Word of caution from an UK HDN Member about HMV (thanks VRob98)

HMV now in administration said:
People should just be aware of 2 things:

1) If you receive a damaged or faulty copy from now on, you will not receive a replacement or refund

2) If they charge your card and are then unable to fulfil your order, you will not be refunded.

The way a company operates whilst under administration is quite different to how it operates normally, and certain consumer rights are suspended. If anything goes wrong you would have to apply to the administrator or claim against your credit card issuer.

I'd encourage everyone who has orders in with HMV to consider the above, as I'd hate to see anyone here lose their money in all of this.

Available to pre-order right now.
Release date: January 28, 2013

Excellent news!

i preordered from hmv but i've ordered this from amazon as well, highly unlikely antbody will be getting this from hmv, however, if pigs actually do fly, and this gets dispatched by hmv, then there should be time to cancel my order with amazon before it gets dispatched............

same here, i am hoping for Zavvi step there game up and start shipping steelbooks in new packaging so we don't have to do this in future. I've already sent them an email about that hopefully if there get enough emails about the packaging maybe there'll take note now or would Wreck maybe able to help in this matter.

Just contacted amazon.co.uk

They won't do a price match with The Hut..

The harsh reality is that, outside of chart titles that the supermarkets take, we probably won't see much competitive pricing from Amazon anymore. Mainly because there is hardly any competition in the UK.

They won't see the Hut as a threat so they can now sit back and enjoy the benefits of having helped destroy the UK market with help from the supermarkets and the government. They are not a business understanding to the needs of their customers in the current financial climate, they are a global corporation who want your money - and as much of it as they can get.

So going forward we should probably accept that the days of more affordable steels are behind us and be prepared to pay the price which perhaps they would have been all along without the efforts of Play and HMV. We'll just have to see how it plays out

I hope Zavvi can step up to the plate. Don't forget this time last year we were all worrying whether our steels would get to us in one piece from Play. But with help and hard work from the mods here they managed to turn that around. I'm sure the same could happen for Zavvi with some time invested.

Main thing for me is that there are still steelbooks to collect. Price isn't the biggest factor when it comes to my choosing what title I want. But undamaged is a huge preference.

I placed order with Amazon before I read this thread. So I cancelled my order and ordered from Zavvi along with the Lawless. So far my experience with Zavvi has been good. Ordered 8 steelbook including Ted when it was out at Amazon. All steels arrived in mint condition. They also arrived faster than Amazon UK. Don't know how they can do that by charging only £0.99 shipping fee to California, USA. Most importantly they ship to USA unlike Play.

Thanks for that.
I've cancelled my Amazon order, and gone with The Hut then.

:ohno:

^ I totally agree. I prefer my steelbooks to be undamaged so for the sake of a measly £3 I think I'll keep my order with Amazon because of their far superior packaging thank you very much :naughty:

Zone - but HMV were charging 18 GBP for this item the whole time they were taking orders and Amazon is now also just charging 18 GBP. Unless I am mistaken with extra charges you may get when ordering within the UK.

I know Amazon started at what will likely be retail after the pre-order period but give them some leeway they corrected it in 24 hours. I understand about being worried about no competition but for now their pricing didn't seem to have been worse than before

Yep, fair comment that they did drop on this one. But my concern is regarding the long run and I'm interested to see how they behave with their pricing strategy going forward.

As much as the next person I hope they come good, but the UK retail market has pretty much collapsed in the space of a week and I'll probably remain somewhat concerned over the next few releases, and also the deeper catalogue pricing, as we see how the market settles with a lack of strong competition.

Amazon chat just confirmed that, as The Jerico posted, they will not pricematch and don't have a pricematch policy??

They don't, but they have an option to contact them if you have seen a cheaper price elsewhere. It's unlikely they'll price match The Hut Group as they often distribute from abroad so they don't have to charge VAT, hence the cheaper prices.
