Yes because half a pound of cheap chocolate (toffee) costs the same to produce , license and market as a billion dollar earning superhero Blu Ray Disc.

Steelbooks are just packaging, I doubt they add very much to the cost of production of the overall release.

The price is set by Disney (not known as the most generous of corporations) Based on what they think they can charge. It is further discounted by Zavvi. What was the wholesale price of this release , it's usually around 50% of rrp, but in negotiating for an exclusive Zavvi probably had to pay a slightly higher price (also limiting the UK run - though it appears to part of the global run) . Disney also chose the art, a global print run is cheaper for them. Disney don't like the idea of a profitable 2nd hand market (they make nothing from it) so charge a premium for the first release

But of course why do Disney & Zavvi think they can charge this amount ? Because of places like this. 60 plus pages of people posting about a release before it gets officially announced , whether negative or not shows interest. Constant postings about print runs, who will order , who won't , will it be valuable (on this and other threads) means that companies like Disney & Zavvi can see a profit. Of course how dare a shop charge a high price for something you want , or Disney release something you want with a pretty wrapper that you actually want more than the contents.

Not saying any of this is right or proper

1st post, good start eh ?

Zavvi.....is that you?

:hilarious:

Ha, on Zavvi's facebook announcement for IM3 I said that the price was high and that I had a heard a lot of people say that they might cancel their pre-order if they don't lower the price a bit and now that comment is mysteriously missing from Zavvi's facebook page. I don't think they appreciated my warning.

Pre-ordered for now, but like many others, I'll also be cancelling it if the price doesn't drop by release. The German steelbook is MUCH cheaper!

I say Entertainment Store and everyone's strange willingness to happily pay their inflated prices has got us in this screwed situation with UK exclusives. Zavvi's just doing what we set em up to do.

Amen to that. The UK has ruined it for everyone else paying stupid prices for those stupid English printed slipcovers and stickers as ES don't ship outside of there :(

Now Zavvi is continuing on the trend worldwide :(

I think you are missing the point of my post.

I was merely pointing out the fact that they can afford to emboss the lid of there product, and sell for a cheap price (not comparing its contents like for like) :p

I think some people see this process as a bit special and probably costs alot more to do, so therefore justifies a higher price tag, not so.

All of the other 'costs' you talk of still go into the amaray version, yet that can be bought for much much less. We buy Steelbooks because they appeal to a collector because they are normally limited, and different to the norm.

My point here is value, when I buy something I like to feel I have had value for my money, It is worth what I paid for it, and I don't feel they are at these prices, unless you buy to sell on in which case it can be.

I am speaking from a collecting point of view, and I hate it when I feel as though I am being taken advantage of. Sadly I think we all are.

Of course these are my views only, and people have the choice how they want to spent there money.
