this movie made $38 million worldwide. I don't think that qualifies as real popular. I love it, as I'm sure many people on HDN do. But, it can't become a cult classic, until people see it. And, I doubt many people that haven't seen it, will be buying this. Of, course, that is IMHO. I could always be wrong

Well Said Sir Well Said

I am in , for Sure

I have no problem with this artwork. It's professionally created for the film poster and to me perfectly represents the film.

What does this close up of the face pic represent from the movie ? Even though it has been made as a movie poster or on a Blu-ray also, it does not necessarily mean that it is a nice Artwork. It is not because someone designed this Poster and the studio approved it, that it makes it a well suited picture that represent the movie well, many marketing projects are often not well put together and people end up approving them for whatever reason, they pass when they should not !? Companies often make misguided or bad decisions all the time ! When we look at a movie poster or a blu-ray cover, it is supposed to give us a feel of the Movie, a hint of wonder, a glimpse of it... this ''face close up'' does nothing to bring our imagination to a place that makes us want to see that movie.

I wonder how many people just saw this movie poster of the ''oh so close up face Pic'' and said to himself

''wow that looks like an interesting movie !!! ''

I just don't think that many people were grabbed by this poster to make them want to go see this movie (talking face shot alone)...

what does it tell us ?

Just my opinion. As you are entitled to yours. But as you ask here are my feelings on it.

I think this is a great piece of art actually. It has mystery but its pulp stylings tell us something about the world of the film. The focus is indeed on the character's face but the composition suggests something of his motivation and narcissism.
The city of LA (yes that's in the poster too) is his focus but also his mask. I also like the image on purely aesthetic terms. The tight framing is bold and the colours pleasing.

An effective poster doesn't have to tell all of the story to be successful. Even more so these days as we are bombarded by trailers, articles etc. this is just part of the marketing.

Have you ever heard the expression 'less is more'?

I have to say I really love this artwork. Not massive on the back but still good. I've always loved that poster art since I see it but I already own the HMV version which is still kinda a nice edition with cool spot gloss and and inside art.
If I had the mullar I would get this though.

The front art completely represents the film in art and tone. As for posters, I like some hate others, but I've never not seen a film because the poster didn't convey anything about the film.

This is not the 1950’s. Most people do not make decisions on movies based solely on the movie poster.

This was not the point I was trying to make, of course I won't not go see a movie if I am interested because I don't like a certain movie poster, all I was saying is that a face shot does not represent from my point of view which I saw the movie twice, anything about this movie. If you look at back artwork, it does have the vibe of the movie, the artwork represent well the movie. For the Front Artwork, I think they could be a bit more imaginative and come up with something that has elements of the movie within it...so many other pictures about this movie that would actually represent it well, and they chose an extremely close face shot... I just like to buy products ''that are creative'' and that we feel that love and care was put into it, but this is far from being the case here.

I adore the front artwork. I loved it from the first seeing on the Keep Case and wished for a Steel or Digibook with this used.
For me it represents perfect this contemporary film noir. The night shadowy photographed LA and this driven loner, this creepy relaxed guy.
I know a lot folk don't like the big head covers but with this one I'm selfish and I'll totally get what I wanted

I will never understand why they left him out at the Oscars. His performance screams for Best Male Actor. Even when they chose Redmaynes performance
over his, a nomination was the least they could do.

Yeah, that oscar was his. Redmayne got it for playing a... Well, you know, what Winslet said.
