Wouldn't you rather be sat with 1 minute to go. Trembling, sweating, in a state of panic and dread?
That's what collecting is about!!!!

Not if its a major failure. The proof is in the group buy.It was more successful than the pre-ordering online. That is a problem. No other way to look at it.Just look the comments here, people are already pointing to the group buy.Why even have the pre-ordering occur.
People were running the other way when I mentioned the blufans should open up a website for international customers BEFORE they even announced it.It was like taboo when I spoke about it.Nobody else was saying anything.Ideas can be mentioned here once in awhile if you truly believe in it.

Kimchi is still very much a maturing company, they still may not have the resources to expand their capabilities to accommodate such traffic. I think as of now allocating a certain amount of copies to HDN for GB's is the most effective and efficient method to cope with Kimchi's limited servers. It also allows for a minuscule contribution, by giving back in the form of a GB fee. I personally think it worked well for Frozen, and allowed for two different selling times. A membership fee does not seem very practical, as not everyone wants every single release. Some might share those unwanted exclusives with fellow members others won't. As I stated earlier, I might not have secured a copy if it were not for HDN. Choi and Tony seem to have a soft spot for this community, which allows for these awesome opportunities ;)

Thats the whole point of the membership. It's another option. It's not for everybody but a different avenue of obtaining their exclusives without having to deal with all the traffic. The group buys were a first come first served basis as well. You were not GUARANTEED a spot. Not everyone got a spot.People to this day are still asking to obtain a copy.Having a membership is a very good option. It's not a must for anybody but an OPTION and would guarantee you a copy.

I think if there were to be a membership opportunity offered (which isn't the worst idea I've heard), they should have two different pre-ordering times per release.

The first of which would be for those "card carrying" members. Giving them the chance to either confirm (or deny) wanting to purchase a copy. Then the second would obviously be for those who have not opted to purchase a membership. That way, if you're willing to pay the premium then you're guaranteed a copy and don't have to worry about signing up at a specific time (instead, just signing up during a specific time period. 24 hours or whatever time frame might be allotted).

I don't think being expected to pay for EVERY release is feasible, especially when you're paying money solely for a spot in line and especially if all releases haven't been announced at the time of membership enrollment.

I think if Kimchi were to decide to go this route, then it might be nice to cut HDN in on a little of the action since we are their biggest single source of business. Either a discounted membership for HDN members or the same cost, but with a portion of the membership being donated to HDN.

With all of that being said, I don't mind seeing it go either way. I certainly think splitting orders between Kimchi's pre-ordering process and an HDN GB suffices, but at the same time there is added benefit for EVERYONE involved with a certain business model being applied to a Kimchi annual/biannual membership enrollment process.

I'm liking this a lot now.We need to have some more inputs on this as much as possible.Like you said,It's not a crazy idea after all. There are fan clubs out there in the real world and we as members here would admit to being "FANS" of Kimchidvd as well.

Maybe im missing something in your idea but lets say theres an exclusive limited to 500-1000 copies of a highly sought after title (Marvel/Disney) which is not alot. If there was a membership, and there were over 1000 members then theres a problem right? Sounds like a good idea in theory but these releases are too limited to guarantee copies to people if everyone is to have a fair chance. Correct me if I missed something in your idea though.

The cost...will everybody be willing to pay $200-$300 annual fee for the membership? There has to be some tweaking involved as suggested.1000 memberships is a lot for that cost and not everyone will be dancing to get in line for something like that.It won't be everybody's "cup of tea" but will be a nice option indeed.

What about my idea of confirming order with one click like the forum GB? Then payment can be handled within 24-48 hours. It's the 7 pages of payment checkout that ruins everything. What about 1 page.... Confirm Order! BOOM! >>> :hilarious:

Thats what the tweaking is about. You're one less member to worry about. There are exclusive memberships everywhere.Disney has a club as well and there are numerous fan clubs out there.
V.I.P passes.there are so many variations out there. You don't need to have a tunnel vision about it.Open your mind a little. It won't hurt.

My mind is open. It wont work for this business. Its not a major company like Disney that sells tens of thousands of one item. We are talking about items that go out of stock quickly because of possible grail status in the future. This steelbook market is very fragile and there is no reason to change what is working for the sellers. They are selling and that is all that matters. No need to change that.

If it aint broken don't fix it. To kimchi it aint broken.

Weren't you the same guy that was just bashing Kimchidvd for holding a group buy in this forum from just a few posts before and stating it was WRONG and the same guy that is currently bashing their new collection in another thread close by.You are saying that their doing things so proper currently yet they've got you so opposed at the same time. Why so angry? It almost seems like there are certain members here whose responsibility is to bash threads around.I'm not going around telling members how awful their thoughts and ideas are around this forum.Weren't you the one from time and time again who claims to protest certain retailers and then turn around and keep buying their stock...Come on, keep your story straight.

Not everything is perfect at every retailer. I will always continue to purchase from all of them. I like to speak my mind when I feel they are making mistakes which they have. Zavvi, amazon, Kimchi, all make mistakes. Doesn't mean I will stop buying stuff from them. I still feel to date Kimchi is hands down the best steelbook retailer in the world. The point is the process of way they are selling is no different than any other retailer yet you think its broken. Its not in any way. They are moving their product and collectors are getting it.

I don't get every release that comes out. I pay double or triple on the 2nd hand market every month for stuff. I don't complain about it. That is how the collectible worlds works. I put my money where my mouth is!!! Ive been buying from Kimchi for years and yet to return a single product or complain. I guess that makes me a lifetime Kimchi member?

BTW I am not angry at all. Nothing to be angry about. I am just LOLing about all this. Its pretty crazy if you ask me. People always want what I the hardest to get stuff, but when something not so hot comes around they all flee away and call in their cancelations. If you want the best you better be able to handle the worst.

You know,I'm not angry at all.Chip you know I completely respect you but I just don't go around bashing people's ideas and thoughts. It's not me and it's not healthy.Retailers see what we write here and take it with a grain of salt. They're not bound with what we want all the time.I commented about Blufans opening up an international site and I guess that was another crazy idea I had as well.Sometimes what sounds like a crazy idea might not be as bad as you think.

It didn't take rocket science to figure out that blufans had to get with the times and open up an international site. The quality control of their steels is the worst of any brand by far and everyone on here knows this. Anyway nothing more to discuss.

So is speaking the truth considered bashing?
