The future of PlayStation is all about great games and entertainment, and at PlayStation Meeting 2013, we brought some of the brightest and most creative minds from the development community on stage to unveil the games that will define PS4. A partial initial lineup for PlayStation 4 includes first-party games from Guerilla Games (Killzone: Shadow Fall), Sucker Punch (inFamous Second Son), Evolution Studios (Driveclub), and Japan Studio (Knack), as well as titles from our partners such as Activision/Bungie (Destiny), Blizzard Entertainment (Diablo III), Capcom (Deep Down), and Ubisoft (Watch_Dogs). PlayStation also reinforced its commitment to self-publishing and the independent development community by having Jonathan Blow onstage who gave a sneak peek of his upcoming title The Witness. Finally, the incredible minds at Media Molecule and Quantic Dream gave glimpses of their conceptualization process and the future of gameplay with some remarkable footage. We only scratched the surface at the event, and will have many more exciting titles to come.

Our next generation console will change the way you interact with friends while you play. PlayStation 4 lets you instantly share images and videos of your favorite gameplay moments on Facebook with a single press on the DUALSHOCK 4 controller’s “share” button. You can also broadcast while you play in real-time through Ustream, allowing friends to comment or jump into your game in new ways.

With PlayStation 4 we also want you to access your games quicker than ever before. PS4’s “suspend mode” eliminates the load time on your saved game and allows you to immediately return to where you left off by pressing the power button. PlayStation 4’s background downloading and updating capability also allows you to immediately play digital titles as they download, or update the system when the hardware is powered off.

DUALSHOCK 4 adopts the familiar form factor of the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller with some key enhancements:
  • - Motion control is enabled by a new highly sensitive six-axis sensor
  • - Dual analog sticks fine-tuned for better precision plus improved surface materials and shape for more delicate manipulation
  • - L2/R2 buttons on the top of the controller employ a curved design for easier, smoother interaction
  • - A new “Options” button combines the functions of the DUALSHOCK 3’s “Select” and “Start” buttons for operating in-game menus

You can see more images of the new DUALSHOCK 4 controller here.

I can't help but question a lot of these negative reviews... they're just BS to me. I agree the main story is pretty weak, but that's a very small part of the game imo. I'm genuinely having the most fun I've had on a game in ages! Pretty much everyone I've spoken to about it is loving it too. I honestly feel sorry for anyone who's judging the game based on those kind of reviews and therefore missing out... I can't promise that you'll love it, but at least give it a try for yourself!

I loved the Alpha and Beta testing of this game and can't imagine the final game being bad. Playing this with my Bro was epic Fun!! Maybe storyline is short, haven't been reading the reviews, but this is more for Online play.

Can someone move this to the proper thread:)

Good point...I guess reviews are just 1 guys opinion vs. someone else. I remember Far Cry 3 multiplayer being slammed by critics and I was addicted to that for a year! I think a lot of reviewers are being more critical/sceptical than usual about Destiny due to the fact that they could not have the reviews done prior to the release date of the game.

Oh yeah, definitely. I don't expect everyone to like the game... I doubt even Bungie themselves expect that. But I get the impression some reviews are being harsh just for the sake of being harsh. I can see why this type of game (Destiny) wouldn't be for everyone though, just like most sports games aren't for me... but I still think they're really well made and do exactly what you'd expect them to do. What I'm saying though is... don't pass on it just because of a few reviews. I'd hate to think some people are missing out on something they'd actually really enjoy!

50 quid tho is a lot of money for many people to take a chance on a game that had zero reviews prior to launch.

True, but the beta was available long enough for people to give it a test run. You can always rent games too, or just buy it and sell/trade it on if you don't like it. I would've missed out on so many great games if I didn't take that chance though.

Sony is raising the price of Playstation Plus in some regions - South Africa, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and India are among some of the regions included in the price increase. Sony has said the increase is due to "market conditions" and has stated that North America will not see an increase in price any time soon. It's unsure if the UK will be affected.

Anyone playing NHL 15 on the PS4 add me and lets some play some hockey!!! PSN handle: "I-AM-GROOT-86".

