Plain Archive is excited to announce the release of I Saw The Devil Steelbook. We've been asked by Blue Kino, another Korean Blu-ray company to design the Steelbook edition which will be PLAIN ARCHIVE's exclusive.
We were hoping to release the world's first Steelbook edition of I Saw The Devil, but Zavvi announced its own before we could. The news made us reconsider the project, but with director Kim Jee-woon's support, we couldn't drop it.
I Saw The Devil Steelbook will be released under the approval of director Kim, and we are working on the artwork as we speak.
Best Regards
PLAIN ARCHIVE

Hopefully that's just the camera and the lighting making it appear that way, if you look at these two shots taken of the cover and of the back artwork, notice how much lighter the wood of the table is on the photo of the cover? The photo taken of the cover artwork also seems to be taken at more of a higher, front on angle, and the back artwork at a slightly lower, flatter one, with the gloss catching more of the light and making it appear a little lighter. I think that each side does have that sharp, deep black to it, and although I could be wrong, I think its just visual trickery making it appear otherwise. Well, fingers crossed anyway. ;)

You guys are talking as if PA are going to print the Steelbook in their backyard. Any Photoshop expert with an artistic sense will be able to come up with stunning design in hours.

If it's that easy, how come Zavvi keeps dropping turds? You and your three tasteless, jealous buddies cringe every time the Asian eTailers kick Zavvi in the teeth. :p

Zavvi drops 100s and turds are inevitable. I am not jealous. It is you who are as you never admit that many UK Steels look nice and offers best value for money including postage and still in the Rush thread you called us tasteless which is rude.

Yes this is only Plain Archives 2nd steelbook release! But thats NOT all they have released. :muted:
Check out their amazing Exclusives of Melancholia, The King of Pigs, The Fake, Blue is the Warmest Colour. Those releases alone have set a new standard in terms of quality and finish...IMO
Also collaborating on designing slips, packaging, disc art, for (Tinker Tailer Solider Spy, The Grey, The Tree of Life, Wu Xia) Everything they touch is done with style and class. And regardless of how long they take to release. You always know that each and every release they do is done with exceptional attention to detail and a love of what they are doing!
Not forgetting Rush for Kimchi which I think is one of the best releases I have seen. The quality of the full slip and the finish on the steelbook is outstanding!!

So they are not ONE hit wonders as some are trying to say! :muted: :p

My concern is there is a great level of tolerance, soft touch approach and bias towards these releases. The moment an UK based retailer delays a release there is a huge fuss made despite money not being taken upfront.

If you check the Captain America threads, I have always maintained that Blufans will be the best version proving I don't hate these releases.

I think it's pretty obvious why some members and myself have such a soft spot for these releases. One word...QUALITY!
The slips, extras, the attention to detail in everything the Asian retailers do. From their exclusives right down to the extreme care they take when packing and protecting each release for shipping. I know we pay more but that is my, our choice. And I for one am happy to pay it.
I won't get into the argument of UK (Zavvi vs Asia) retailers. As it's a non issue for me as I don't buy from Zavvi and I don't waste my time going in those threads to poo poo on their releases no matter how I feel about them! That argument is never ending and goes nowhere. Horses for courses.

I only collect Asian releases because IMO they are better all round. But that doesn't stop me from buying UK or European if I think it's an outstanding release.
Anyway I think it's getting way of topic now. :muted:
I can't wait for this release from plain and know that the slip and attention to finish, paper used, numbered sticker, etc, will be quality from top to bottom..... :notworthy:

Now hurry up Plain I want to see what the full slip is going to be like! And just take my money NOW for this and the amazing "The Master"!! :p :naughty:

Oh and can you design my Christmas Tree PLEASE?!!

Shame it got delayed from the rumoured Summer release. If pre orders start next week for example then it wont be out until October most likely.

Very well said Earthscope!

I don't care where a release is from, I care about what it is.

Is it bare bones, cheap looking, with poor art work or something special, with quality, extras, details, and beautiful?

I also avoid retailers that do not properly package and ship their steelbooks, have poor customer service, and of poor reputation.

You get what you pay for...

Nice comparison shots with the Zavvi steel. I know which one I prefer ;) Also wouldn't mind seeing the bottom corner left art card as the art for the slipcover. Either or that or the internal shot of Choi's car (with the angel wings lit up) from the CE DVD release.

Either way I've been holding off watching the film again until I get this beauty.
