How many people open their Steelbooks when they buy them or do you just leave them sealed.

So far i have 13 Steelbooks and have opened 3 i opened Angels and Demons,Inglorious Bastards and District 9.

I fear if i open my pirates and nightmare before christmas ones i will have to modify them to be able to put the discs in and not have them in a sleeve

I haven't opened any of mine. There are only a couple where I have just the Steelbooks and not the Blu-Ray and these I bought just because they were Steelbooks. I can see why people do open theirs but I like to keep mine mint - not that I'd ever sellthem.

I only buy the steelies where I like both the artwork/finishing and the movie itself. And I open all the ones I plan to keep.

I do not open rare ones that I bought earlier. But nowadays I chase for open ones. For example whole Blufans / Kimchi collection will remain sealed. Some old Futureshop and Disney releases will remain sealed as well. For the rest; either I open or I chase the open/mint ones on eBay...

I open all of mine, even if i own the folm already. I only have one sealed steel and thats the HDN exclusive #1 Seven Psychopaths simply because i already own the zavvi one and don't want to have to mess around with the stickers ;)
Its all about your choice though. I open them because i know i'm not going to sell them, so it makes no difference to anyone but me if they are sealed or not, and so i open them.

But like i said, it all depends on you :)

I used to keep mine sealed until I was ready to watch them but for a while now I have opened most of them and I think I'm enjoying collecting even more. When a steel comes with a nice art work and finish you really can't appreciate it until unwrapped, it makes a huge difference.

In my opinion you can watch that movie anyway you like, you can download it from internet or you can buy amaray verisons. So by that way you keep your (precious) steels sealed. Of course its not same for everyone. But that's my opinion.

And if you are a collector you probably would want to keep things as you bought them... That's what I feel for some releases.

This may sound a daft question but I'm curious, I have around 20 Steelbooks at the minute, some are open, some are not.... Do you guys collect these to open and watch the movie or just collect for the rarity and keep them sealed... I have the play.com world war Z, lol the wife wants to watch it, but I don't want to open it haha....

Just open and enjoy them, nothing at the moment, especially new releases, will be anything highly sought now and getting cost price back is proving extremely difficult now.

I open mine. I don't buy doubles unless they have different artwork. I just like to see them out of there packaging. I also don't keep them in protective cases or those sleeves which probably isn't good for them, especially with the rare ones but I like the way they look.

Question, I was talking to another collector recently about the acidic nature of the plastic wrap of our Steelbooks. Is the wrapper material usually acidic so that if you keep the items wrapped for years or cramped up against lots of things it may deteriorate the paint on the Steelbooks?

Is this possible / likely or am I getting paranoid? :p

I've opened all of mine, as I buy them to enjoy the steelbook and movie to the fullest. Love them, can't stand all the slips covering the beautiful artwork.. I considered not opening my blufans and kimchi steels, but I caved quite quickly(i lasted about 5 mins lol),I'm happy to have them all open, I've spent Crazy money on them so to not enjoy the whole experience of them, for me personally I wouldn't be able to justify the money spent . I can understand why collector's keep them sealed.. a stamp collector doesn't buy a rare stamp then lick it and put on a post card.:D

It rather depends in my case. I have several open steels that I have in my playing blu-ray collection, one being the Futureshop Iron Man. But the majority of my steels have not had a fresh breath of air since being sealed at the factory.
