How many people open their Steelbooks when they buy them or do you just leave them sealed.

So far i have 13 Steelbooks and have opened 3 i opened Angels and Demons,Inglorious Bastards and District 9.

I fear if i open my pirates and nightmare before christmas ones i will have to modify them to be able to put the discs in and not have them in a sleeve

Being a Movie Fan and a Collector at the same time isn't easy to combine, so I open all my Steelbooks and I watch them, just to keep them sealed is no option for me ;) But I started now to put them all into protective sleeves, that works out pretty great for me :D

Do you guys who keep them sealed as a collectible worry that their value will eventually have a huge drop off in value because we are living a more and more digital world and the time of tangible media will eventually be replaced by only digital media.

Like DVD's before them they won't be valuable for long but collectors are generally the people who don't like digital media and want something new and shiny to look at as a memento, rather than a file on their hard drive.

I think blu ray is gonna be around for a while. However I don't keep up with all the technology news. So I could be wrong. Although digital media is very popular, a tangible product will always add an element to collecting that cannot be satisfied by digital copies.

Steelbooks aren't just movies. They're artwork.

Yes, it is always possible that there could be a price collapse. If that happens, I will open my steelbooks, enjoy the art, watch the movie, etc. That is not bad too....:D

I'm actually praying for the day when there is no physical format for movies anymore. On that day, the value of steels will absolutely explode IMO. Let me explain. Human beings are a very "physical" species. We like what we can touch, feel, and hold. Let me give you an example. Would you want a credit card, already loaded with 1 million dollars, or would you want a suitcase containing 1 million in cold hard cash? They are both the same value, but which, I ask would be more thrilling? Point proven.

I also don't buy that when blu rays go obsolete, that steels will devalue. On the contrary. I believe people collect the cases, and not the discs. Besides, is their anyone out there that wants to argue that PS3 or X Box 360 games are more collectible and valuable than atari 2600 and NES games?

I am a collector and do not sell any of my Steelbooks. I open, watch, and then store my treasures with the rest of my DVD, Box Sets, and other Blu-Rays. I protect them in special Drawers which are air tight, custom mae for me in order to avoid wear and tear!

I buy the bluray movies that i really like in steelbooks so i can have them in my collection and open them and watch them when ever i want. Of course i keep them in very good condition so they will not be damage.

I think it depends on the edition.

I have two at the moment that I keep sealed: Iron Man 2 Target Exclusive and Heat Premium Collection. All others are open or to be opened.

I may keep some other selaed when I get them, but we'll have to wait and see, sometimes is just too hard not to open it have a look at the disc and the inside arwork, if any.

I open all of mine for sure. They just look sooooo much nicer to me out of the wrapping and the j-cards, and since I've paid for it I'd like to be able to watch the Blu-ray as well :p

But like others I still don't want them to be damaged so I still take the time put them into protective slipcovers so I can happily display them safely and in their full glory

I open them, otherwise I can't admire the artwork with shrink wrap and J cards obscuring it.

Also my other half would take objection to me buying films but not allowing them to be opened!
