Namco wants to know which PSone games you want to see on PSN

Namco Bandai has revealed it is taking suggestions from fans in regards to what classic PlayStation games they’d like to see the company re-release on Sony’s PlayStation Network service.

Echoing Square’s tactics, Namco is utilizing Internet phenomenon Twitter as a launch base for feedback, encouraging gamers to post their suggestions simply by replying to the Tweet.

Perhaps now is a good time to pop over to Namco’s Twitter and post your suggestions?

yah it works. you get a code at the first site, then you go to the MOH site, sign in to your EA account, type the first code in and then they give you a real code to download on PSN. you gotta pick the PS3 version and your region too.

Square not sure where to take Final Fantasy next

Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has admitted in an interview with Gamasutra that it would be “difficult to determine” where the company could take the Final Fantasy series next following FFXIII’s launch earlier this year.

Specifically, Wada touched on the subject of whether or not the venerable series should become a ‘new type of game’, noting that although XIII sold well, the reception among fans was something of a mixed bag.

“I think this is a product that was able to meet the expectations for those who know Final Fantasy,” said Wada. “There are all kinds of games around in the market today. Should Final Fantasy become a new type of the game or should Final Fantasy not become a new type of game?

“The customers have different opinions. It’s very difficult to determine which way it should go.”

“Looking at the numbers alone,” Wada continued, “it is pretty good, because we were able to release the latest Final Fantasy in all three markets of Japan, United States, and Europe in a very short period of time, and we were able to reach 5 million units rapidly — and I think this product will grow further.”

“But when it comes to the customers’ reaction to the quality of the game”, he said, “some value it highly and some are not very happy with it.”

Abe hints at Oddworld announcement this week

Oddworld poster boy Abe Mudokon has hinted on Twitter that an announcement of some kind concerning the franchise will be made within the next 48 hours or so.

The Rapture Farms worker has been making frequent Tweets since the beginning of this month, and while most of it has been fairly inconsequential, Abe recently Tweeted the rather ominous post of, “In less than 48hrs, the truth will start to come out.... Sssssssssh"

A quick look at the official Oddworld site confirms that a new website is in the works -- perhaps Abe's Tweets pertain to the launch of a new homepage for an upcoming Oddworld project? Maybe HD revamps of the original Oddworld games? We live in hope.

Ready at Dawn lets go of 13 staff members

Developer Ready at Dawn has announced it has had to lay off approximately 13 members of staff as a result of an overlap between projects.

Posting on the company’s official website, an unsigned statement reads: "Most days we feel privileged to do what we do. Some days not so much. Today just plain sucks."

"We've spent the majority of our time at RAD hiring the best and most talented people to join our team. Today, we had to let go of 13 of these people because we simply couldn't keep them on board while one project finishes and another ramps up. Unfortunately, these are the woes of being independent...
"It sucks. There are no other words for it."

The firm wished the former employees the best of luck, though neglected to issue any further updates on the situation. PSP owners should be familiar with Ready at Dawn, who have been responsible for developing a number of major titles for Sony’s slab, including Daxter and God of War: Chains of Olympus.

Confirmed! Oddworld games coming to PS3!!

Putting recent internet rumours to rest, Gravity Crash creators Just Add Water have confirmed that they’re officially working on Oddworld games. “It’s with a huge amount of pride that we can announce that for the past 12 months we have been working extremely closely with the fantastic people at Oddworld Inhabitants,” says the press release.

The details are still secret just now, though. “Whilst we cannot go into specifics right now,” continues the bulletin, “we can tell you that over the coming weeks and months we will be announcing these exciting projects starring all of your favourite Oddworld characters.”

“To work with the team at Oddworld has been amazing; being able to tap the minds of Lorne Lanning, Sherry McKenna and others has been fantastic,” said Just Add Water’s Managing Director Stewart Gilray.

“It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this,” Gilray continued. “We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us.”

NPD June 2010 numbers are in - PS3 shifts 304k

The NPD Group has lifted the lid on official U.S. hardware figures for the month of June 2010, revealing that Sony’s PlayStation 3 has managed to shift just north of 300k units for the period.

DS took the lion’s share of overall sales once again, selling 510.7k units, while Xbox 360 managed to muscle in on second place with 451.7k (no doubt thanks to the new 250GB model), beating the Wii, which moved 422.5k.

Sony’s black behemoth followed up with 304.8k, with PSP coming in last with 121k units sold. Check out the full numbers below.

