Something to do with a recent trip by Disney to Blufans maybe !? Disney/Marvel micro managing ? Looking forward to the artwork as regards the lenti's ? Maybe we should find a ship, drop anchor in international waters, and start turning out our own steelbook's with art chosen by Ninjas !
I'm there! Save me a seat on the ship. ;)

I understand the back is genuine artwork so this is not a gripe with blufans... but the back makes little sense without the match being lit? The joke being how clueless and potentially damaging baby groot is, implying a catastrophic event but without the match being lit, it makes little sense to me:confused:

The back art is actually poster artwork which was used in Japan. Perhaps it would look better if the spine was neutral and didn't match the front fully.
Maybe the reason this art was changed in Japan has something to do with "atomic bomb's" and baby groot pressing the button !? That's fine for Japan, but what about the rest of us ? Blufans abit too close to Japan maybe, who knows ? Disney is very sensitive about these thing's ! Still think its a shame blufans were forced to use this art !?

Now I don't understand all this "I don't remember that happening in the film" talk about the back image for the steel. Personally I don't remember the "strike a pose" event from the front image being in the film either but no one has said anything about that.
Both images are promotional art used for the movie by the studio, not sure what else there is to say. :dunno:

Well the front is just on all the characters,. and they were all in the film, in space, clearly reflecting the movie.
Groot with a match and a ton of dynamite however, was never in the movie nor was it ever reflected in the movie or has any place in the movie either for that matter. So the backside makes no sense at all, except for Groot not being so smart, which they could have illustrated much better.

I think the key difference, is the front cover is obviously an abstraction. A stylised conglomerate of key parts of the film to quickly summarise the film.

The back artwork however, looks like a still. It's basically just depicting an action. And not only is not depicting an action like striking a pose or firing a gun, it's depicting a very specific event. Groot standing atop dynamite with a match? Although we understand it's significance, the event isn't as standard as holding a sword, when we see the poster, it almost demands context.

Although I see where you're coming from, and my biggest critique with the back certainly isn't it's absence from the film, I can't help but feel it's a little odd.
