SCEE reveals Heavy Rain: Collector's Edition

The folks over on the official European PlayStation Blog have lifted the lid on a swanky Collector’s Edition release of Quantic Dream’s forthcoming PS3 thriller Heavy Rain.

Seen below, the CE comes packaged in a specialised ‘rain-effect’ slipcase, which, thanks to some snazzy manufacturing tricks among others, looks as if it’s coated in 3D raindrops.

The meat of the package, however, comes in the form of a Voucher allowing consumers to download additional content for the game via PlayStation Network. See below for a description.

-Heavy Rain: Chronicle 1 – The Taxidermist – Experience Madison’s dangerous investigation in full, before it’s available on the PlayStation Store.

-The Heavy Rain Official Soundtrack – Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios, and filled with the powerful orchestral themes that form a key part of the experience of playing Heavy Rain.

-Dynamic XMB theme – Lend a little Heavy Rain ambience to your XMB.

Those of you who don’t fancy shelling out for the Collector’s Edition will still be able to get your hands on the DLC shortly after the release of Heavy Rain in early 2010. Stay tuned for more info on the game as it breaks.

makes you wonder, when is there going to be a adult only video game?..

makes me wonder what an adult only game would be like

We already see nudity in titles rated M for Mature, here is Heavy Rain with a stripper scene in it where you control her movements and it's rated M for Mature.

how hardcore do you have to be to get Adult Only?

i feel like the ratings system has gotten more and more lax over the years.

PG-13 movies are much more risque, violent, and have more "bad language" than they did when i was younger.

maybe the same thing is happening with video games. :dunno:

Hi everyone! I’m Jefferson Dong, the SCEA Marketing Manager for Heavy Rain, and I have some great news for those of you anxiously awaiting the release of Heavy Rain. Get ready to place your pre-orders for this PS3 exclusive title because we’ve got something special for you. When you pre-order your copy of Heavy Rain at participating retailers, you will receive the first episode of The Heavy Rain Chronicles (valued at $4.99 each episode) titled, “Heavy Rain: Chronicle One – The Taxidermist,” which will be available (only to those who pre-order) when Heavy Rain hits store shelves. The Heavy Rain pre-order program begins TODAY!

What exactly are The Heavy Rain Chronicles? Each Chronicle will offer unique, stand-alone, playable short stories featuring one of Heavy Rain’s main characters, and a storyline taking place either before or after Heavy Rain’s original narrative. Similar to Heavy Rain, each episode will offer a unique journey and different outcomes based on the players’ decisions and actions.

Heavy Rain: Chronicle One – The Taxidermist will feature investigative journalist Madison Paige in one of her first cases tracking down a serial killer. Most of you are familiar with this episode as it is an expansion and update to the original “Taxidermist” demo that received such positive response when shown last year.

No CE for US

Looks like Americans hoping to get their hands on the nice-looking Heavy Rain Collector’s Edition will have to import it.

“We will not be carrying this in the US,” a SCEA rep confirmed to VG247 today.

Bummer.

Earlier, SCEE said that the game’s Collector’s Edition will be an exclusive to HMV in the UK and priced at £40.

The site also listed the release date as February 26 (as did CVG), but Sony has failed to confirm the release, stating instead to “expect a date in the next few weeks”.

Heavy Rain dated for NA and Europe

Sony has finally staple-gunned a European release date to PS3 thriller Heavy Rain, confirming the game will be released in the territory on February 24. UK gamers, meanwhile, can get their mitts on it from February 26.

In addition, it appears that Qore weren’t exactly spot on with their U.S. release date of February 16 – Sony America has today clarified that the Quantic Dream offering will instead hit North America on February 23.

As mentioned previously, UK gamers will be able to bag themselves a swanky Collector’s Edition of the game, available exclusively through retail giant HMV.

[UPDATE] Qore: Heavy Rain out in U.S. on Feb 16

UPDATE:

According to VG247, a European release date will likely be announced at some point today.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

According to Examiner, the latest issue of interactive PlayStation mag Qore has confirmed that hotly anticipated thriller Heavy Rain will be hitting store shelves across the U.S. on February 16.

A European release date has yet to be revealed, though website CVG recently said it expects the game out in PAL territories on February 26. However, Europeans will be getting the Collector’s Edition as an exclusive release – Sony said this week it won’t be making the jump across the pond, sadly.

In the meantime, be sure to direct your browsers to the new Heavy Rain trailer here. Stay tuned for coverage on the game in the coming weeks.

Thanks, VG247

Heavy Rain was sharing space with God of War III at CES 2010 and both games looked really good graphically. One Sony representative instructing the demo for Heavy Rain gave a pretty bold statement that challenges Uncharted 2 for best looking game of all time.

