Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

I ordered 4-6 from Amazon.ca and although they all showed up stacked in a box, only the top one showed any damage. There was a cut in the front middle of the steel that was obviously there when the box was closed. They replaced it and told me to keep the damaged one.

You are right, there are a lot of Canadian steels right now that are sweet. You could order them one at a time.

How about Amazon.it? Anyone ever order from them? How is there packaging?

Thanks guys. That's what I was afraid of.....maybe I'll try a group of 4-5 to see if they pack in a larger box......

Yes they only ship in a thin cardboard envelope. At least they are customer friendly. The last time i received a damaged copy from them they told me to keep the damaged one and shipped an replacement the same day i wrote them for free.

Heyup guys, guess this is the right place for this, if not just ignore and delete me :)

About my last couple of steels being held at customs for me to pay import duty from USA. I still don't quite understand how they are working this out as I have never had to pay duty on any items I have had delivered from USA or Canada. But now all of a sudden they have decided to sting me this time so what turned out to be a good deal is not so much :hilarious:

Just wondering have they got me on record now? Is it just pot luck if you get hit with it? Or am I done for every time from now on? As you can tell I no pritty much nothing as not had to deal with it untill now. Thanks to anyone in advance! :scat:

I am not sure about having you on record (I am in the US, so I don't want to speculate), but I thought there was a pretty low value limit on packages to the US. I believe someone also mentioned that they were paying particular attention to packages coming from US to UK. Maybe they're catching on to some of the 'drop shipping' we've been doing for each other...LOL. :hilarious: Perhaps someone from UK can chime in, with more experience.

Well guess who's gonna chime in DB ? Awkward, in case you weren't aware, HMRC dropped the value for exemption from £18 to £15 re VAT that includes shipping as well so it means we get clobbered quite hard in the UK. Also the reason they were looking at packages for value between US and UK was so they can maximise revenue pure and simple. Anything over £45 and it'll get hit over the "Holiday" season after that they are usually not quite so harsh. I had 3 packages from DB and got hit on every single one as it has to go from a named individual to another named individual from the £45 "rule" to apply and it didn't in these cases. Check on hmrc website for detailed explanation.

Hi,

dont know whats going on in the USA now , but I posted a steel there the other day and because it was over 600 Grams I had to pay and extra $9 EEK!

Thing is , that on my Aus Post Calculator it didnt factor in this extra $9 charge , so I was $9 out of poket for a steel only worth $20

Any Americano's know any thing about this extra charge ??

Aparantly its because of the extra X-Ray equpitment being use on the fight agains Terrorism

Wow, that's awesome Buffalo! Thanks for posting. I moved your thread over here since it was shipping/retailer related.

Chip, you can use Google Translate or another tool, to translate the sites. Basically you click 'Help' at the top right, as you do for Amazon US. Then they ask you what order your inquiry relates to, and you choose the order. You can then choose 'Write to us in English'. Sometimes they'll send a replacement, other times they expect you to return it at your own cost, and then tell them how much you paid. It's kind of a hassle if they don't just replace it, but I guess there has been so many damaged orders, they can't always send replacements. Good luck!

For amazon.de, go here. You're going to have to click on 'kontaktieren sien uns'. Log in, and then you should get the option to contact them in English in the drop down.

For amazon.fr, go here. You're going to have to click on 'Contactez-nous'. Same thing as DE, log in and in the drop down you will get the option to contact them in English.

Before you start writing them, either have your order number ready, or click 'choose an order number' or 'select an older order'. I'm assuming your using Chrome, so that should translate.

Hey Top-I've not heard of the specific $9 charge before. Any online source that states that it is to pay for x-ray equipment? Just something that may come in handy because members may ask again. The US Postal Service has taken extra precautions because of the constant threats. But this is the first I've heard about this charge. Any more info? Sorry to hear about the extra trouble:(

Chip just to let you know my most recent orders from Amazon.fr and Amazon.de had one damaged steelbook in each order. Both are getting replaced for free and I got to keep the damaged ones. Hopefully you have the same results.
