Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

Rare Steelbooks

I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this topic has been discussed and I'm sure it has. Anyway, I am kind of new at collecting steelbooks and didn't realize how much some of the more rare ones were worth.

I own three so far but have plenty more that I have ordered. I have the Iron Man Future Shop Exclusive along with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal skull and Inglorious Basterds which are also from Future Shop.

I had someone offer me $50 for the Iron Man and I thought it was a good price until I did some research and found out that sometime in June, it sold on eBay for $232.00! So of course I passed on the $50 and put it up on eBay myself and the auction is already at $100 with 4 days remaining.

Anyway, I am glad to be a part of this forum and would love to hear more about which steelbooks are a must-have.

Welcome to the forum SteelToSteel - I've moved your post to here - feel free to read up on some standard questions new members have.

Disney Steelbooks

I just came back from my local Future Shop and they had two titles on the shelf: Alice in Wonderland and Princess and the Frog. I saw Princess on ebay selling for $80. Is it worth buying as a collector's item and how much is it valued at?

Thanks for posting SteelToSteel - I've moved your thread to here.

Well, first off those aren't steelbooks - they are ironpacks. Ironpacks are valued less to many collectors than steelbooks.

Is it going to appreciate more than that? Probably not. Can you get $80 now? Probably only if you're willing to ship internationally.

It's all subjective anyway, so if you want the release bad enough, I say buy it, but don't get it because you think it will be worth something down the road.

Approaching steelbooks or limited editions as investment is just a bad idea, IMO.

I think we just need to add Scarface and or Battle LA if not on there ... ( i havent checked, but other than that its up to date)

I was wondering where my posts went lol I really wasn't trying to advertise my eBay listing because once the 1st bid came in, it's pretty much sold. I'm sorry if it came off that way. And if I intended on advertising it, I would have provided a link haha.

If you're looking to make a profit from a rare Steelbook on eBay, the customers willing to bid high are mostly from overseas countries.

not directed at you, but if people want to post ebay links in their trade threads ... we dont mind. Though members may mind or not, depending on prices ;p - I know some forums forbid the postings of ebay links. we dont.

now, directed at you ... :welcome: to the forums.

Thanks, Wreck! If I were post a link it wouldn't be mine unless the auction was over. I never really thought the Iron Man FS would receive so many bids. But that was b4 I found out how rare it is.

Not in reference to your situation, just my experience - but that's where I've seen the most problems - proving delivery of a steelbook in another country. :ohno:

I guess that would be a problem. Only thing would be to have a tracking number and insuring it.

Even then - insurance only works if the buyer is willing to work with you, and a tracking number is only as good as it is being scanned by the other country.

Not worth it, IMO, for the big ticket items.

Yes, unfortunately, any seller in another country can say they didn't receive it, and with Ebay's policies favoring the customer, and not the seller, they'll be refunded. If it's a high value item, in particular, it's advisable to use a ship method with tracking (and small "flat rate boxes often do not fit Steelbooks with adequate padding), and also often do not offer full tracking. To avoid well known scams, just do all you can to protect yourself-the burden of proof for Ebay is now with the seller. Good luck!:)

Yeah, I used to have an eBay store selling watches and the buyers were protected more and I received unfair feedback so I stopped selling.
