Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

I leave everything intact. The only time I remove a sticker is on steelbooks from HMV.UK., especially if it's blocking the art. They remove nice and easy. Thanks to Deuce for that tip

I think small tears may affect the value, but all depends on how bad the tear is. It shouldn't affect the value that much though.
+1 Any sticker with "personal" info I tend to remove, thankfully few of them. The pain can be some of the Amazon.de Marketplace Sellers who are "professional" and have their own barcode usually on the back over the actual Steel's barcode. They can be removed but require a bit of perseverance and patience.

Quick question for those of you who keep your steels sealed..... do you leave price tags/retailer tags intact or do you try to peel them off?? Just curious.

Also, do small tears on the cellophane wrapping effect value?

Maybe I'm weird but I quite like the sticked stuff. I, like others, remove the HMV personal sticker. My hate are the security tags, bought instore e.g. HMV.

I'm OCD, so any small shrinkwrap tears I return to retailer EEK!

Anyone know if there is still a delivery issue to the US from amazon.fr? I thought there was a separate thread for this, but I can't seem to find it. I ordered an extra X-Men Le Commencement from amazon.fr and didn't choose expedited shipping, so I'm hoping it doesn't get delivered back to amazon like a couple of past experiences. It's been a while since I tried ordering from them so I'm not sure if anything has changed. Thanks in advance.

Update: My package has arrived in the US, and it may arrive well before the expected delivery date of 11/19. Looks like they may have finally straightened out their shipping dilemma :D

these steelbooks are now available on amazon.de!! prices seem to vary from 24.99 euros to 29.99 euros. quite pricey, but now easier to pick up.

Thanks for the post leelee, but those are from 3rd party amazon marketplace resellers.

I'm sure that many folks could pick them up from a trusted member here with much less hassle. :)

Awesome news - hopefully this is figured out from now on - that expedited shipping is KILLER.

It was nearly double for my order. I just hope this service level remains consistent and doesn't revert back to the days of un-deliverable orders.

oh man, after December...I hope they all relax and don't release any steelbooks until April...my wallet needs time to recover....really!

I have placed my order at Amazon US yesterday, and they confirm me today that they have shipped my order. I ordered with standard shipment, but there's something not usual with it. they send it with UPS with tracking EEK!

Is Amazon US now ship with tracking UPS? As I know they send with it if we ordered express shipment.
But if now they do standard shipment with tracking then it's a progress for them :scat:

New Steelbook collector here. A few questions....

I've got 4 or 5 steelbooks in total right. I wanna pick up some more.

1. What are the must have steelbooks? What I mean by that is there are some blu rays that everyone must have in their collection. What are the steelbooks everyone should have. Opinions are great.

2. What is the best website or way to guage what a steelbook is worth? I can be patient, but don't want to overpay for something unless I absolutely must have it.
For example....I just bought the Book of Eli collector's edition for $34 brand new. Is that a good price or did I pay too much.

Thanks in advance.

I pull back my statement above, this UPS really suck.. here's what happened to me :
1. I place order at Amazon.com like usual and choose standard shipment
2. They send it with express delivery using UPS with tracking (but Amazon charge me for standard shipment)
3. in 5 days, UPS employee call me and said that my goods have arrived and I must pay an extra fee for around $25. EEK!
They said it for my local customs tax, but my local customs threshold is $50 and my order from amazon only $35.
4. I already email Amazon and complaint about this wrong shipping method, but there's nothing they can do and they said sorry for that.
5. Finally I call UPS and told them to send my goods, and I really really disappointed now

Thunda, see the 'stickied' threads in the Steelbook and Trading forum for most of your answers. Our site is the # 1 site for Steelbooks, so I am sure you can find most answers here. Example: 'Current Value' thread here

I'm not Thunda, but I was wondering about the current value of certain steels thanks for the link , thats awesome.:oohyeah:

Hi i have a little question. I´d like to know what the first Steelbook release ever was. I´m not talking about Blu-ray, for that it was Pans Labyrinth in Germany, but about the actually first release ever. It probably was a DVD Steel but i couldn´t find any info in the net. If anybody has an idea it would be nice if he or she could share his/her knowledge. Thanks Guys.

I couldn't quite find the answer I'm looking for so I decided that I'll just ask the question......

I'm looking to make some purchases off of Amazon Germany and Amazon Japan.

Which method do they use to ship items to the United States?

I live in the US, but live in a rural area and don't have postal service delivery to my house. Only UPS, Fed Ex, etc can deliver to my home address. I do have a PO Box for postal service delivery.

Does anyone know if either sites use the United states postal service once the package enters the US or do they continue on with another carrier for delivery.

I'm just trying to figure out which address to use when I check out.
Thanks in advance.

Bump, anyone live in rural area able to help Thunda ? I know a lot depends if you have DHL in your area, if not ... it gets passed on to post office.

Wreck, I think you are correct. I've had DHL come to my house, but the USPS has an agreement with the DHL for the customs clearance aspect. But I don't live in a rural area, so perhaps it depends on your location...I am not sure. Anyone else?

FWIW as I live in UK, due to proximity of Heathrow, most of the major couriers have operations fairly locally. DHL which is my favoured courier, I know "exchange" parcels between vans locally, the customs aspect of it is dealt with separately by them and at least their admin charge is very low £1.25 (if I remember right) compared to Royal Mail's £8 charge for exactly the same thing. Amazon.co.jp certainly prefers DHL when shipping to UK, although Amazon.uk have been using Hermes UK (only operate in UK sadly) whilst Black Friday rush was on.
