EA Cancels Its Spielberg Project

Putting an end to protracted speculations regarding the status of its latest Steven Spielberg project, EA has finally confirmed that the collaboration has been scrapped indefinitely, although the firm plans to maintain a close relationship with the director.

In response to a question from Joystiq, ex-EA developer Jake Kazdal spoke about the cancelled project on podcast 8-4 Play, having since left EA to form Haunted Temple studios. Kazdal hinted that the cancellation could have been the result of disagreements and internal bickering at EA.

"I don't know exactly what was the thing that made it fall apart. I'm sure anybody you ask is gonna tell you something a little bit different, but it didn't end up ever taking off," said Kazdal. "There was some rival game stuff that may or may not have come out of EA that was basically the same thing minus some of the stuff we were doing. There was just a lot of politics."

Focused upon capturing hyper-realistic facial animation and graphics, the cancelled Spielberg project was supposed to be part of a four game deal agreed in 2005. The game had been kept firmly under wraps for years, with only a few rumours - which were quickly denied by EA - able to escape the shroud of secrecy surrounding the long-gestating title. To date, Spielberg's only games for EA have been Boom Blox and its sequel on Nintendo Wii. What will happen to future Spielberg projects with EA is uncertain.

The Surround Sound System utilizes cutting-edge technologies, including Sony’s S-Force PRO Front Surround Sound that creates the equivalent of a home theater system, bringing to life in-game sounds not normally audible with conventional acoustic systems. Bringing in SCE’s expertise in both entertainment and technology acquired from developing games, four sound fields and two sound modes have been designed with the help of our expert game sound designers. This is really good for all the FPS's that release these days too. So many of them always look REALLY good and they always carry quite a bit of hype behind them. Throwing down $2-$4 bones for a couple days is perfect when wanting to make a good decision as to whether fork out $60.

Hey guys not sure if this is the right place:)

Per Engadget HD PS3 now disc free, 1080i streaming and 5.1 surround sound:

Rejoice, PS3 owners, your Netflix streaming experience just got vastly better than anything else on the market. Starting October 18 Netflix on the PS3 will no longer require a disc, and it'll stream some content with 1080i resolution and / or 5.1-channel surround audio, while everyone else will be stuck with a max of 720p stereo for the time being. Oh, and you'll get subtitles on some content as well. Netflix is partnering with Dolby on the audio side, and the surround format will be Dolby Digital Plus, which is the same codec used by the VUDU HDX streaming service -- we're guessing it'll require a tiny bit more bandwidth but the results should sound pretty great. Netflix says 5.1 will come to other platforms "over time," so we'll see how long that takes -- and given that the PS3 is now disc-free and the company's eschewed the SRS surround features baked into its Silverlight-based platform, we're guessing Microsoft's exclusivity period has now completely run its course. Video and PR after the break.

Dont F* with my Playstation!

http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles...iend-Off-Road-For-Taking-His-Playstation.html

Colleen Frable became so angry her unemployed boyfriend was spending the day playing video games, she decided to break his habit by taking the PlayStation with her to work Friday, she told Lehigh Township police.

Police said her live-in boyfriend, Darren Suchon, 42, became so enraged that he followed Frable's vehicle from their home near Palmerton, where he forced her vehicle off the road and rear-ended it while driving her 1996 gold Porsche sports car, all in an effort to get the video game system back.

Suchon now faces a host of charges, including simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, disorderly conduct, reckless driving and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was sent to Northampton County Prison under $25,000 bail.

In an interview with police after the chase, Suchon told officers he was mad his girlfriend took the PlayStation and "didn't know what the big deal was."

He told police, "I just wanted the game, I would never hurt her. I just wanted the game."

According to police:

Frable told police that just before 6 p.m. she argued with Suchon about playing video games all day.

She said that when she left for work, she took the PlayStation with her. She looked in her rearview mirror and saw Suchon driving her Porsche while waving his arms and yelling to get her to pull over.

Frable said Suchon nearly hit her car several times and forced her onto the shoulder of the road twice. When she stopped at a light, Suchon hit the rear end of her car.

Frable said she pulled into a parking lot and Suchon got out of her car. She said Suchon was yelling at her to give him the PlayStation and trying to force down her driver's-side window, which was open halfway. She said Suchon stopped and left when two men came out of a nearby business.

Frable drove to work and called 911. Police said Suchon told them Frable had taken the video system with her to work once before, and he didn't want her to do it again.

:hilarious: what a dumb@$$, it would have been much easier to just calm down and go for a walk or something. Now he is so deep in trouble just for a stupid game. I mean I am a gamer, but that dude is beyond the stage of simple addiction.
