Paramount spent over a year painstakingly restoring this treasured film, using the original nitrate negative along with two fine grain masters made in the 1940s.Each element was carefully scanned using the very latest technology to both preserve the delicate negative and create the best possible digital image. Fortunately, 13 of the 14 reels of the original negative survived, but portions had begun to deteriorate so the best image was selected from one of the three original sources on a shot-by-shot basis. The result is a more vibrant and detail-rich picture that brings this classic to life like never before.Easy buy even if I already have the Blu-Ray with both versions, original black and white and colorized.
I wonder if this edition will also have the colorized version too?!?!
Is this mentioned anywhere?

The 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack includes the black-and-white film in 4K high definition, as well as a colorized version on Blu-ray, along with three special features new to 4K Blu-ray disc: "Restoring a Beloved Classic," "Secrets from the Vault," and "It's A Wonderful Wrap Party." A 2-Disc Blu-ray set will also be available that includes the newly remastered film in black-and-white, along with a colorized version and the three special features listed above.
Yeah, I can't wait to see it.Thanks @C.C. 95 !
So there’s no Colorized 4K version, just the B/W 4K, which is good (although I would had preferred both in 4K UHD HDR).
I think that the B/W 4K would be AMAZING in HDR!
Maybe B/W HDR will be something similar with the "chrome" editions of Logan and Mad Max Fury Road,Yeah, I can't wait to see it.
It warms my heart that they toiled over the original Nitrate print for over a year - as opposed to just ripping some answer print to get it it out there and make some dough.
It sounds like they have really done the work to make this a great 4K transfer.
I don't think I have ever seen a B/W film HDR'ed! Very curious as to what that will look like!
I imagine the contrast will be off the hook!
So one point plus for this one, since there's no "conversion" involved, right?Well this was shot in b/w, Logan and Mad Max Fury weren't.....
I wasn't aware that MM:FR was released in 4K Chrome edition.Tough call. Since MM and Logan were shot in color first - the question is when did they do the HDR pass for B/W versions? Before B/W grading or after?
*note - I'm pretty psyched: I'm seeing MM:FR Black and Chrome on the big screen on Sunday!![]()

Movie theater showingHow big is the screen?
And is @home (cinema) or in theater?
Sorry- MM B&C was not released in 4K.I wasn't aware that MM:FR was released in 4K Chrome edition.
Do you have a link for it, please?
I only have Logan, which, for me is WAY BETTER movie in all aspects, starting with story. Sure, I think MM:FR is little better in picture and scenery (images depicted), but still I would watch Logan every month and still not had enough, wile MM:FR I don't think I've yet watched it at home, after saw it in IMAX and purchase it.
And back to the thread, I REALLY WISH and would be ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL if they WILL actually release the 4K HDR colorized version too for this ALL TIME FAVORITE and BELOVED movie - It's a Wonderful Life!
Nice to have cinemas that runs older (but not too old) and "famos" titles.Movie theater showing

I'm sure you'll enjoy it quite a bit!![]()
Yet, I'd bet (although not usually do betting) you'll like it more to see this on my 150 inch diagonal from ~3,8-4 meters (12,5-13 feet) away, in a light semi-controlled environment with Atmos, even if not 4K or cinema showing!Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. They are showing the color version of MM:FR the night before on 35mm.
(I already saw that on 35mm when it was released. But this is probably the only time I will have a chance to see Black & Chrome on a big screen - so I am doing that instead)
One of the big problems with colorization- is they use a computer to suss what colors were used in the production.I wasn't aware that MM:FR was released in 4K Chrome edition.

I completely agree that a post processing and especially a colorization of a movie must be done ONLY by specialists that know EXACTLY what they're doing and do the best possible for the technology available at that time. Any other "specialists" should be just banned for even attempt doing such things, IMHO.One of the big problems with colorization- is they use a computer to suss what colors were used in the production.
The issue is - when they shot for B/W they chose wardrobe and set colors for how they will look...in B/W!
If they were going to shoot in color they would have made different choices.
Example: a computer colorized version of PSYCHO would match the blood in the shower scene as BROWN - since they used chocolate syrup for The way it looked in B/W. This would be correct - and also VERY WRONG!
I have 75" Sony Z9D* light cannon - so I do fine!Yet, I'd bet (although not usually do betting) you'll like it more to see this on my 150 inch diagonal from ~3,8-4 meters (12,5-13 feet) away, in a light semi-controlled environment with Atmos, even if not 4K or cinema showing!![]()
