How many people open their Steelbooks when they buy them or do you just leave them sealed.

So far i have 13 Steelbooks and have opened 3 i opened Angels and Demons,Inglorious Bastards and District 9.

I fear if i open my pirates and nightmare before christmas ones i will have to modify them to be able to put the discs in and not have them in a sleeve

I have been keeping mine sealed, expect for the ones I bought at Best Buy for $5 doing their upgrade and save program. Question for the more experienced collectors, do steelbooks lose a ton of value when opened even if they are still mint?

I generally keep everything sealed including amarays until I come to watch the film. That way if I decide I bought a dud or come to decide I have no plans to watch the film, it still has some value

The trouble with that is that so many Steelbooks have quality control issues that leaving a Steelbook sealed is a big risk if you ever plan to open them. I avoid buying sealed Steelbooks wherever possible for this reason.

That is an odd reason for not buying steelbooks in sealed condition. I keep most of mine sealed until I'm in the mood of watching them, and for others, I don't even open them because I already have a regular version to watch. :movie:

I voted I fall somewhere in between-I open 50%/keep sealed 50% but that not exactly accurate.

If the price isn't too high, I purchase two, one to open and one to keep sealed. If the price is too high, I keep the steelbook sealed and then purchase an regular plastic case blu to open and watch.

i do not open my steels.
i opened my first two and after i found all these new things from hdn, and saw how many tiny scratches a steel can have by having it on the shelf and taking it every now and then to look at it then i thought id keep them sealed. plus i keep sealed the doubles for trading.
although i am a big fan of unwrapping these so havent decided what i am going to do with my collection copies as yet.

Steelbooks MUST be opened to not only enjoy the artwork of the steelbook and display purposes but also for the actual movie inside the packaging. Never bought a steel for trade or selling for profit...just a genuine movie buff who loves hes movies enough to buy them in the best format and packaging...simple really.

I buy my steelbooks so I have a certain movie in a special edition, because I either love that movie (that's the main reason) or because the steel is just too beautiful not to buy.

So yes, I open all my steels. :)

I only buy steelbooks of movies I have already seen and really liked. So most of my steels end up staying sealed because I have already seen the movie. However, I have no problem opening them up if I wanted to watch the movie again. Having said that, I think I only have one steel I opened myself (and two others I traded for that were already opened)

I open all of mine, they are meant for watching. Leaving them sealed for a profit later, now thats a risky game as most of them will be worth zilch. The odd few might fetch a few hundred quid hardly worth it in my opinion.

Open steelbook is the best steelbook. Not majority of people here agree with this I think.
