Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have announced that they are hosting a We are PlayStation photography competition that has now launched in Europe. Electronic Theatre ImageThe team?s jubilation at getting a BUZZ! question right; the laughter of a room full of SingStar fans; the entertaining journeys playing your PlayStation Portable! They?re all classic PlayStation moments that you?ve seen or experienced hundreds of times - but can you capture them in a photo? If you can, your name could be in the hat to win some great prizes. There?s also the possibility of a serious cash prize, the possibility of the images being used in future PlayStation campaigns as well as a new Sony D-SLR a350 digital camera and lens. Get snapping and upload your photos by the 16th March 2009 for a chance to win.

The rules are simple ? capture the perfect image of you, your friends or your family enjoying a PlayStation moment with your PLAYSTATION3, PlayStation2 or PlayStation Portable and upload it to www.weareplaystation.com. There are different categories your photos could enter: Caught in the Moment, Unexpected Places, PlayStation Parties, True Love and Endless Play. A panel of guest judges will assess top user-rated snaps on their merits and work out which photographer deserves the top prize of 1000 euros and a Sony D-SLR a350 camera. Ten runners up will receive cash prizes of 100 euros each, while the next best 100 entries will get their hands on a top PlayStation game or vouchers for the PlayStation Store. All entries have the chance of being used in a future PlayStation marketing campaign.

Of course, PlayStation is all about its community ? and that?s why we?re asking you to judge the first round of the competition. PlayStation fans can visit the website and decide which shots will be put before the judges by rating each photo with a score from one to five. Also, every time you Electronic Theatre Imageenter the site, you can give your favourite image a secret ?Super Vote? which will be used to determine the finalists in case several entries generate the same overall rating. The images with the highest average score and, in the event of a tie, with the highest number of ?Super Votes? will go before the judging panel ? so it pays to get everyone you know onto the site and voting.

With so many great moments for so many different PlayStation communities, this is the chance not only to show off your natural eye for a photograph, but also to show the world just how much fun you have with your friends ? and a PLAYSTATION3, PlayStation2 or PlayStation Portable. Visit www.weareplaystation.com for competition terms and conditions and get snapping!

Jeff Rubensteins addresses changing PSN ID on Playstation Blog

Jeff do you think we’ll ever see Sony US give us the ability to change our PSN ID’s like Japan? i mean seriously look at my ID name.. i hate it lol

Jeff Rubenstein | August 8th, 2010 at 1:30 pm

It’s an idea that’s been brought up multiple times, and it’s something I’d like to see as well. I don’t think there are any current plans to enact this, however. I’ll bring it up again, though.

PS3 X-Dream Gyroxus motion chair Coming to the UK

gyroxus-2010-08-09-450.jpg

via engadget

Leaning in your chair while gaming? It's a natural thing -- we all do it. However, it's rare that the chair helps, doing its part to increase the thrill factor by tipping you even closer to the laminate flooring.

That's exactly what the X-Dream Gyroxus Gaming Chair offers, motion gaming in a somewhat portable package rather more friendly for the living room than some alternatives we've seen. However, it's also rather more limited, working with the PS3, courtesy of custom controllers, but having no room for a wheel and pedals, so Gran Turismo junkies will have to choose between this and their G27. Then there's the cost: a rather steep £399.95. If that doesn't sound bad, consider that this chair has been available to rumble American behinds for over two years now and is currently selling for $250 -- well less than half what UK gamers are being asked to pay. Worth the premium?

Insomniac Games tease upcoming game reveal

It would seem that acclaimed creators of both the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series, Insomniac Games, are due to unveil their latest venture incredibly soon, if a comment from the studio is any indication.

Having teased that they've finalised all assets (key art, a trailer and screens) for their game reveal, the rumour mill will be grinding in full swing that they are set to unleash the identity of their current project next week at the Gamescom event in Cologne.

Writing on popular social media site Twitter, Insomniac commented on their official account, "Back in the office and just saw the final key art, trailer, and screens for our game reveal! Sooo exciting! Can't wait to show you!"

It was at the end of May that Insomniac revealed that it was to produce a multi-platform title through the EA Partners programme. Whether it is that title set to be revealed, or one that remains exclusive to Sony, is unknown.

I'd love for it to be REsistance 3. But, they make great stuff so it'll probably be pretty good even if it's something else.

Sony needs to snatch these guys up and keep them for themselves.

Video games industry in great health, unlike the rest of the US economy...

Interested in dosing up your video game knowledge with a shot of macroeconomic data? Of course you are. The US Entertainment Software Association has delivered its 2010 health report for entertaining software and things are looking rosy. While the US economy was enjoying a steady 2.8 percent annual growth between 2005 and 2008, video game revenues were expanding by 16.7 percent a year. Factoring in the economically arid 2009 chops total US economic growth in half down to 1.4 percent, but gaming again shows its resiliency by taking a smaller dip down to 10.6 percent. That'll be welcome news to the more than 120,000 people whose employment depends on this burgeoning industry, as will the fact that the average annual compensation in the sector is just under $90,000. Good work, if you can get it.

Kojima teases 'big announcement' for this weekend

Hideo Kojima has revealed on Twitter that he’s planning a big pre-Tokyo Game Show announcement for this weekend.

Those of you hoping that the Metal Gear creator will finally unwrap the first details on the next Zone of the Enders title will be in for a disappointment, however, since he confirmed the announcement won’t be related to ZOE 3.

"ZOE3 and so forth -- it's not that big an announcement. However, I think you will be happy," he said.

The Kojima Productions boss has been linked to a string of projects over the past few months, including his infamous “taboo” title and a collaborative effort with Chiyomaru Shikura.

160GB PS3 available in NA

According to GameStop, a new 160GB PS3 model is now available for anyone who wishes to purchase a PlayStation 3. The current MSRP of the 160GB is at $299.99, similar to the 120GB. It was first rumored that it’s coming in North America and now, GameStop confirmed with its listing on the website.

With GamesCom starting tomorrow, a lot of information have been leaking out today. The 160GB PS3 model was first available in Japan and now, it is now available in North America. Could this mean that the 120GB is going to be phased out?

More Gamescom information will be revealed this week. Check your local Gamestop for more information on the 160GB model.

Sony phasing out 120GB and 250GB PS3 SKUs, the latter now going for $299 at Fry's

ps3-250gb-frys.jpg

From a supply chain management standpoint, this all makes sense -- why have four separate PS3 SKUs with various HDD sizes when just a pair will do? After announcing last week that a 160GB and 320GB PS3 Slim would be making landfall in the US and Europe, it seems as if Sony has decided to phase out the existing 120GB and 250GB flavors. There's no definitive word on when production on those will stop (we're surmising that the stop order has already been placed), but it looks as if some retailers are already starting up fire sales on the now-old models. For those curious, that's a Fry's installation pictured above, which is selling their leftover 250GB units for just $299, or the same price as the incoming 160GB unit.
