Word of caution from an UK HDN Member about HMV (thanks VRob98)

People should just be aware of 2 things:

1) If you receive a damaged or faulty copy from now on, you will not receive a replacement or refund

2) If they charge your card and are then unable to fulfil your order, you will not be refunded.

The way a company operates whilst under administration is quite different to how it operates normally, and certain consumer rights are suspended. If anything goes wrong you would have to apply to the administrator or claim against your credit card issuer.

I'd encourage everyone who has orders in with HMV to consider the above, as I'd hate to see anyone here lose their money in all of this.

Do these rules apply to international customers too? Because I have just placed an order for Skyfall steelbook and don't want to take any chances. If it holds true for everyone, then I might as well cancel my order and get it from elsewhere.

Popped into HMV Staines earlier this evening and was told that Looper will be available on 28th January and will be £14.99, unless there is a change of plan.

At least your stores weren't closed down Staff over here were pretty much told to bugger off and all the shops were closed. Staff are still trying to get last months wages plus money owed to them from the xmas holiday period. Most stores here are having staff sit-in protests. It's terrible

Since distributors usually supply all goods on a credit account basis, and seeing as they know HMV aren't in any position to settle accounts or pay invoices, I think it's a fairly safe bet that they won't be getting any.

Not that the staff will have been told this, of course...

As mentioned in the Who Framed Roger Rabbit thread, Zavvi confirmed the following via their Twitter...

We are currently testing out a couple of different packaging methods and hopefully this will make big changes to our orders.

I'm guessing Play have definitely been an inspiration, and not to mention our community, who have made the effort to request better packaging/service.

Let's just hope they stay true to their word and we see some improvements.

If I was an accounts manager at the packaging manufacturer who supplied Play and I learned I'd just lost them as an account, I would be on the phone pronto to Zavvi to offer my wares.

Hopefully they'll end up using something very similar to Play, which would be great

I ordered from amazon with free delivery so it will get posted on the releade date rather than to arrive for the release date so that is hmv do send them out (which they wont) then i still have a few days to cancel the amazon order, but if they are all cancelled, then i will jst keep my amazon order and will just arrive on the wednesday rather than the monday release date

Zavvi are... infamous. If ever I had a choice between ordering from them or somebody else, it'd be somebody else. Things take a long time to get posted, a long time and a half to turn up and packaging is really hit or miss. Mostly miss.

Still, I'm at least willing to give them a shot if it means helping out this hobby long-term. Let's face it, if they don't see good numbers, they have no reason to continue doing steelbooks.

From what I've heard, Play picked up their game considerably in 12 months, so I'm hoping we can motivate Zavvi to do the same.

Plus, I'm not ordering from Amazon if their reason for not price matching comes down to tax. As if they can talk about that.

Beware of Zavvi packaging. Dont want to end up with damaged steel. Amazon is safer, but is it worth the £3 more
