Sony America’s corporate communications director Patrick Seybold has revealed that PlayStation Portable sales in the U.S. increased by 300 percent during the three days following the release of PSPgo last Thursday.

In addition, Seybold also confirmed that the uptake of downloadable games via the PlayStation Store rose by 200 percent on the back of Sony’s latest handheld revision.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Seybold commented, "The launch of PSPgo has generated strong consumer interest in the overall PSP platform and the PlayStation Network's digital content offering.”

"With several blockbuster games launching digitally and on UMD in the coming weeks - from LittleBigPlanet to Assassin's Creed Bloodlines - we expect this momentum to continue and look forward to a strong holiday season for both the PSPgo and PSP-3000."

Sony Europe said Tuesday that PSP hardware sales rose by 120 percent in the region as a result of the launch of PSPgo on October 1.
