IMO a matte steelbook is the way to go for any DARKER-coloured lenticular steelbook so that the border doesn't clash/contrast with the lenticular which is matte itself anyway although I can see a gloss border working well with a PALER-coloured lenticular magnet.

As an example of a darker lenti steelbook "Life of Pi" looks just fine to me and I doubt whether a gloss surround to the lenti would have added anything to the mix.

Anyway, I doubt very much that the executives from the studios, Scanavo and Zavvi come together and decide on a matte finish for these lenti steelbooks just for the hell of it and I'd imagine that there must be other reasons for their decisions apart from the extra cost which is as reported minimal.
Would they be daft enough to decide on such a finish if it hadn't been considered from all angles as the idea is to make and sell steelbooks and not to make them less saleworthy and have them lying unsold in the warehouses gathering dust ?

They are what they are for better or for worse and I for one hope that I will like them all once I have actually seen them and have them in-hand.
After all, they are a big investment so I'd better like them . . .

For those that don't like them then don't buy them . . . obviously.

FYI many of my absolute favourite U.K. steelbooks are as matte as they come but there's little point in listing them here and anyway this is clearly the wrong place to do that.

Theres one thing that annoys me a little. Its so much empty space over their heads. They could have centered it a little better.

Could look really nice with a gloss finish, but as we all know, this wave i matte so :/

This one and "IM 1" are my two favourites of this wave and, though completely different to my Play editions, I'll be glad to add these to the collection and trust they'll look as good in the flesh as I'm hoping.
Love the colours of IM and the simple uncluttered imagery as well as the dull background as a means of contrast and can hardly wait for it to drop through my letter-box.
