The wrestler steelbook full slip was fatter than the ammaray version, but this is just as fat so i guess this will have a pretty large booklet compared to The Wrestler...

This is one of the nicest slips i have seen tbh, very glad PA take so much time on these and care about the releases just as much as we do! Well done PA

Oh, my god.

Literally if this doesn't sell out now, I don't know what PA has gotta do.

What a beautiful unique, mesmerizing artwork.

I just want to order 100 pieces and make a wall of them in my livingroom!

PA!

I said it already earlier, I award you retailer/merchant of the year!

Stunning design, really stunning!

I love PA and everything they have done so far, but I can suppose two reasons that this won't sell out (or won't sell out quickly):

1. It's not a steelbook. There are collectors who will only touch a release if it comes in steel.

and the bigger reason...

2. It's a Lars von Trier film. So it isn't well known and some people don't enjoy this movie.

Back to the good stuff...watching that video the thing that popped out to me was the "Hot stamping aqua blue foil on title calligraphy, movie quote and PA logo." The hologram on the planet is cool, but the foil effect on the writings is like

Also, I think the turning point for PA will be their next release. If they put as much effort into ZDT (and do it in steelbook) and THAT doesn't sell out, then I will start questioning our fellow collectors. If PA puts out an Oscar-winning film, in steelbook, with all of this special treatment, collectors would have to be silly to pass that up.

some reasons why this WILL sell out (not as fast as frozen or a marvel film, but still, sooner or later it will be gone):

* i can see quite a bunch of completist collectors here, who don't want to miss out on PA#1 when they already have PA#2.
* very low print run, compared to the wrestler, which was a total of 5k (2k full slip, 1k 1/4 slip, 1k keep-case, 800 non-exclusive for korean stores, rest possibly for replacements). melancholia is only 1k in total.
* there is not only a market for exclusive steelbooks, but also for slipcovers. not as large as for SB, but some collectors just go nuts for a rare slip.
* the overall package we get here from PA which looks truly stunning in pictures and the video.

PA pretty much put me onto South Korean slip releases, and since then I've almost become put off by Steelbook collecting. Don't get me wrong, I still like Steelbooks, but what PA (and others) do with paper is absolute magic. Also, I'm becoming more and more irritated with the culture of Steelbooks. There are so many releases now, so many of which are totally lacklustre, and despite this they'll still sell out and get put on the secondary market for ludicrous prices just because they're Steelbooks.

I collect films for the films themselves. Nice packaging is icing on the cake. A part of me is actually glad the PA releases aren't selling out after a day (not that I don't want them to do well). Maybe I'm just naive, but for me it shows the people who are buying their products are in it for the films themselves or just love really high quality products.

Total newbie to overseas purchasing here hence what most likely will sound like an obvious question, but can anyone from the UK tell me when buying stuff from overseas such as this, when do you pay import duty/tax? What happens? Do you have to go to the post office and pay to collect? Do they notify you or something? Really want this but want to know where I stand before I commit to purchase. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, no one who has ordered from PA got charged with customs.

They even say on their website that they will be customs friendly but officially do not support it because of laws.

But they value the package at 20 dollars, I live in Holland, have ordered from them 3x and didn't get any custom charges at all.

Anubis is right, if in the notes during checkout on Plain Archives site you ask them to provide a customs friendly service then they undervalue your items for you, therefore you should have to pay no customs, but not gauranteed ;)

If however you should unluckily get stung with import taxes, you will find out by a letter in the post showing your customs charges, you can then either pay online and usually have it delivered the next day, or you could go down to your local post office depot and pay there and take the items away with you...

Search "duty calculator" into google and go to dutycalculator's website to work out the customs fees that would have to be paid if you did get customs fees... Remember though, Royal Mail also add an £8 handling fee as well, i think it would work out at about £16 in total for customs fees if you happen to get stung with customs, although if you remember to leave the note in the PA checkout then you should be ok... ;)

Realistically, I could only hold out on this for so long. It's a blind buy as far as the film is concerned, but after watching the video, I couldn't not own this... And it will take pride of place next to my Wrestler full slip :D

I was thinking about this one again, since it's still available, wondering if I would really want it once the inevitable steelbook comes out somewhere (like I am wondering obut my prior Schindler's List purchases). But I just saw the video too. Great embossing and shinyness on the slip. The booklet should be really good for this artsy film. Hopefully the film itself is done with enough modernness to make me like it for being artsy. Keeping my order after that video. This should be really impressive in-hand.
