The £14.99 steelbook that is now worth as much as the premium release

Slips are a bit of a disappointment:(

Slip A will probably be the one I go for

Slip B matches the Kill Bill ones nicely but I have the one click for those so it's not like they'd be lined up on a shelf together so ultimately irrelevant

Lenti Slip would have been the winner if it were a full slip as it's iconic poster art

1/4 slip is probably the best tbh as it shows off the best part of the package the Steelbook itself

One Click box is just meh although does match the Reservoir Dogs one (which I passed on)

Hopefully Nova post in hand images before the PO goes live...

Wanted the lenticular but now I'm fixated on Jackson's hair (lack of) and Willis's odd image. Not sure I'd be happy. Don't like slip B and don't buy 1/4 slips so that leaves A which is just ok IMO. Don't care for reverse side of A. All that said, do love the movie. Wish the choices were better.

Am completely torn about the lenti.
Always go for Lenti’s personally, but I have the play.com steel already and am pretty disappointed with the chosen lenti image, oddly.

It just doesn’t scream ‘buy me!!’ like lenti’s usually do.
Actually makes me like the Reservoir Dogs lenti image more, by comparison.

Might leave it up to fate and try my luck direct... if am meant to have one it’ll be in stock waiting for me. If am not meant to have it, it’ll sell out before I have a chance.

The new brand of the cigarettes is Red Apple, a brand you will find a lot in Quentin Tarantino movies (obviously they smoke them in Pulp Fiction, too)
https://wiki.tarantino.info/index.php/Red_Apple_cigarettes
latest
Appreciate the info ... admittedly never came across Red Apple cigs on my travels ... probably not surprising as they are fakes and only to be found in Tarantino movies ...
This is the first time they appear - in the Tokyo airport scene when Uma Thurman walks by an giant advertisement for the brand (1994) ... later to appear in Four Rooms (1995), From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003), Planet Terror (2007), Inglourious Basterds (2009), Django Unchained (2012) and The Hateful Eight (2015).:-

How can they later appear in from dusk till dawn and four rooms after kill bill :wacky:

I find "Four Rooms" is so under appreciated.
I was so very happy that Nova offered an attractive edition to pick up...
As for PF, well, I certainly will get the Premium Edition, I found the film very intriguing and quite enjoyable. Not so much first viewing but assuredly 2nd and 3rd viewings...:)

uhm, so a print run of 500 for the 1/4 slip means that 400 are sold within the OC and that 100 remain for regular sales, right? I just checked @Aniv 's group buy quantity and apparently hes/you're allowed to sell 100 copies of the 1/4 slip.. does that mean that if hdn purchases 100 copies, there will be no sales on the novasite? i know thats quite unlikely but Im curious.. anyways, purchased a 1/4 slip, thanks @Aniv

edit: ok, no 1/4 slip in the OC.. nvm then ;P + I got all the numbers wrong initially lol top notch research

I'm quite new to Novamedia and premium steelbooks in general, just wondering what the purpose of the group buy for these are? Is it just to have a secured copy without having to get in early? How many does that leave for the lenticular on NM site on pre order say? Thanks in advance :))

There's a story regarding the steelbook front image maybe not universally known that may possibly be of interest to PULP FICTION fans. ...
The original poster - seen here and referred to as the "Lucky Strike Poster" - had a pack of Lucky Strike cigs just in front of Mia's right elbow leading to the makers of said ciggies threatened to take Miramax to court ... also the matter of the book cover "Harlots in her Heart" for which permission also hadn't been granted ... leading to changes to both items on later posters and the destruction of many of the originals with reportedly fewer than 50 surviving today.

Original posters:-

$1,000 - $2,000 for the original posters not unusual.

Steelbooks with this front image retain much of the original poster image ... with subtle differences ... the pulp fiction magazine under Mia's left hand is now a paperback book entitled "Pulp Fiction" (lol) ... with the "Harlots in her Heart" cover making its way onto the back of the Play.com steelbook (this type of magazine of course served as inspiration for QT's film) ...
The cigarette packet now bears a generic label instead of the classic brand "Lucky Strike" ... although unable to zoom in enough to read the revised generic print:-

Unfortunately only got one packet remaining of those soft pack Luckies imported from The States in the '90s.

Not forgetting some of the homage posters:-

This is really interesting, thanks for this. I went for the lenticular but the font seemed a little odd on it compared to what I'm used to seeing, but I thought I had seen it before. When i checked Google, the lenticular cover was used as the German poster I think, so I liked the idea that it was an official design. But it' really interesting seeing the subtle changes from one design to the next. For example, the movie logo changing but the "film by Quentin Tarantino" still using the old font, and even the 10c sticker using a different font on the Play steelbook. Almost as if they tried to recreate that themselves, so it's interesting to note that is the one thing missing from this version.

It's good seeing all the designs together and I think I prefer this version's composition with the cast at the left over the Play version with the cast at the top. I also like the fact that the lenticular is a variation of the Play steelbook rear.

I take it the dispute over the "Harlots" book cover was eventually resolved to allow it to be used on the rear of the Play steelbook?

Yes, at first sight some of it a bit confusing ... particularly the bit about the cigarettes and the magazine ...
It's true that the teaser poster was recalled by Miramax because someone forgot to secure the rights on the Lucky Strikes and Norman Bligh's "Harlot in Her Heart" pulp magazine ... and it's true that the widely distributed cinema posters were altered to reflect the double whammy ... "Pulp Fiction" magazine/softback book instead of "Harlot in Her Heart" ... generic cigarette pack - that does bear a resemblance to the famous Lucky Strike pack but upon closer inspection has a different red design - instead of the design classic Lucky Strike pack ... certainly doesn not look like a pack of Red Apple cigs though ...

Yes, presumably the Harlot in her Heart magazine cover on to the back of the Play.com steelbook some 18 years later was allowed (expiry of copyright etc.) ...

Teaser Poster (recalled)

Regarding the lenticular: yes, exactly as the German poster ... and as it should be.

Regarding the 10¢ label: sadly missing on this new steelbook due to the re-positioning of the cast names.

The best thing about this release is actually the steelbook itself. To simply put, the full slips have been underwhelming and looks like a "b" movie quality wise. The best one is easily the quarter slip which perfectly compliments the design of the steel...

Maybe so but for an extra $3 I'd rather have a Fullslip with 36p booklet to boot. If 1/4 slips were more reasonably priced in comparison to the other editions I may be more tempted especially in cases where the Steelbook clearly outshines the slips, etc. But the price they usually are it's difficult to justify imo.

to me its not about best value for money but best overall looks/quality.. sure you would get another slip and a booklet, but I would never touch the booklet, I dont like the slip and the steelbook itself looks nicer with the 1/4 than just by itself

I understand your point :) Luckily for me I like Type A and that will be the edition I buy. If I absolutely didn't like any of the slips and wanted just the Steelbook, sure, I would get the 1/4 and save 3 bucks ;)

Representing one of the most iconic scenes from the film ... “We should be ******* dead man. This was divine intervention. God came down from heaven and stopped these motherfucking bullets. What happened here was a ******* miracle -- and I want you to ******* acknowledge it.”
Seen on posters and promos ... and even given a Banksy style makeover:-

Final word on the hairstyle ...
Originally planned as an "afro" but later decided by Jackson and Tarantino on a jheri curl (noun: Jheri curl - a black male hairstyle in which the hair is styled into tight ringlets with a glossy finish
Origin - from the nickname of Robert William "Jheri" Redding (1907–98), the American developer of the haircare product used to create the style) + long sideburns, and a fu manchu mustache . . . and who can forget the couch scene from COMING TO AMERICA ...