Another reporter and I were talking to the representative about how he would categorize Heavy Rain since it appeared to be a more passive experience. When Uncharted 2’s action oriented gameplay and graphics came up, the representative said, “Graphically, it [Heavy Rain] blows Uncharted 2 away.”

If you don’t believe me take a look at the video below. Around the 11 second mark you’ll hear the Sony rep handing over Uncharted 2’s graphics title to Heavy Rain.

Is he right? Has Heavy Rain toppled Uncharted 2 in the graphics department? We’ll know when it releases February 23, 2010.

Interview with David Cage (creator)

Here are some highlights. Its a translated interview, so i can't copy and paste it here without it going into all spanish/portugese or whatever language its originally in.
The main features are:
- There are 1020 different ends in the game
- We can play with a main character and we decide who will remain as is
- the origami could be a puzzle/enigma of the story or not to be
- the DLC will reach the main story and other ones will introduce new characters and stories
- There is a mission (by a DLC) where you play a blind man and you cannot see anything. Only the surround sound can help you to play the game
- Team ICE (Naughty Dog) have not supported the Quantic Dream
- Demo will be online very soon, before the game going to the market
- Heavy Rain is destined to be a trilogy, as a pragmatic version of The Lord of the Rings.

Introducing the Official Heavy Rain Box Art

Some of you surfing around yesterday might have stumbled upon what might be the US packfront. We just wanted to drop a note to everyone confirming that the below, is indeed, the US packfront for Heavy Rain:

We’re also able to confirm Heavy Rain’s final ESRB rating has come in at a strong M for Blood, Intense Violence, Nudity, Sexual Content, Strong Language and Use of Drugs. And for those of you who have asked, the content is exactly the same as what’s being released in all our territories, so you’ll get to enjoy it exactly as Quantic Dream intended.

We’ll have much more in the coming days as we get closer to launch, so keep an eye out on the Blog for more information on one of PlayStation’s hottest titles of 2010!

Sony responds to US Box hate

Yesterday, Sony revealed the US box art for Heavy Rain, and compared to the European package, it was awful. Fortunately, enough people thought so for Sony to take notice, and SCEA has responded to the hate with a compromise. It will offer up a printable version of the UK box so that fans can use that one instead.

"We’ll be doing that for those that would prefer the UK artwork. Keep an eye out on the blog around launch," confirms associate product manager Christian Cardona.

It's actually pretty cool that Sony would respond to fan reaction like that, even if the offer of a printable cover is a mere gesture. Seriously though, SCEA needs to start using European box art for its games, because this has happened before. Need I remind anybody of the ICO debacle?

Printable... meaning that I can take it to kinkos and get denied service because they'll claim that I infringed on a copyright?

I'm not complaining, I'm glad we get SOMETHING... but it seems like they'd just release both, if they already have the covers printed from EU.

Heavy Rain content the same across all territories, expect a 'strong M' rating

Sony has confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that Heavy Rain will carry a strong M rating. The ESRB rating is for Blood, Intense Violence, Nudity, Sexual Content, Strong Language and Use of Drugs. Sony also confirmed that the box art, posted earlier today, is in fact the official front cover.

There has been some discussion about whether or not the North American release will feature the same content as other territories, or if it will be censored in any way. Well, Sony confirmed that the North American content will be exactly the same as what’s being released in other territories. That means we will get to see everything Quantic Dream created in this epic looking story and game. February 23 can’t come soon enough.

ESRB describes sexual content

The Entertainment Software Rating's Board have summarized their reasoning for giving the upcoming PlayStation 3 Exclusive Heavy Rain a Mature rating. The biggest factor towards this rating, is most likely the nudity and sexual content in the game, in which the ESRB have described;

The game contains sexual content and nudity. Shower cutscenes may depict a male character's bare butt; if players control the female character, her breasts and buttocks are also briefly visible. A more prolonged instance of nudity occurs during a female character's investigation of a seedy club owner: After getting him alone in a room, the player-character is asked to strip; at gunpoint, she dances topless in front of the man. The game also contains a prompt-based love scene (kissing and rubbing) in which players match on-screen cues to angle characters' mouths, remove shirts and blouses, unhook bras, and lower to the floor; a woman briefly appears topless amidst the dark shadows and heavy breathing—actual sex is never depicted as the camera fades to black.

So breasts and buttocks flying around your screen. Not surprising, as creator David Cage want's to create as genuine experience as possible in this title. We saw the game in October last year, and it was something we had never experienced whilst seeing a game.

Heavy Rain is due out for PlayStation 3 at the end of February.
