Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

Thats crazy, what Country do you live in?

I lived at Indonesia, I often buy amaray from Amazon, but this is the first time they treat me like that. I think it's just human error because my next order after that shipped normally :)

I want to order Cowboys & Aliens' SteelBook from hmv.com but am puzzled by the shipping and wanted to get the input from someone that has done business with them before. When I place the title in the shopping basket and go to the shipping page it has either 'Air Mail' or 'Overseas Mail' going to the US. As far as I'm aware doesn't Air Mail deliver overseas too. I mean it's really reasonable and the overseas one is outragous. Since it has taken my address into account are both of those options available to me or is it just the overseas one? Thanks.

Air Mail will get to your destination in the US. It's just a matter of wording.

So I had my first ever package from amazon.de come incomplete. I had orderd 3 Jack Ryan Collections and they only put 1 of them inside my package. I can't figure out how to get ahold of them to let them know this. Is there a direct link to contact them somehow. I dont speak GER so anything would help. Thanks.

Chip, use the Contact Us link (https://www.amazon.de/gp/help/contact-us/general-questions.html&tag=hidefnin0d-21) on their website and they are very good at responding in English. I used it to get refunds on price drops several times for DE, JP and even FR. Make sure you are logged in and you should see your order in the dropdown box. And just type your question/complaint in English and they will take care of the rest.

Oh one more thing - you should do this on the Google Chrome browser which translates on the fly :)

Hi chip, I have same experience like you when I ordered from Amazon.de at the first time. I ordered 2 steelbooks (DaVinci Code + Goemon) but they just send me DaVinci at first shipment, then I email them with English writing and I took the same step as ash give to you above. And then, they respond my email in a few hours, they said there's an error with my order and they send my Goemon tomorrow morning. I received my Goemon in a week with no additional cost :D
Hope this will help you solve your problem :)

Thanks for letting me feel better. I am waiting on their reply. I am sure they will look at my previous and future order history and have no problem with that. :D

What to do?

So I am going on a hot date :naughty: tonight after being out of the dating scene for years (long story for another thread). Should I or should I NOT bring up my steelbook addiction? I mean, I love steelbooks and I love talking about Babydoll and her crew on the lovely steelie. Oops, I guess I shouldn't then. Never mind.

I did that with my dates sharing my hobby however rather than bringing an actual steelbook I make a snapshot of my collection to my iphone camera and just showed it to them.

In return, I take a snapshot of me and my date together and that would be falling under the category : Other Collections

Impress with one's real self and be impressed with what we get in return.

Good Luck Dude!

Thanks for the advice xage. I will be true to my real self and see what I get in return. ;)

Okey...I just had my very, very first steelbook spine take-out...i.e. I pulled it out, fixed it and stuck it in again! Thanks to that fine "how to" instructions on converting Jumbo's to slim case which shows that in one of it's steps!! This is the just released Smurfs steelbook from this morning...I opened it and noticed that the spine was more stuck to the right than centre!! pissed me off...but decided to try slipping an old credit card inbetween the spine and the case...and voila...fixed it! so check your Smurfs steels for crooked ones!

Anyone Uk based know if inetvideo are customs friendly - I've ordered from them before (thankfully their packaging appears to be getting better) but it's always been below the customs threshold so I'm not sure. Thanks

Quality of German re-releases

I know the re-release of the .de titles is a contentious issue, but what are people’s thoughts on the quality of the steelbooks in general?

I received a number of them yesterday; I took a gamble in the hope that the FSK rating would be a sticker. As the price dropped I thought I would take a gamble, I’m a betting man :)

I’ll summarise my thoughts:

Transformers 1 & 2, the print looks substandard. The colours are more or less transparent. There’s a kind of dot matrix printer feel to it.

Public Enemies, printed FSK logo on the first release (come on!) the debossed title doesn’t match up with the red letter, it’s a little too much to the left.

Sucker Punch, printed FSK, Printed “2 disc edition” on the front. The print again is sort of transparent whereas the original had more of a gloss look.

300, same as above, the colours appear too transparent.

Inception, Printed FSK, but other than that it still looks good. The print is spot on.

From my experience, UK, Canada & Futureshop releases are top drawer. I have never looked at the paint & felt it was below par. I only own a handful of original German releases and they appear to be really good. So are they all really poor?

I’ll post some pictures to show what I mean when I finally get home tonight

I have Transformers 1 & 2 re-releases, and I think they look good. But I know that they don't have inside artwork, and even tho I don't open my steels, it somehow bothers me!

I guess I'll stick to original releases or other countries steels when they are available.

Whilst I was pleased with the Transformers 1 & 2 artwork, I have to confess I too was a bit disappointed with the paint job - it's OK and I guess they were cheap, but not up to the quality of the originals.
