Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

Anyone know if there is still a delivery issue to the US from amazon.fr? I thought there was a separate thread for this, but I can't seem to find it. I ordered an extra X-Men Le Commencement from amazon.fr and didn't choose expedited shipping, so I'm hoping it doesn't get delivered back to amazon like a couple of past experiences. It's been a while since I tried ordering from them so I'm not sure if anything has changed. Thanks in advance.

I know for sure that amazon.de has switched back from DHL global mail.

I'm unsure if amazon.fr has, however. The last GB I did, I had it shipped UPS (expedited).

FYI to folks, since all the SteelBook threads have the country name in it you can search all steels by certain country that way.

Hey guys, has anyone here ordered from CDWOW?

Heard good but also bad word about them so not really sure how are they. I placed my order few days ago and it says my item is on backorder.

Anyone has any experience with them? Good or bad? Thanks

Oh no, now I am completely paranoid about my orders from amazon.fr which are coming on DHLGA. I am a noob in steelbook collecting and I have 4 steels coming...EEK!

How easy is it to make a claim if any of these shipments is damaged?

It's pretty easy to report damaged items to any amazon site. They give you a couple options if the steelbooks arrive damaged. They may offer you a partial refund if you want to keep the items, or they will send replacements and may or may not make you send the damaged copies back. I'm noticing that the amazon sites are packing their steelbook orders better now than ever, so you have a good chance of receiving the steelbooks in good condition. The concern from amazon.fr is if you will actually get the steelbooks. I'm not sure if it's an issue currently, but there was an issue with steelbook orders from amazon.fr using the standard shipping method. Those orders were being returned back to amazon.fr as undeliverable. Let us know if you get your order Ash :D

Amazon.fr

yeah I go with "flash" shipping with amazon.fr, for me in Australia it is 20Euro vs 14Euro for standard and i get it in 4 days:D . There was always that chance you didn't get the Steelbook edition anyway and then the problems with the standard shipping been returned , just seemed less stressful to pay a bit more for faster shipping and avoiding it not even arriving. If you do have to contact them there is an option to contact them in English, so no confussion there, which is great.

Thanks for the assuring and encouraging words darczap. I am feeling a little better but still worried as I am very eager to get my hands on those steelbooks I ordered (primarily the X-Men: First Class one). This is a new hobby for me and everyone here has been extremely helpful and encouraging. I will definitely keep you all posted.

Great advice. I have pre-ordered the Captain America steelbook from Amazon.fr but had selected the "regular" shipping to save some coin. I will check to see if the extra $ is not too overwhelming for a peace of mind.

Ash, I think they ship in a simple cardboard slip box, but I am not sure if they ever ship in box. I've not ordered from them in a few years...

@ash: For the UK their packaging was generally regarded as the best as only has to cover short distances & the little box can survive it easily. However they also use the same box internationally and I don't think it stands up to the stresses & strains so well. The new Amazon packaging, especially that of Amazon.de, is in my opinion substantially better. I have taken the liberty of re-using it for a couple of folks in one of my GB's, with the Steel suitably bubbled, and have every confidence. Going back to HMV box, I, like a lot of UK collectors, re-use box with bubble for a single Steel and haven't had a complaint yet.

Anytime ash! Also just fyi...a site called quidco.com allows you to earn cash back by clicking through to various uk retailer sites. Once you click through you earn a percentage back which is sent to you periodically via paypal. Enjoy!:)

Really? Nice! Maybe I can click through enough sites to pay for those steelbooks I buy from them ;)

:thanks:

Quick question for those of you who keep your steels sealed..... do you leave price tags/retailer tags intact or do you try to peel them off?? Just curious.

Also, do small tears on the cellophane wrapping effect value?

I leave everything intact. The only time I remove a sticker is on steelbooks from HMV.UK., especially if it's blocking the art. They remove nice and easy. Thanks to Deuce for that tip

I think small tears may affect the value, but all depends on how bad the tear is. It shouldn't affect the value that much though.
