Now's your chance to own a piece of limited edition cinema history. On 22nd November our editions of the restored and reconstructed Metropolis will be released on DVD and Blu-ray.

With its dizzying depiction of a futuristic cityscape and alluring female robot, Metropolis is among the most famous of all German films and the mother of sci-fi cinema (an influence on Blade Runner and Star Wars, among countless other films). Directed by the legendary Fritz Lang (M, Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse,The Big Heat, etc.), its jaw-dropping production values, iconic imagery, and modernist grandeur – it was described by Luis Buñuel as "a captivating symphony of movement" – remain as powerful as ever.

Along side the standard DVD and Blu-ray editions we will be releasing a limited edition dual format Steelbook. Over the next 48 hours we are giving away a FREE Metropolis T-shirt with every pre-order for this very limited dual format release. T-Shirts will be shipped within 14 days and you will be guaranteed early delivery of the steelbook. The set comes with 3 discs, 1 x Blu-ray and 2 x DVD, special features are listed below.

Picked one up still sealed off grapey (thanks :D) for £45, a very reasonable price i think compared to what ebay has been producing :D :D :D

This will depend on how many of the last remaining stock got destroyed in the London fire?
Do not think that many sold via retailers before this happened though so the amount in circulation will be a mystery?

This was on sale for like 12 months right?

Could we venture to guess 1500-2000 might have been sold or is that seem to high for a title like this?

12 months sounds about right for shelf life.
I am pretty sure that Eureka put out the same amount per run per title.
If we can get an idea how many they have released for their latter titles it should give us a rough idea.

I couldn't imagine them making any more than the min run on these titles. They know they don't sell fast and they wouldn't want to hold too much stock as it just costs money and it takes up space.

Imagine an Eureka Representative member posting here and there, how cool would that be ;)

With as many of their steelbooks I own I should be promoted as one. :hilarious:

Sooner or later some people are going to get into collecting and want to buy MOC releases. They are gonna need to complete the set. If anyone is sitting on the fence and gets a chance to pick one of these up for under $100 I say jump on it IMO.

I'm going to assume I can't post links to another Blu-Ray forum site...

I knew I'd read information on the size of the runs, but it took quite a bit of hunting - finally (on page 185 of a thread on Eureka/MoC!) found a quote from the Eureka rep confirming what I remembered (that Metropolis had a run of ten thousand, and Silent Running/Touch of Evil four thousand each). Here's the line, complete with amusing autocorrect typo:

<<There were about 1000 units left in stick at the time of the fire making metropolis limited to 9k, both touch and silent are 4k>>

I'll also add that I got into steelbooks via the MoC steels (and the Eureka one for Shogun Assassin) - they're some of my favourites.

I just got one from ebay for about 30 Euro (~37 $) in mint condition :scat:

10,000 is one hell of a run for an obscure title like Metropolis think maybe 4-10k max is more realistic.
I was gonna sell mine on ebay but have a feeling like Chip stated in a year or 2 people will really want this to complete the Eureka collection just like the Criterion collectors did with the first edition of Salo on dvd (Yeah I was one of those guys) Think I will keep mine a bit longer.

Have no idea why my cut and paste failed. Here's the quote from the Eureka rep:

"There were about 1000 units left in stick at the time of the fire making metropolis limited to 9k, both touch and silent are 4k"

Not sure if you're doubting the correctness of my information, but if so, I've given the info you need (it's the Blu-Ray dot com Eureka/MoC thread) to go check it yourself in context. They made 10 thousand and sold the majority (around 90%) of them.
