It is with pleasure that I can announce to you steelbook fans something that has been in the works for a while. From Scanavo comes Blu-ray Fr4me.

FR4ME™ presents a new generation of packaging. Scanavo’s FR4ME™ is a stylish, collectable and unique new way to package media.

It is Scanavo’s designers’ aim to add more collector value to media packaging and with it‘s stylish design and creative choices Fr4me™ does not disappoint!
Fr4me™ is the first packaging which gives Blu-rayTM owners the choice to customise their pack with their preferred choice of artwork. Fr4me™ can even stand, unaided, in a horizontal position like a real frame.

It’s stylish, minimalistic looks have presented a major attraction to film studio Universal Pictures, who have commissioned it for the UK release of their Sci-fi blockbuster OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise.

Within its innate ability to house a range of artwork, Fr4me™ can accommodate media on a range of materials, for instance lenticular. There is a special physical closeness to the artwork for the owner as there is no plastic film covering. A multitude of creative options exist for film studios to make Fr4me™ ideal for any genre and title.

Fr4me™ comes in a wide range of standard colours and the durable ABS substrate from which the outer ‘frames’ are made adds an exclusive touch which further redefines Blu-rayTM packaging.

With Scanavo comes the natural reassurance of quality. Scanavo - the premium packaging specialists - have created something worthy of the quality of Blu-rayTM. In a still strong physical media market, Fr4me™ adds value back into packaging and is sure to kick-start a whole new community of collectors.

OBLIVION packed in Fr4me™ will be available at most major UK retailers.
More exciting options for Fr4me™ will be developed in the near future!

Fr4me™ is a patented media packaging by Scanavo. Heard first at Hi-def Ninja

I suppose we'll have to wait a little longer for inside pictures and confirmation of how the disc is held in place. That is, if anyone here actually took the plunge and bought one (at £17, no thanks!)

Unless one you have in stock should accidentally have its shrinkwrap damaged before then... ;)

:hidefninja:

lol ah unfortunately the store that had them had just taken delivery of them behind the counter- not out on display yet- I don't actually work there tho.
Should have one first thing Friday morning

I appreciate and commend any firm that's trying to innovate and bring something new to the table, but unfortunately this seems pretty much a misfire. If their goal was to achieve art customizability, adding different lenticular (or just plain standard) magnets would be more than enough. They looked good, and most importantly, they didn't have a negative impact on the overall art and design of the package. This unfortunately does.

It seems that they are trying to give film fans some options to 'customize' their movies via this new display.

I like that idea but I think the actual frame is too thick and makes the artwork too small...the artwork should be the highlight, and not the frame. Anyway, here's info on the material...quote...

It doesn't appeal to me one bit. Why would I buy a product in steel (to avoid plastic packaging) to then put it in plastic packaging? It really does look cheap and nasty to me.

And if I'm reading it correctly, the steelbook no longer comes sealed, but fr4med instead?

I thought this 'Fr4me' packaging was an alternative to Steelbooks, not something you put a Steelbook inside?

Now I'm confused, why put this in the steelbook thread then??? It's plastic, if it's not steelbook related then why is this thread allowed here?

Simply because it's from the same company who produce Steelbooks. It's great that they announced this new type of packaging here 'first'. Except the 'Fr4me' version of Oblivion has been available to pre-order since the Steelbook was announced.

Just so a lot of people could see this new "innovation". Especially those who don't venture out of the Steelbook forum ;)

Are we questioning Wreck's judgment? j/k :p

I would've opted for "L4me".

Cr4p? :naughty:

Im not so sure about this at all...might look better in hand I suppose. I think Id like to see more 'real' pictures before being too judgemental. One thing Im confused about, is the packaging actually a frame? ie transparent front (and back?) so what your looking at on the Oblivion edition for example is the Blurays slipcover through the 'frame' (I cant bring myself to use fr4me lol) so the frame packaging isnt a replacement for the amaray case its actually a frame case containing an amaray inside?

It's by the company that also releases 'Steelbook'™. It can be moved later-I am sure Wreck posted here because many fans of limited editions at our site are also Steelbook enthusiasts-and many Steel fans also collect limited eds, so it was posted here as HDN exclusive news in this part of the forum first.
