Think high price purely down to 3D disc. As said earlier just a fad imo, but have to live with it.

Well then its about time u bought them a PS3, Mr. PS3 Mod ;)]
I have my own PS3 thanks, and they're perfectly happy with their DVD player. :)

On topic... even after all the negative comments regarding this film, I still can't wait to see it for myself! :D

Very nice steelbook! Play.com has brought the UK to the front of the steelbook game! Given how the artwork is the same as the French version expecting a worldwide release!

This is great news and a must buy for me. The art looks great and I didn't mind the film either.

I doubt Play are cashing in on us, more that the costs are high on the 3D version and as Apsmith pointed out that was the only version which could get the steelbook treatment.

I'm just very grateful for a UK steelbook on this and it's safe to say I should get my order dent free too in their packaging

Given the great pricing we are getting from them on the catalogue releases I don't see that £24 is all that excessive on a blockbuster. And with the limited runs Play do on their steels I wouldn't be surprised if this one doesn't stay available until release date either

I'm sorry but I am still skeptical. Everyone keeps ranting on about how a 3D seriously bumps up the price of these items so can you explain why I paid £17.99 for Immortals which was a triple play with 3D on the site and HMV is currently listing Wrath of the Titans for £18 with 3D included.

Both of these releases were new and both have the 3D versions included in a steelbook. Anything over £20 which isn't a trilogy or boxset IMHO is too pricey. And before anyone suggests I am saying this because I bulk buy, this is not the case. I generally only buy for my own collection. Sadly if this is a sign of the times, as with everything else, I will only be able to buy a few steelbooks in the future! :(

I think pre-orders for Immortals wasn't great as the mysterious artwork was causing concern but when released many agreed it was a good set and the steelbook is quite collectable now. For me it's even in my top 10 considering it was the first 3D steelbook to be released in the UK. Wrath hasn't even been released yet but many are commenting on it's favourable price tag which is a positive.

I just hope I am wrong and this price is a one off...

Hey junkie, I wasn't suggesting it isn't a higher price than normal, more that I didn't mind paying that price in this instance. I don't have a 3D tv etc but hope to in the future. Remember the price of Blu-rays when they first came out were through the roof compared to dvd, and dvd compared to video before that

Generally a retailer will have to price their stock based on an RRP (recommended retail price) which is set by the supplier and has a corresponding dealer price which the store buys at, though more recently retailers aren't allowed to list RRPs due to trading standards. Very few retailers make much money especially on new releases. In fact most probably lose money on them but will drive the price down to gain market share, thus seeing it as an investment or marketing tool. Therefore, if the supplier (in this instance Fox) sets the RRP high, then the retailer will pay a higher dealer price for it but the consumer will expect it to be the same retail price as every other release as they will just think 'new release = sub £20 like the last new release'.

I reckon Play have been very fair with their steelbook pricing in general and doubt this is the start of a trend for them. If we are going to complain about the prices then perhaps we should aim it more at the studios who control the pricing to start with. I would love every release to be cheaper but, personally, I don't have any complaints with what Play have done for my collection of late

I doubt it. This is a 2012 movie and they want to sell as many as they can. The limited editions from Play have mostly been re-releases havent they?

I'm pretty sure that all previous Play.com exclusives have been limited to 4,000 copies, I don't see why this would be any different. Before the waves in May and June, Play had only released new releases and they were limited. Think Star Trek, Predators, Scott Pilgrim, Chronicle, X-Men First Class, Pulp Fiction etc. none of which are available anymore. I have no doubt that this will be the same.

I am not digging the art for some reason.............

probably because I have not seen the film yet. :D

Anywho... unless theres a FS/BB release (and I pray there will be) then I will be down for this release.
