I got my "Dances with Wolves" Steel today and had no problem peeling off the ratings sticker, but I know sometimes there are issues. So I thought I'd add a thread so everyone can post what they use to remove pricing, rating and whatever other stickers from their Steebooks (that is, if you unwrap them, of course).

Enjoy, and thanks for taking the time to post your own tips.

best thing is hot water...put hot water on it and within few minutes u can start removing it without any trouble.no damage will be done to steelbook. :D

Thanks for the advice contained here.

Just received my Gladiator steel from Germany, and removing the FSK sticker left a fair amount of residue. Tried using the sticker itself to remove it, but with little success.

Used butter as suggested in this thread, and that was very effective in removing the majority. Then ran it under hot water to get rid of the tiny amount that remained.

Does anyone else use lighter fluid? The stuffs great as it breaks up the gum really easily then you can gently wipe with a tissue.

I also use the stickers themselves to remove reside but that is hit or miss. If gum remains the lighter fluid will always be the answer! :)

I see some of you guys use the hot water method. I use this for other things to remove sticks from like plates/bowls etc.

Just to be sure (even though some of you already said so), this method doesn't do any damage/warping/paint issue to the steel if I run some hot water over it or dip it in some hot water?

Do the rating logo stickers from UK steelbooks like the Warner classic ones (The Maltese Falcon, North by Northwest, etc.) leave any residue behind? I just got part of my order today and wanted to make sure on how to take them off before I tried.

A little bit. I always just tap the sticky side of sticker on top of the residue and it always takes it off for me.

Help

Hi fellas, need some advice please:

I opened the other day my recently acquired John Carter (FS edition). The blue envelope that contains the digital copy and that is usually tucked between the back of the steelbook/vmb and the j-card was stuck to the back.

I pulled gently until I managed to take it out. There are some marks left from that digital copy, in a circular form (the shape of the disc from the envelope obviously).

Long story short, I tried the "butter treatment" but sadly it didn't work. I also tried rubbing alcohol but it also didn't help. :(

Has anyone had to deal with this before and managed to fix it?

I've managed to grab some pics showing the issue. Appreciate any input. Tried butter a second time and left it on for a few hours but it didn't make any difference...

I fear that this may be a discolouration of the steelbook? Because when I slide my finger over that area, I don't feel any difference from the rest of the steelbook.

Thoughts?

It appears to be "glue stains"
Here in Brazil we have a product called TIRA GRUDE/TIRA COLA.
In rough translation is "glue remover".
I always use it when there is this little "glue stains" and never had a problem.
See if you have there a remover and use it.

If you need to remove price tag, I've use a hair dryer to heat up the sticker then slowly remove them. No trace of sticky thing after removed.
Have not try the rating logo yet, maybe I'll try and see if it works too.

Tried this and it helped. Then I used good quality scotch tape and kept dabbing until it all was clear. I know this is an old comment and an old thread but it was still very useful for me when I got my Avatar today from Taiwan that was full of stickers.

Hi Apollon

Have you tried using tape ?

Something that's sticky and stick it over the problem area then the tape will/might lift the residue left over from the j-card. It worked for me on the german FSK sticker steelbooks.
