I seem to be permanently in the camp that hates poster art for steelbooks. That's why I like the Mondo steels, as they always stylise the themes of the movie and create something original. Save the poster art for the amaray.

I think the art is almost Saul Bass-like, perfectly in keeping with the twisted, sociopathic nature of Gyllenhalls character in the film. And the camera as the eye is a bit obvious, but again very thematically accurate.

I know what you mean and I do like to see something other than poster art on steels too. In my opinion this isn't bad artwork if it were a one-sheet but considering the practicalities of a steelbook this artwork will just will most likely result in a steelbook that is mostly bare metal. For me that's incredibly boring, a bit like the 'A Place Beyond the Pines' steel.

for me, that art would be cool if it was the LEFT inside art .... so when i open it up I see that on left and disc on right. I dont mind the artists work it looks good ... but maybe if it was more collage themed on front with diff things happening it would have a cooler effect.

I get that completely; the finish and back art are going to be the real decider for a lot of people I think. There's been quite a few just in the last year (Xmen and Wolf of Wall Street for example) that have really won me round once they've been released and I can see how well finished they are. In contrast, you have something like Godzilla which really disappointed me after looking great in all the advertising.

There has to be a certain irony in saying you hate poster art for Steelbooks and then like Mondo Steelbooks, even though Mondo uses poster art for their steels. And while I grant Mondo uses their own designs for posters, there's nothing to say any studio couldn't produce similar quality work. Of course Mondo came about because they did not like the poster work studios were performing. So perhaps your on to something :)

Yeah, I should have been clearer :). I meant using poster art that's already most associated with the film, or the regular art used on most of the advertising. Mondo posters, let's be honest, aren't really widely known of or used outside of real fan communities and are usually pretty limited in their print run. Hence, more unique and desirable as a steel :)

Would have preferred one of the amazing posters with a bit of spot gloss...

I'd buy a glossy version of the first or third in an instant.

I haven't seen the film, but am I the only one who thinks this steelbook looks horrendous? Looks like it was designed by a teenager (who's not very artistic) and by the look of the mock up, it will be a bare metal background.

If you followed the thread you'd see lots of people saying it looks awful.

Can't believe Gyllenhaal got snubbed with the Oscar noms. Maybe he was so good in Nightcrawler that they didn't even recognise him.
He was my first pick to win best actor, and I think it was one of the biggest snubs this year. All signs point to Michael Keaton taking it on oscar night. My hope though, is that Benedict Cumberbatch wins it, it is a long shot, but, never underestimate Harvey Weinstein, the so called 'Oscar Whisperer'. lol

eOne for sales should have made this available to all retailers
They will have a better chance of selling out if they did
eOne on play.com they only ship to customers in the UK

With lot of customers who purchase steelbooks live outside of the UK they are limiting sales

Entertainment Store struggled to sell the previous exclusive steelbooks from eOne as some were available only to UK customers if they had of made available to all UK retailers they would have sold lot more

If this was available from amazon.uk and Zavvi and other retailers it would sell out

If they wanted to do a retailer exclusive they should have picked Zavvi or Amazon.uk as both of these ship worldwide and have lots of already repeat customers

I would prob order this if it was on Amazon (As I have vouchers).

BUT I will prob hold off getting this as I reckon there will be better verison of this somewhere.

(If Dallas buyers club and American hustle got premium shyt I expect this to)
