Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

There were 3 films released like this: Wanted, which had previously been a debossed Media Markt G2 Blu-ray only; Death Race, which had previously been a debossed Media Markt G2 Blu-ray also and King Kong, (2005 version) which had not been released on Blu-ray. All three were re-released in G1 format with Blu-ray& DVD included and a bold blue label saying so as part of the FSK logo. The label was also peelable.

Amazon comes through again!

I want to use this thread to share one unbelievable experience I have with Amazon's packaging and shipping procedures and policies. I have documented elsewhere Amazon.JP's outstanding shipping process but could not see the shipping tracking record. Well, today I received a Christmas item from Amazon.FR that I ordered on Dec.10. I had hoped for delivery something before Christmas with the "Fast" shipping option of 10-12 days. They shipped this item together with a couple of steelbooks on Monday Dec.12 and guess which one arrived first? Yup, that special item and here is the shipping tracking record to prove it. All at the same cost as the steelbooks (6.40EUR) but according to the tracking, the steelbooks are still in Croydon. AMAZING AMAZON! Thank you! I cannot sing your praises enough. If you come through with those Japanese steels like this guy here, I am buying Amazon stock with my entire retirement fund.

And yes, the item is in superb condition due to the wonderful new packaging Amazon has employed!

Can someone please point me in the right direction of ordering steels from overseas? Im new to Steels but im obsessed now. Please help

Leon, you can order Steelbooks from a variety of sources. The easiest are probably the Amazon international sites. We also have a 'Retailer' list in the Trade Forum, but you need 30+ posts to access. Please post any general questions here, and I am sure someone will reach out and help you. Also PM'ed.

Welcome to the site! :scat:

Is there really only going to be 2 Planet of the Apes steelbooks? Anyone else surprised by this? I'm hoping another pops out of nowhere.

I'm not keen on either edition, but I have to own this awesome movie in steel ... might end up settling for French then.

I agree. I've been waiting for Rise of the Planet of the Apes to surface somewhere else like FS but it didn't happen. I'm probably going to do the same and break down and buy the French version too. I have not seen this movie so that's why I haven't moved earlier on this. I hope it's a good movie. ;)

Finland got one too, but isn't it the same as the UK one?

I though this might be interesting as some members custom make their SBs

THE WALKING DEAD Blu-ray CUSTOM MADE STEELBOOK! case only

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WALKING-DEAD-Blu-ray-CUSTOM-MADE-STEELBOOK-case-only-/230719231758?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_DVDs_DVDs_GL&hash=item35b7f0170e

I have begun making custom steelbooks/stickerbooks for Blu-ray TV Shows and am offering them for sale. What you will receive is an actual blank STEELBOOK that I have spray painted satin black and attached printed vinyl stickers to the case, as well as internal artwork. I will most probably be creating and selling the steelbooks for favourite tv shows including FRINGE, SMALLVILLE, CHUCK, STAR TREK, LOST, VAMPIRE DIARIES and many more! This item is for The Walking Dead complete first season and includes disc hubs for 2 Blu-ray discs. The actual steelbook is G1 (dvd sized) as you cannot currently purchase G2 (blu-ray) sized blank cases.

As a collector, and believe me when I say I have a lot of Steel, I'm glad the re-releases are different. I picked up the Sucker Punch re-release and you can easily distinguish it from the original. What really gets my goat is when ones that are "on the list" get re-released and you cannot tell them apart from the original, a classic case in point being Underworld Trilogy which only differs by the shrinkwrap they used and one version having a pull strip in the wrap whereas the other didn't. As a result the original which was highly prized lost virtually all its value.

A lot ..... Understatement :hilarious:

If you had to chose between the 'Kampf Der Titanen-Clash of the Titans Crackle Ed' and the Clash of the Titans FS edition which would you get? I'm just trying to get a feel for which one I want. I'm not real sure so maybe you guys can help. ... :)

I don't know if this is the correct thread to post this in but it is the lounge.

For those that are true die hard Firefox fans and looking at prices for SB's I went searching for an add-on for Firefox that places the converted currency to whatever your home currency is 'in-line' on the webpage next to the foreign currency. As you can see from the picture The Dark Knight [JP] Yen and right to the left of it the converted currency. LINK to add-on.

If you get '???' next to the foreign currency just go to the Convert my Currency options and click on each foreign currency and change the search parameter from Google to WebServiceX. Also it auto updates the foreign currencies every 8 hours. It does this on any webpage that it has a foreign currency on. It's very handy as now I don't have to keep going to www.xe.com everytime I want a conversion.
Also it has the option to change your home currency so it's good for anyone in any country.

I just wanted to share my knowledge with the community.

Cheers...
