Star Wars Saga pre-order link live now!​

"The most anticipated Blu-ray release ever -- the Star Wars Saga -- emerges from light speed this September 2011. For the first time, all six of George Lucas' epic films (Episodes I-VI) are united in one complete set. Fans worldwide are able to pre-order now with online retailers.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Star Wars in three distinct sets to meet the needs of every Star Wars fan:

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (9-disc Set includes all six films)
Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III)
Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)
Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation, along with three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will be available for $139.99 US/$179.99 CAN and the Star Wars: Trilogy Sets for $69.99 US/89.99 CAN. Pricing for each set will vary by international territory.

Flanked by a legion of his finest Imperial stormtroopers, Darth Vader himself joined Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment President Mike Dunn at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to announce the release, vowing "The forces of the Empire will be at your disposal to assure the success of this endeavor."

"The Star Wars Saga is the most anticipated Blu-ray collection since the launch of the high-def format," Dunn said. "The epic franchise pioneered sound and visual presentation in theaters and is perfectly suited to do it again in the home, with a viewing experience only possible with Blu-ray."

"With all six episodes available for the first time in one collection, this is a great way for families and home audiences to experience the complete Saga from start to finish," said Doug Yates, Vice President of Marketing, Online, Distribution, Lucasfilm Ltd. "And with the quality of high-definition, Blu-ray provides the most immersive home experience possible."

"The Star Wars franchise has been the most anticipated Blu-ray release by Amazon's customers," said Bill Carr, Vice President of Music and Video at Amazon.com. "We think that Star Wars will be incredibly popular with our customers, and we expect pre-orders to be very strong.""

The Star Wars saga will at long last be released in a high-definition home video format as all six movies come to Blu-Ray in a Box Set in Fall 2011, as announced by George Lucas this morning at Celebration V. At the fan convention's Main Event, thousands of Star Wars fans braved the muggy heat of an Orlando morning to queue for a one-time only stage session between George Lucas and The Daily Show's Jon Stewart. Stewart asked Lucas questions submitted from the fan community, and one of the most frequently asked questions submitted online prior to the Main Event was about the saga's release on Blu-Ray.
"I wish I could say it was coming out this year," said Lucas, "but it will come out next year."

The set will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films, with the highest picture and audio quality, along with extensive special features.

Star Wars fans were treated to a glimpse of bonus material, in the form of a long-lost deleted scene from Return of the Jedi. The scene has long been talked about online -- a sequence that depicts Luke Skywalker assembling his new, green-bladed lightsaber prior to infiltrating Jabba the Hutt's palace. After completing the Jedi weapon, Luke stashes it in R2-D2's dome. What makes the Jedi deleted clip so remarkable is that it made it all the way to postproduction before it was cut, so it is a rare example of a cut scene with completed visual effects and music.

Actor Mark Hamill came out to describe the scene, remarking that once again his original introduction in a Star Wars film was cut out (his Anchorhead introduction was, of course, cut from A New Hope). Luke's intro is purposely played as ominous, with his face cowled in shadows and his intentions unclear."I had the black cloak, the glove, and I thought, wow, this time around I get to be the antagonist. Little did I know I was predicting the path of the prequels," said Hamill, noting the similarities to Luke in this scene and Anakin Skywalker's appearance.

The original Star Wars was one of the first movies I saw in the theatre. Not sure of my age but it was the original release, may have even been opening weekend.

that's cool. I remember watching it on VHS almost everyday at my Grandma's when I got home from school.

Yes, and I am also teetering on ordering the Black Facehugger and the Polish white box. I don't usually lose my mind like this, but I LOVE this series-as if you couldn't tell. But as the OP of the thread for Star Wars, I don't want to keep us off track. Let the force be with us for these Star Wars releases-I wonder what they'll come up with, for this one

What the hell does this mean excactly?

Maybe the poster is referring to the original version vs the version that had extra CGI added later? I think certain versions of the film only made it to certain types of media (DVD, Laserdisc, etc), and it seems some folks are concerned about which version will be given the Blu-Ray treatment, the first time it makes it to Blu-Ray. I am not well versed in the Star Wars history of the releases at all, but maybe it's the same or similar concern as LOTR Theatrical versus Extended-not sure. Perhaps another Star Wars fan can chime in!

from What I understand only the Special Editions of Star Wars (the Re-released versions) will make it to Blu-ray and the Original Theatrical Cuts will not. Thats how I understood the original Teaser info given a few months back. So, in other words... Greedo will shot First on BD, Not Han.

ya I for one am hoping that original theatrical releases will be available on the Blu but not crossing my fingers. they did a parody on Family Guys "It's a Trap" where they had a live action puppet included in with the annimation and they said something about it being the new material added to the film, hahahaha.

I didn't mind the special editions as much as some but there were some things (Han Solo's head detaching from his head to make it look like Greedo shot first) that should have been left alone. And Hayden Christensen should ABSOLUTELY not be Anakin Skywalker in the ghost scene! I don't have a problem with CGI Jabba the Hut or even the singing and dancing things but screwin with the actual storyline is what bothers me.
