Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

hey guys, what's the easiest way to post pictures here? I never tried it and when I did last night it was a tiny tiny picture...

i've ordered from Amazon Canada in 2 pcs and 6 pcs separate orders. they use a simple overpack carton that folds like a box but no buble pack on the steelbooks. my experience so far is 2 out of 14 dented.

once i ordered a single steelbook and they shipped it in a flimsy buble envelope. my steelbook was dented/dinged with paint chips to boot. i can't say i can charge this on their innocence because i know they've gotten a lot of complaints on their packaging

ordered 4pcs from HMV Hong-Kong and quickly emailed their customer service about protecting the collectible steelbook. they sent them individually buble packed inside a carton box. so far all are mint :)

For the most part I would say they are reliable, but like any shipment there are problems sometimes. They ship in thin cardboard boxes, but almost always arrive safely.

@Death Proof

i've only ordered once from HMV UK so far.
they sent my Thor steelbook in a shipping box that is slightly larger than a DVD (G1) case with no buble pack protection. the box took a hit on one of the corners but the steel book is mint.

you may want to email them and ask for some extra protection on your order...good luck

Yeah the packing is horrible, same packing I received a couple years ago. Mine took ages to get too, and you must wait a min. of 45 days after shipment before they will even think about shipping another to you. snail mail for sure. Almost better to work with a UK member to have peace of mind. imo.

Or try em' out once, I usually try anything once.

HMV UK works fine in the UK as relatively short distance to travel. In fact I use the boxes for remailing within the UK but fully packed with bubble wrap. They are definitely not so good as a long distance mailer, as once they take a dent it would keep on coming. As a result I don't use them for sending long distance overseas even padded out (but I'm willing to try).

Guys, slightly off topic but I didn't know where else to put it - can anyone tell me what the customs threshold is in the US please? I'm looking at ordering 2/3 of the Amazon.jp steelbooks and have them delivered to the US if I won't get hit by customs. Thanks

I have been out of the loop for a month or so, so excuse me if this has been discussed. I got an order of 4 steels from Amazon.de. Each was wrapped in bubble wrap and individually packed in their usual shipping box. The boxes were then put in a solid shipping cartom. I couldn't believe it. Is this their new NORMAL. EEK!:D:D

Nice BRJ! It seems there have been reports recently of some of the Amazon sites 'beefin things up'. Some are still getting items shipped in flimsy mailers. But at least they seem to be trying. I've received packages with extra padding myself.

I didn't know where to put this, but I got a empty HMV box in the mail yesterday. The end wasn't even closed. I have had this happen with 2 other steelbooks from them in the last month, but the movie stayed inside. I think they need to start putting tape around the ends. Has anyone ever had this happen from HMV? What should I do.

Hi Rye, any Steelbooks I have are part of group buys in the trading forum. We have post limits for PM's and the trading forum to stop some spammers, but feel free to get in touch via PM after 7 posts, if you have any questions. Only Bitchslap(IT) and Cowboys and Aliens(CA) are currently open group buys, rest are closed). But after 30 posts, you can access trading forum with plenty of opportunities to trade with members:)
