Response from ES about the finish they are going for on this release:
There’s an emboss on the title treatment, gloss varnish on the front, cutting out the characters and a dull varnish covering the back.

The red text and red image on the back is also a pantone red, which should be a bright pillar box red.

media markt holland will probably carry it aswel for 10 gbp less.
haha, I hope they do because they did with jack reacher (it was 12 less than entertainment store)

Haha, that would be so fun :D.

Yes but this will have the all important English j card that makes it that bit sweeter

I have to completely disagree there Bob. ES have stepped up and are doing Uk exclusives with low runs. At a premium yes but that's how it goes. I'm not into selling steelbooks but a lot of people are paying well over the odds on you know where at the moment for the JR SteelS, damaged ones too. So the initial price is worth it considering the run. I wouldn't mind betting ES do start doing their own runs of 4k but I would also bet the price to drop a bit. I'm happy with the price of this and so are almost 1000 other people in less than 10 hours today. That's saying something, I really wish ES do well the uk steel market needs more of this kind of thing, and I'm happy also not to be giving my money to the big players all time.

I agree I love that a small company is knocking out small runs in the UK.

Hope all the exclusives they do are 1000 and under :)

No 3D Disc, no purchase for me, why oh why do the UK keep shafting us by not including the 3D disc, MM Exclusive all the way.

I still find 3D for the home a bit gimmicky imo and always prefer a decent 2D version. Each to their own I suppose :movie: Looking forward to this, and always happy to support a new up and coming company

3D is a love hate thing, there is no more a traditionalist than me but i love 3D and think it should be included in all 3D movies that are released as Steelbooks which i consider the premium product, i totally agree with supporting new and upcoming companies but as i only buy one copy of a Steel and open to watch i go where the 3D disc is included. ;)

Try watching Life of Pi or the Hobbit in 3D and you might change your mind. ;) Those movies were designed to be seen in 3D, and anything less just isn't the full experience.

Hansel & Gretel was only partially shot in native 3D though (the other half being a post-prod conversion), so I'm guessing the 3D in it is probably less effective. For the money though buyers should still be given the option IMO.

oh FFS ive missed it, im not a happy bunny it said it was in stock when i went to pay it had none of it and now its OOS

I think it's more simple economics here. The less you have made of something, the more you have to pay for it. If Luke had ordered a run of 4k it would almost certainly have brought the retail price of this below £20. But the company probably can't afford the outlay even though price per unit would be cheaper. Especially when he might end up sitting on unsold stock.

This is actually a proven and effective business model: Pay more per copy but charge more and make sure you sell every last copy. It's a good way to thrive as long as customers will pay the higher prices. Seems to be working so far...

I agree with what you are saying. I just would like to see it applied to a more appealing movie selection.

£26.99

Don't care how limited it is, they are taking the piss.

Good profit margin for them

I wonder how much he buys them for? £7/£8 a unit?

I've been thinking a bit about this as there have been so many comments on the pricing of these more limited releases

I seriously doubt it's that low per unit. The standard Blu-ray isn't exactly cheap at many places either

You could probably double that buy price for the film alone imo. Chuck on the price of the steelbook, logistics, postage and you could see the overall cost adds up quite fast

And I assume Luke doesn't work for free either!

I don't think they are taking the piss. I reckon they are working to a pretty bog standard margin to maintain a business without going into administration like half the other businesses in this country. Fair play to them too if you ask me

And it would seem they have just sold through 1,000 units in less than a day which is very good going. Plenty seem prepared to pay that price

I can't believe that has sold out already, it only went on sale this morning EEK!

i am not impressed its like iron man all over again apart from no super heroes haha :(:(

Something tells me you're not going to be the only UK member to be shocked at missing out on this. I reckon quite a few still don't know this title was even available!

Very unlucky with the timing there sproutyrouty, hope you get a copy sorted somehow
