^^ yeah from what i'm reading i get the impression that some newr collectors have not only given up even attempting to own a copy of the FS edition, they are now even too cheap to try for the far, far cheaper, plentiful and easily available play.com version - and are instead whining for a 3rd re-release :ugh:

....can u imagine if retailers listened?

There wld be a new Iorn Man steelbook released every year to accommodate the newest batch of whining collectors :wtf: :violent:

Lol, you sure did'nt pull any punches on this post. Sometimes a bit of aggressiveness and directness is needed. That's for sure. Good on ya mate.

They can release an Iron Man steelbook every year between now and the end of time for all I care. It can be identical to the FS version, the Play version, hell, even the German edition. They can make it an all new design if they want.

I've got the Play version, that will do me. It matches their IM2 release and isn't too far off Zavvi's IM3. None of them have the blue banner, that's what I like.

Brilliant:thumbs:

If this did get a re release I'd be very surprised if the release felt the same.

There is, in my opinion, a noticeable difference in weight with the FS IM.. I also believe that the finish appears more premium.

It's a stunner!

Wow this thread has had quite a boost of interest lately.

My friend is offering me the Play version. Is it much worse than this one?

I have owned both but I sold my FS one because it was valuable and could help further my steelbook habit. My personal opinion is that the FS one has a richer red color and the steel seems to be a thicker gauge but either is an excellent addition to any collection. So I suggest if the price is right jump at opportunity to snag one.

My, I cannot help but comment when we are talking about IM FS.

I agree with sunnyx, this IS the original grail. It was cathartic when I secured my copies last year, personally. I know, I get some stick from people :D due to my rather unhealthy emphasis on grails, but we are talking about collecting steelbooks, and surely that is some merit and its normal to talk about limited editions and collectibles. I agree with stevo too, in that I will be happy to pick up every single sealed IM FS available for $300 or less, even while the larger steelbook market for "non-rare" (incl Asian) steels seems to be collapsing.

IMHO, the value of IM FS will hold, even if it is re-released in the same shape and form. Recent releases do not show absolute proof, but is indicative (e.g. Star Trek, even Batman Begins). Zombieland Zavvi dragged both the original DE release and itself down, but that's coz Zombieland isn't a franchise, nor a Marvel. It will be interesting to see how Thor Zavvi affects the original release. I am inclined to think it wont even cause a dent.

And thanks, DB and all other mods, for your efforts to "protect" the original releases!

So if the value of the FS iron man will hold then what will it hurt? :)

I know. But it had been a while.

If I was personally in charge of Marvel's releases, I actually would release more IM steels because from a business point of view, it's a money-maker.

What I wouldn't do is an exact reprint. Partly because I wouldn't want to create bad feeling among collectors. I'm more than happy for the FS version to remain the 'grail' in their collection. For anyone who owns it and loves it for what it is, I commend you. For anyone who own it just because it's valuable, well, good for you.

And partly, or more than anything, it would be better for business to offer alternatives that would entice those with the FS and Play versions to buy the new one as well along with those who don't have one at all.

On a personal level, I'd rather see a decent Incredible Hulk release that's portrait rather than landscape first.

I agree with you on some of your points. I am still waiting for a decent IM release I don't like the FS one (sorry but I just don't) so at least I am saving a few £ and as for the play.com rehashes, I am so sick of seeing those covers and that goes for the new Thor & CA.
I want to see new art on re-releases and maybe add some new content and call it something like 'special edition' like they used to before every release became a SE.

I am with you for a decent Incredible Hulk and a different Avengers Assemble would be nice too
