Word of caution from an UK HDN Member about HMV (thanks VRob98)

HMV now in administration said:
People should just be aware of 2 things:

1) If you receive a damaged or faulty copy from now on, you will not receive a replacement or refund

2) If they charge your card and are then unable to fulfil your order, you will not be refunded.

The way a company operates whilst under administration is quite different to how it operates normally, and certain consumer rights are suspended. If anything goes wrong you would have to apply to the administrator or claim against your credit card issuer.

I'd encourage everyone who has orders in with HMV to consider the above, as I'd hate to see anyone here lose their money in all of this.

Available to pre-order right now.
Release date: January 28, 2013
Purchase Link: Amazon.co.uk
Note: No inside art (see post #443)

Excellent news!

well, i for one will be doing my best to spend my money on ways that starve the government of taxes from now on.
ive played by the rules and the companies i loved have been killed off by incompetant running of the country.
so now on, 2nd hand blus only, and imports.
think i will import pretty much everything i can.
fingers crossed at least the scheduled steels will surface, as surely they will be designed, manufactered, pressed and ready to ship.
i dont think there will be any more going forward though.
2013 will probably turn out to the the uks worst ever year for steels, highlighted by 2012 being the best year.
well, lets hope canada have some waves (actually, no, scrap that. there packaging is dire, and only 1in6 steels from them isnt bent and twisted lol)
our ONLY hope is that amazon see the gap in the market and match their german site for output.
the only downside is that amazon are known for low quality steels, usually with printed backs and no inside artwork.
i can see all those play exclusives rocketing in value now the well has dried.

It is more expensive than HMV.

Yes this version from Amazon.co.uk is more expensive than HMV ,. but with seemingly no guarantee from HMV that pre orders will definitely be fulfilled...
when i compare this version to the french steelbook including shipping .. there would be no difference in price for me.. so i would rather go for the one which includes something extra1

For what it's worth, this article does say that HMV intends to fulfill current preorders. What that will actually mean in practice, I don't know.

The main sentence says HMV intends to honour pre orders
the qoute is as such
" We would intend to honor all pre orders "
the inclusion of the word intend ... does not instill confidence in me as its not a very solid statement .. they would intend ..not going to honour ..
its their intention to honor all pre orders...though it implies a possibility /probability that they may be unable to actually follow through with their intention .
Look at the situation with the refusal to accept the already paid for gift cards..
people who got those for christmas now only own a piece of plastic worth nothing and the people who bought them have no recourse to obtain a refund.
The reason being that once HMV went to Administration the administrators themselves are not obligated to fullfill the promises of the company which they are now administrating

Don't Amazon have a price match policy?

Probably won't do it now HMV are in administration and have a decent monopoly. We've created a monster!

That is the problem, there is no one to price match too. I fear higher priced steelbooks will become the norm now from Amazon. If there is no competition surely they can charge whatever they want.:(

Unfortunately it probably means higher priced everything. With the exception of the chart titles which the supermarkets carry I would expect all other prices to go up in time. And when was the last time a steel made it into the supermarket charts? :(

Yep I don't think I have even seen a Steelbook in Asda. It's looking more and more like import will be the only way to get hold of a lot of stuff now unfortunatly. This pricing is also in line with the Sweeney so perhaps that is a new standard price point for Steels from Amazon.

The HMV website has now gone so it's not possible to cancel orders.

Anyone concerned about their credit card still being charged should contact their issuing bank.

Gulp, glad I got in early this morning, cancelled my order and got confirmation via e-mail the cancellation was complete. :ohno:

Holy crap :O good thing I cancelled my order last night!

well amazon can stick it their ar*e, not paying £20.99 for it, no way.
well, its now time to drop the 'great' from 'britain'.
we are on the way to being a 3rd world country.
probably time to jack in collecting steelbooks and just go 'digital'.
i need a new hobby, one the government can't ruin.
or a new country of residence lol.
im so sick of this country getting worse and worse in every way, the last good thing in it has now all but been destroyed. grrrrr.

Bollocks. I didn't cancel my orders. What exactly will my bank be able to do?

Depending on the bank, they may issue you a new account number so your old account number used on the website, when charged is no longer active.

There may be a way for you to request that they don't accept any charges from HMV.com

It's probably best to contact your bank directly and see what they can tell you.

yeah they cant charge if they have no intention of supplying. that is theft, and illegal.
if the site is down, and stays down, then they won't charge.
2013 - 13 =unlucky
play.com =1
hmv=2
so 18 more places to close?
the high street can die now for me, i have pretty much no cause to visit town now.
and with little to spend my wages on, what point is there to go to work.
