recommendations please!?

I just ordered Letter Never Sent on amazon from Criterion so hoping that is good.

I also really liked "The Way Back" last year.

Any other recommendations?

Although i'm not crazy about it, a lot of people love INTO THE WILD.

I'm still waiting for Never Cry Wolf to come out on Blu-ray though.

The Edge with Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins is really good.

I agree with "the Edge". I watched it about a month ago on Blu-ray and it was absolutely stunning looking film and much better movie overall than I remember.

I would also recommend "The Grey" when it arrives on Blu-ray. It maybe more of rental though as it will be awhile before I personally revisit it as it is a kinda a gut punch of a movie. Definately worth seeing once though.

The Edge is a great film

I tend to class survival movies to disaster movies to be honest

Thanks, keep em' coming. Yeah I seen the edge long ago .... need to check that out again.

Looking for some good wilderness or hunted survival type movies.

Shoot To Kill (only on DVD though). :(

Who doesn't love Tom Berenger or Kirstie Alley when they were thin? :hilarious:

Wreck: I enjoyed The Canyon w/Eion Bailey. A desert-y version of Frozen but came out a year before. It's more raw and unpredictable. Very low budget.

Eye See You w/Stallone was pretty decent even though direct to vid.

From the 70's Of course, The Long Weekend is one of my faves!
:movie:

Thanks for teh recommendations everyone. Gonna check out that Canyon for sure ... and its time I own The Edge so will probably buy that here soon.

Looking for some good wilderness or hunted survival type movies.

- Jeremiah Johnson (1972): Starring Robert Redford is one of my favorite survivalist movies right behind First Blood & Road Warrior. A classic mountain man tale of those that actually tamed the west.

Of course you know the most common ones, ie...Castaway, Red Dawn, I am Legend & all the other Zombie apocalypse movies, but I'll list a few that maybe you should re-watch or haven't seen that are more along the lines I think you're looking for....

- The Hunted (2003): Tommy Lee Jones, Benicio Del Toro
- Behind Enemy Lines (2001): Owen Wilson, Gene Hackman
- Surviving the Game (1994): Gary Busey, Rutger Hauer
- No Escape (1994): Ray Liotta
- Alive (1993): Ethan Hawke
- Lord of the Flies (1990):

& a couple classics for good measure:

- The Flight of the Phoenix (1965): The original was so much better than that recent release.
- Northwest Passage (1940): Spencer Tracy, Robert Young and Walter Brennan. Yes I know this is really old, but just look at that all star cast! It's an absolute classic about Rodgers Rangers who were the first "Special Forces" unit used in the French & Indian war. The constitution of people back then simply amazes me, It shows you what it took to cover vast distances. As good as this movie is, the book is even better.

Hope there's something here of interest.

Oh, I almost forgot....For the best survival story: read "Last of the Breed" by Louis L'amour. Although he normally writes westerns, this story is of a downed Air Force Pilot in Russia that must traverse Siberia & follow his ancestors trail across the Bering Strait & escape to USA.