1. DS -510.7K
2. Xbox 360 – 451.7K
3. Wii – 422.5K
4. PS3 – 304.8K
5. PSP 121.0K

Year-on-year sales for the month were down by a total of 6 percent, however, with the NPD attributing the decline to lack of hardware and software sales on the portable gaming front. On the flip side, all consoles generated an increase in unit sales compared to the previous month.

Lifetime-to-date U.S. hardware figures for all platforms are as follows:

1. DS – 41,798,158
2. Wii – 29,540,081
3. 360 – 20,555,886
4. PSP – 17,436,836
5. PS3 – 12,719,696

Sony responds to June 2010 NPD figures

Sony America has issued its response to June’s NPD hardware figures, highlighting the eleventh consecutive month of year-on-year growth for the PlayStation 3.

The company’s flagship console has seen unit sales increase 42 percent since January, with year-on-year sales for the month of June up by a whopping 85 percent. Furthermore, software sales were up 42 percent since the beginning of the year, with year-on-year sales for June up 17 percent.

“Video games are fueling new innovation for the entire consumer entertainment category and today’s numbers are a testament to the big impact we’ll play this holiday,” commented SCEA’s Patrick Seybold.

“With a healthy flow of PS3s back in the channel, and eleven months of PS3’s consecutive growth behind us, we’re confident the PS3 will become the main entertainment hub for many new consumers this year and provide countless reasons to congregate in the living room.”

Elsewhere, the platform holder turned its attention to the future, observing that the latter half of 2010 will offer PS3 gamers “groundbreaking experiences in 3D and new motion control games with PlayStation Move” in addition to current content driving features such as Hulu Plus, MLB.TV, and Netflix.

Hideo Kojima developing new adventure title?

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is allegedly working on a new adventure title with 5pb boss Chiyomaru Shikura.

Details are sketchy, but Shikura seemingly confirmed the collaboration during an interview with 4gamer: “Kojima said that he wanted to make an adventure game," he said.

“We're still at the level of 'let's lock ourselves away in the mountains somewhere and work on the plot,' so the specifics haven't been finalized."

Sadly that’s about all 4gamer managed to squeeze out of Shikura, who refused to be drawn in to commenting on whether or not the game might be based in the science fiction genre on account of Kojima’s involvement.

Interestingly, it wasn’t too long ago that we heard Kojima was considering making Metal Gear Solid 5. Hopefully we’ll find out what he’s up to soon enough. Stay tuned.

Debut 38 Studios game to feature incredible development staff

The debut game from 38 Studios, the company started in 2006 by Curt Schilling, will be set in a “mysterious and magical new fantasy world" created by author R. A. Salvatore. EA and 38 Studios announced today Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the debut release from the studio.

The game was originally codenamed Project Mercury. Now we know the game is an open-world role-player game set in a fantasy world called Amalur. In addition to Salvatore setting the premise for the fantasy world, artist and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane is set to work on the visuals.

EA says Reckoning will bring a new level of intense action combat to the RPG genre. Ken Rolston, lead designer of RPGs Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is set to lead development of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

The game is scheduled for release in fall 2011 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. More details are expected at Comic-Con this weekend. With a great staff working on the game, we are certainly excited to hear more about Reckoning.

“Reckoning is a great representation of how a team of incredibly talented and creative people with expertise in different areas can come together and complement each other so well,” said Jen MacLean, CEO of 38 Studios. “We are thrilled to be developing an open-world RPG under the leadership of one of the greatest RPG designers in the industry, with creative direction by one of the most iconic artists of our time, set in a rich universe imagined by one of the top fantasy genre authors in the world. We can’t wait to share the first details of this universe we have been so dedicated to building over the past few years.”

Capcom working with Namco on new 'vs' title?

U.S. publication GameInformer has caught word that Capcom and Namco are both working on brand new title in the ‘vs’ franchise.

Sources close to the magazine have revealed that the games – originally teased by Katsuhiro Harada and Yoshinori Ono at Evo 2010 and thought to be a single project – will in fact be none other than Capcom vs Namco and Namco vs Capcom.

Apparently, Capcom will be handling the former game’s development and will make use of the Street Fighter IV engine, while Namco will be taking charge of the latter, which will utilize the Tekken 6 engine. Capcom's Ono-san had previously been busy Tweeting about his next project and mentioned he had prepared a trailer for Comic-Con on July 24.
