Still on the fence on whether or not to get this. Loved this film but not a fan of the German text on the artwork, do we think there will be another steelbook release or a premium one sometime soon?

II must be the only the only person that didn't rate this film. I sat through it waiting for it to get good but then it ended. It was the same with The Witch, another film people loved.

Maybe I've just seen too many horror movies that I am now desensitised to it.

I don't think it has much to do with being desensitised to the scariness but rather the way in which those movies take their sweet time to create a dreadful atmosphere, which tends to appeal to art-house horror fans.
I also never get scared by horror movies, but I love those two movies nontheless.

Therefore, I would also be all over a premium release!

That's fair enough, and I'm not belittling anyone for liking what they like. I appreciated the way that this was shot and the things they tried to achieve in the film but it fell flat with me. Same with the Witch.

I do hope they do a premium of this though as I'd love to see more horror movies get a premium treatment.

I'm in the same boat. It has nothing to do with being desensitized (I've seen a shitton of horror movies too) and I'd even argue The Witch and Hereditary appeal less to people who haven't seen many horror films, expecting the typical haunted house jump scare variety and being sorely disappointed. A quick look at the discrepancy between critics reviews and audience scores of both films corroborates this. I wasn't waiting for the film to "get going" since for me, I was already immersed into the slow-burn, tension building throughout.

The NY Times did an article ("Home Is Where the Horror Is") on the emergence of more arthouse, character driven horror films veering towards drama that we've seen as of late, predicated on adult fears, atmosphere building, and dread.

The usual garden variety ghosts/demons/torture porn/slashers don't really resonate with me after I leave the theater. These two films did however. Hereditary haunted me for days even.

Different strokes for different folks.

Still no news on another release for this has me worried we won't be seeing one for awhile. Hoping Zavvi pull through.

I just saw it yeaterday and loved it. This is the kind of slow-burn horror we get very few of but thankfully that seams to be shifting. Its not gonna please the jump scares fans as its more in the vain of classic horror fares. Besides the obvious comparisons like Rosemarys Baby and even The Exorcist to some extent i actually think this owes more to The Shinning than anything else.

I don't go into horror movies looking for jump scares so I'm fine with character driven, slow burning movies. I adore Twin Peaks season 3 and you can't really get more slow burn than that.

This film was just boring for me. I found myself looking at my watch a few times which I never do in a cinema. I didn't care for any of the characters in the film, the main kid was a terrible actor and the film had so many continuity errors it took me out of it. It was wholy predictable and was a rip of many other horror movies.

If you liked it, then fine. I have no problem with that. I just couldn't get on with it so this is an easy pass for me.
