I'm looking forward to getting this
My most wanted release of the year by a huge margin

I have purchased a lot of releases this year from all over the world but Hellraiser is the one release I could not do without

If I was only allowed 1 release out off all releases this year it would be this box set

If you not already ordered I would while you can
This will be sold out soon with all retailers

I'm looking forward to the 200 page hardback book

The design of the box set is very well done

Hurry up 26th Oct I want this now

Me too! :D
I'll be honest, I felt a bit hard done by paying £50 for it, so after cancelling my Zavvi order, and getting this for £38… I'm really hyped! Seems a much more realistic price to me, even though I'm sure it was worth more. Hyped for it!

I missed out on this amazon deal, zavvi is no option with their crappy shipping so I paid 53,99 GBP direct @ arrow and I probably will not regret one single pence :smug:

First online review : http://www.homecinemachoice.com/news/article/hellraiser-the-scarlet-box-review/22451
Picture: All three films have been restored at 2K from 35mm interpositive elements by Arrow (with the first two signed-off by director of photography Robin Vidgeon) and the results are very impressive.

Compared to Starz's original 2009 platter, Arrow's 1.85:1-framed 1080p encode of Hellraiser has a much more organic appearance, with far more native film grain present. Contrast and clarity also take a major step forwards in quality, helping resolve additional fine detail. Shot the following year with many of the same crew, it's hardly surprising that the 1.85:1 encode of Hellbound: Hellraiser II looks very similar.

The decision to aim for a bigger audience with Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth results in a significant aesthetic change, with cinematographer Gerry Lively giving the film a far glossier appearance. Once again, Arrow's 1.85:1 restoration captures the new look well, with a refined grain structure and excellent shadow detail. The clarity and sharpness of the image also aids the many split-diopter shots used to give the image deeper focus.

That said, there are a couple of insurmountable issues when it comes to the film’s visuals. The first is the fairly early use of CG ‘morphing’ effects, with shots containing these seeing a drop-off in clarity and resolution. The other is the huge drop in quality (and change to 1.33:1 framing) that occurs when watching the additional scenes during the 'alternate unrated version' of the film that is also included on the disc. This is because the original 35mm elements for these sequences couldn't be found, meaning that a pan-and-scan LaserDisc was the best available video master...

Picture rating: 4.5/5

For years, many fans questioned the existence of the scene even completely but it was actually filmed and found itself on an old VHS video again. Arrow has restored this and will attach to the second part. ( I don´t have seen the extended scenes , so I´m very excited :wow::D

From Doug Bradley on the surgeon's cenobite scene :
tumblr_mw0erpkxd11r3rloeo1_500.png

OK, folks. Here we go again. The dreaded Surgeon's scene from Hellbound and the question I've been asked a gazillion times: 'What was it that Pinhead did in the scene where he was dressed as a surgeon that was so terrible they couldn't even put it in the unrated version?' And the answer, once again: 'Nothing'.
Let's go back to the prime source: the script. The gag as Pete Atkins wrote it was as follows:
As Kirsty and Tiffany are running around the corridors of the Channard Institute, two 'gowned and masked figures' emerge from a room. One asks (I'm paraphrasing from memory) 'What are you girls doing here? You know you're not allowed in this part of the hospital'. As he speaks, his mask fills with blood, pins burst through the cloth and his voice transforms into the familiar tones of Pinhead. He and the Female pull their masks from their faces to reveal themselves, Kirsty and Tiffany turn and run.
Simple to write, not so simple to film, requiring a number of different set-up/FX shots to make it work.
On the day, Barbie and I were wheeled out and given surgeon's gowns and masks to wear. Now, a surgeon's mask covers no more than your mouth and nose. Attempting to wear it over my pins was ludicrous, and given that all the rest of my face and head were visible, not doing a great job of concealment. I certainly remember pointing this out, and the main response I recall was puzzlement. If we were now filming the final shot in the sequence, I wanted to know what exactly would have preceeded it. I don't recall being given an answer. We stood around for a while and then we were sent back to our hutch.
I've always said it's possible they turned the camera on something - nothing more than the pair of us staring into middle distance, I suspect - and it's possible they had a stab at the FX shots, though I've never heard any mention of it. I look forward to seeing the long-lost footage.
New World, in their infinite wisdom, put the image on the cover of the unrated version, and a legend was born.
You'd be surprised how often this kind of thing happens: visual gags not fully thought through. In the same film, you'll recall that Pinhead/Elliott has his throat slit by Dr Channard in his Cenobite form. Geoff had prepared a prosthetic to attach to my neck which, complete with blood pump, would sell the gag. I was always puzzled as to how anyone expected this to work, though, and asked as much when we got on set. It was evident that it had occurred to nobody that Pinhead's costume has a high leather collar that would protect his throat and, in practical terms, cover the prosthesis and make the gag unworkable. The solution? Find a pair of sturdy scissors and cut the collar off the costume. So if you watch carefully in that scene, you'll notice that as Pinhead turns to face Channard, his collar has suddenly disappeared. The extraordinary thing is that almost nobody spots it.

Peace and Pain
