Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

I am going to have to completely agree with you on that point.

Although I do believe that there are still a few OCD Completists out there, I think the days of "getting them all" are a thing of the past as there are just too many releases coming to even try to get them all. Back when I was doing it, the numbers were bad enough, but still quite manageble. Now, well just look at the release list for the next two and a half months and you will get the picture of where the BD Steelbook has gone.

Cheers

You are right about that Crash, it is out of control :star wars:

Thanks guys. Still finding my way around, but really like the site and plan on sticking around and contributing ;). Already got help from a member here on a title I was desperately looking for :scat:.

It was a valiant effort while it lasted my friend. I think that while the logistics may have gotten a little better in terms of getting titles from remote places, the sheer number of releases per country would require a ton of money and space for that matter. But I'm sure someone out there has some sort of vault where they are storing every single release that's there.

General Steelbook Retailer Discussion Thread

Since many of us order Steels on a regular basis, I thought I'd add a thread so you can share your experience about various retailers. Feel free to add comments about packaging, refund experiences, etc.

Enjoy & thanks in advance for contributing to the HDN community!:)

Feel free to add comments about packaging, ship time (right now there is awful weather in Europe, impacting shipping so keep this in mind), refund experiences, etc.

While their packaging leaves something to be desired, I'd have to recommend amazon.de to anyone - they are all friendly customer reps and are willing to fix problems very quickly. Not many places are willing to ship replacements to the order without asking for an insurance claim first, or other red tape.

Andy, your dog, LOL, so cute! Haha! Yes, I agree, I wish they would ship in boxes with more padding, but their service has been outstanding over the years. I've ordered many items from them, and on the occasion where there has been a problem they've always rectified it quickly.

I'm curious... How do you talk to or write to international amazon sites? I will be getting my first Amazon.de order soon and was wondering if I had any issues, do I just write to them in English? Just curious how all this works if a CSR contacts me, will it be in German like all their updates? The only reason I can order is because they've pretty much kept the same ordering template on all their sites. Otherwise, I wouldn't dare.

Hi Sirat-if you contact them via the "Help" feature, you can choose "Write to us in English" from the drop down menu. You can also use Translate for Google for Chrome, or other browsers and it will translate text for you. You can also use translate.google.com to translate small amounts of text if you need to. Though I speak German, either of these options has worked well for me for any other international site I've used (many, over the years). Feel free to post other retailer questions here and someone may be able to help. Good luck and happy holidays! :)

To translate I just right click my mouse on IE and use the bing translator. You can translate large amounts or small amounts on the fly. Works pretty good IMO.

I had a good experience with amazon.ca. Some of the wave 1 and alliance steels I ordered came dinged up. They immediately replaced them for me without any problems. They also packed pretty well.

K2DVD.com has been one of the best to deal with as well for me.

I just received an order of seven Steelsbooks from Amazon.de and am not pleased with the result as six of the seven had dents and/ or dings.

The Steels were packed in a thin cardboard wrapping. Note the term wrapping. This was not a box but rather thin cardboard wrapped around its contents like wrapping paper over a gift.

And the two ends of the wrapping were tucked in and not even taped shut! EEK!

I've filled out my exchange order for the damaged Steels, but two of them (Letters From Iwo Jima and Casino Royale) are now out of stock.

And now I have to pay for postage for the return.

If only Amazon.de would have packed my order in a box with at least a minimal amount of packing/ padding, we both would have saved time and money.

Welcome to the world of steelbook collecting! This has happened to all of us IMO. And it isn't fun. In a lot of cases you can get your steels from site members for very good prices and guranteed quality. Also group buys will help you. Most other retailers are pretty good as well. Good luck.

Amen to that, it is all a part of collecting SteelBooks sadly :(

+1

That's why group buys are preferred by many here.

Yep, my noobiness was full of faith that a retailer would properly package items it sold. :hilarious:

On another note, I ordered two Steels from Amazon.it 19 days ago. Is that par for the course from ordering form them? Their "tracking info" says it was scheduled to be delivered on the 10th.

I'M VERY HAPPY WITH AMAZON DE AS FIRST CHOICE, THEY ARE AWESOME WITH COSTUMER SERVICE AND THE ONE TIME I HAD A DAMAGED STEEL THEY WERE PROMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM, I LIKE THE UK ONE TOO

Amazon.de has already shipped out replacements for four of the busted Steels, which is cool. They asked me to ship them back the broken ones, though, which kind of sucks since I have to pay for shipping.

Amazon.ca just let me keep the broken Steelbook they sent me and then sent out a replacement right away.

Good service by both, but Amazon.ca wins for sure.

Still, crappy packaging doesn't really make up for good service. I mean, if they ship out my replacements the same way they shipped the original order, odds are most of them will be dinged.

And the irony is that I'll actually be in Germany the day they say my replacements will arrive at my home in the US.
