Most of us ideally want to be able to play the movies we buy in these premium editions but realistically, we're not paying all this money for the movie as we can get it relatively cheap sourced locally. We're paying for the steelbook and the extras that come with it so all this complaining about region locked discs is abit of a mute point really

Yeah not to mention many keep theirs sealed anyway.

Exactly. I got my LG region free player off Amazon about 6 years ago for £200 but they're dirt cheap today by comparison. I think people should consider themselves lucky to be able to have the region free discs included in these foreign releases when they are actually included instead of complaining when the odd one is actually locked

+1. Region coding is still relaxed on Blu-rays as opposed to DVDs. You can still see new DVDs priced around £10 and it is sad people complain about 4K UHD costing double when it includes the standard Blu-ray as well. Once 4K UHD becomes mainstream, we are going to see the standard Blu-rays being excluded just liike the long forgotten Double Play and Triple Play editions.

Region coding is not a deal breaker for me.

Yeah def a pain if you don't have region free players, but retailers for films are approved to sell within their own territories per licensing agreements. The studio controls the locking or unlocking based on those rights, and the retailer cannot affect this.

More complaining: I hope it is not a new trend to reserve more copies for the One Click sets than sell as individual editions. It's 400 OCs vs. 200 FS, 300 LS, 300 Special Boxes for this release. Take away the copies from the various GBs and you're left with an even lower quantity for the singles. I guess it will be extremely difficult to order just one copy on the 17th.
Manta should reconsider the allocations between the editions. Especially with such a low overall print run of just 2.000 steelbooks OCs shouldn't take up more stock than what is available for each individual edition. Most people seem to go for only one or maybe two single options. I will certainly not start buying OCs only to have a better chance of getting the one edition I actually desire the most. Here's me hoping La La Land and Wonder Woman are exceptions and Manta increase the numbers for individual copies to more reasonable levels with their next release(s).

RE: REGION CODING: As we know one of the big advantages of the inclusion of a 4K UHD LA LA LAND disc in this packages would've been that the disc could be played no matter where you are with none of this annoying locking business . . .

. . . as confirmed a while ago with from studio sources and the UHD Alliance that Ultra HD Blu-ray will not employ region coding or region locking. This means that, no matter where you live on the planet, you should be able to import UHD discs from overseas with ease (the only catch being the available language and subtitle options on the title).

^ As Manta Lab is in Hong Kong maybe not unusual that it is region "A" although granted 'tis a bitter pill to swallow if all previous ML releases have been region free . . .

Anyway,

Only an advantage of having a Uhd blu ray copy included would be for anyone who has a uhd blu ray player which not that many people do.

Tell you what would've been a big advantage, if the disc was actually region free cause we ALL have blu ray players

Region coding aside, its not Mantas fault.. Not all films can be region free. I think Manta are making a good move with these limited print runs though, alot of their early releases took ages to sell out. Keep the runs low, raises desirability and promotes faster sell outs

Yeah it’s nothing to do with Manta, it’s down to the film studio that has owebrrship over that movie in that particular territory.

Besides, what you have to remember is that Manta are in Hong Kong so technically all they have to do is ensure that the BDs they are lease are compatible with their own region - region A. The fact that they try and release/or do release region free BDs is a bonus.

The whole argument too of not being multi region......you can pick up multi region BD players now for the same price as a one click box set. They are small players and take up little room. I know some people don’t want the added ‘struggle’ of another player, but considering the price of them and what we spend money on, it’s a very small compromise to make.

I get where you’re coming from on the relative inexpense of a multiregion player, i’ve owned a few in my time.... but after shelling out £££’s on a high end 4K player (that will also upscale my BD’s and play my 3D discs) I simply don’t want yet another box to sit alongside it under my tv. One box to rule them all if you like ;)

Manta (or any seller) should just let their customers know if a disc is locked prior to purchase
