Great picture Ben, interesting with the weight differences, I never actually compared the differences but now it has confirmed the FS weighs a little more. I wish more steels can be heavy like the Vvia MB, nice piece of a metal collectible casing.

I remember when I had Iron Man FS it was mouth dropping. I don't know if the Play version can do this but under dim lights the Iron Man eye looks like it is glowing. EEK!
Truly an amazing feature to see in person.

Let's not start pointing fingers here. Just because people are not posting doesn't mean there not watching. When you make a post all eye are on you especially in a thread as popular as this one so please keep it friendly and that's not just for you but for everybody in here. Thanks for understanding. :)

:yeahthat:, let's just all get along otherwise I'll lock the thread. :D

to each his own...both releases are superb! if you missed out on the futureshop, then the play version is more than adequate to justify just being on its on and not needing another version in your collection.out of curiosity though,i removed the discs inside both steelbooks and weighed them.the end result...futureshop version is 5.4 ounces and play version is 4.8 ounces.

2 disc holder vs. 1 ?

2 disc holder vs. 1

sshhhhh....i was trying to give the "old man" any psychological advantage there is :D
it's like the old heavyweight being challenged by the new comer.you gotta give the old guy an edge before they start going at it ;)
maybe when i have some extra time,i'll remove the plastic holders inside and give the actual weight of the metal cases literally.

Surely if the play.com version didn't exist, many newer collectors who want a great IM steel would be in the market for the FS edition?

And as most ppl prefer "cheaper & good enough" over expensive & perfect, that's gotta be having an effect on the FS edition, no?

...hell most ppl are too cheep to even buy the freaking bluray - they own the IM dvd instead :hilarious:

Maybe I'm just easily pleased so the Play.com version does me fine.

The FS version was long out of print by the time I joined the Blu-ray revolution and yes, when I got into steelbooks obviously I wanted it what with it being one of my favourite films and part of the MU steelbook collection. I looked at the prices and decided that it wasn't worth it to me personally.

As time went on and I got Captain America and Thor especially, I wanted Iron Man and Iron Man 2 more. In the end I bought Iron Man 2 from Korea and added it to my collection but something about it annoyed me. Yes, it's a great design and feels very nice but I'm afraid to say I hated the blue banner and the thick edging around the design. It was also the only steelbook in my collection that even had the blue banner. That actually put me off buying Iron Man much more than the price.

Then, along came Play with the answer to my problem. Iron Man and IM2 steelbooks without the banner and with thinner edging like every other embossed steelbook I own. Perfect! Or at least, perfect for me.

I bought them both, the Korean Iron Man 2 had the discs removed and the case went in the bin. I swapped out the plastic inner for both titles and made them 3 disc sets. It would have been nicer if they'd been 2/3 discs in the first place but what do you expect from a budget release? Oh, and the wrong pictures inside, to be honest I don't care.

I can see why the original FS version is so loved, and why many say it's the best. Maybe it is. The design is slightly different, the colours brighter and yes, it's much rarer and commands a higher price. That doesn't change the fact that as far as I'm concerned the Play.com version just looks nicer on my shelf. I don't care if it cost less or if there's more of them out there or even if the red is darker/duller. Play's is my personal favourite of the two.

I genuinely wouldn't want the FS version. Sure, I'd take it if given to me free and sell it at far less than everyone on Ebay is asking. But it's not an item I want to own and that's all I care about.

I think you have raised this comment on this thread on many occasions, with all do respect, it is becoming repetitive. We already know you like the Play.com, tell us something different :hilarious:

I also like fish finger sandwiches. But the FS versions are the best!

The reason I've said so many times now about my preference is because, as a lot of accusatory posts state, some people believe that those who prefer Play's version are saying it because they don't have or can't get the FS one. In a lot of cases it simply isn't true.

Well I've read your comment, and respect your opinion, how about giving this thread a little space? We all know you like the Play.com version, there is no requirement to keep posting the same message. I've raised my points very clear and that is all I need to say, you have done the same.

You could be suffering from steelbook envy. :p

I'm the same way though, I'd rather have a Yugo than an Enzo Ferrari. ;)

Good post. I myself am not a fan of the blue banners on the Steelbooks either, and I also parted with my IM2 that had it in favor of the Play.com one.

I do love the color and style of the FS Iron Man, but the great news is that I personally own the G1 of the very same Steelbook. It is literally the very same quality, just bigger, missing the blue banner, and has a DVD emblem instead of a blu-ray one.

(Thanks for the pic Morlock :) )