I suck at PVP being that i haven't really played it all that much since way back on the N64 with Goldeneye, and 3 friends locally. I tried it the first week, got pissd because i suck, haven't been back since. I may try and go there again, as i have to earn like 500 points or something like that, for my Depleted Hand Cannon Exotic Bounty. If it takes me too long to get that many points, i may just abandon it. How many steps are there to this damn bounty anyways?

I usually do. but i didn't pick it up because of them getting rid of game modes.

They patched some of the features in already and a big update coming in Oct sometimes to patch in a good chunk of the rest like 6v6 mode. But I agree what a stinker move by EA this year removing the features.... I actually didnt know when I bought the game until I got home. I need to research more with consoles and video games, seems I have been surprised a lot lately and not in a good way.

Anybody else been enjoying Dust?

Played it for about half an hr or so, I enjoy it (for what that is worth, need more game play lol) between shadow of mordor, school, work, and destiny...leaves me little time for anything else. Evil within coming out, dragon age, lords of fallen, this, so many games lol

Yeah, i just needed a change from Destiny. I tried Spelinker and Pix The Cat, but couldn't get into them. I still have the past few months of PS+ games sitting on my PS3 and VITA waiting to be played, if i ever get the time. As for buying $60 games, i probably won't buy one for a while. I would've bought the new Borderlands if it were coming to PS4 rather than PS3. Pretty soon i'll only have to work 5 days a week and will have more time for games. Even better, at the end of December will be my normal layoff from work time, til about mid March. That's my true gaming season.

Sony has revealed some more details for Firmware 2.0 which will be released soon. You can read the official announcement here.

PS4’s upcoming system software 2.00, codenamed Masamune, adds some big features including Share Play, YouTube support, and Themes - but you'll also have the ability to listen to your music while gaming, the option to change the look of your PS4 experience, and easier ways to sort and filter your library of content on PS4.

Here are some details on a few of the upcoming features:

USB Music Player:
PS4 owners can play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the PS4, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.

Change colours: In addition to the ability to add a theme, PS4 owners can also change the background of the home screen from light blue to one of seven new colors: gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink, and gray.

Players You May Know: PS4 will now suggest players you may know in the ‘What’s New’ section, recommending gamers your friends frequently play with.

Enhancements to Live Broadcasting: Masamune brings a variety of improvements to live broadcasting on PS4. In the Live From PlayStation app, PS4 owners can now select a Featured channel, which includes official broadcasts from PlayStation, broadcasts from people on a players friend list, and any game channel that the player has followed. Additionally, Live From PlayStation now has filters for searching broadcasts on a specific game, as well as support for archived broadcasts.

Content Area and Library: PS4’s Content Area, which shows the latest games and apps a PS4 owner has used, has been redesigned to help make it easier to quickly find and access content. It now shows 15 of a player’s most used apps or games, and additional items will be added to a player’s Library. The Library on PS4 has improved filter and sort functions to help organize contented by type (game / app / TV & video), name (a – z or z – a), recently used, or install date.

Enhanced Voice Commands: The ability to control PS4 using voice has been improved. Players can now say ‘PlayStation’ to begin commands, and ‘All Commands,’ to see a list of all voice command options available. New voice commands were added for live broadcasting, including “Start broadcast,” “End broadcast,” and “Find face.”

Add To Library: The monthly PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive.

Back Up Data: Data on PS4 can be backed up and resorted using USB storage. This will back up all data for the console, including settings, save data, screenshots, video clips, download data, and more.

PS Vita and PS TV – 3.35 update, Live From PlayStation
The PS Vita and PS TV systems will also receive a system software update to version 3.35 with the same timing as Masamune, adding four-player Remote Play support to PS TV. In addition, the Live from PlayStation app, which allows users to watch live gameplay streams from PS4 systems, will be available on both PS Vita and PS TV alongside this update.

PlayStation App 2.0 update
The PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets, available on the App Store and Google Play, is also set to receive an update to version 2.0 within the same launch window as both the PS4 and PS Vita system software updates. This update provides a new layout for tablets, and the app’s home screen has been redesigned.

More info on Masamune and its features will be revealed soon.

^^^^ Thanks for the update info Noodles. But where is the media player for video files?!?!!? Xbone even has it now with there last update.... I want a media player like on the PS3, such a step backward to not include such a basic feature on the PS4.
