Finally got around to seeing this. The premise intrigued me and the positive buzz around this amped my anticipation quite a bit. And it's well deserved, because this is one of the best movies of the year. Yes, Brie Larson is amazing and will be nominated for Best Actress for the Oscars. But Jacob Tremblay as Jack was incredible. Truly a great performance by a child actor and I typically loathe child actors, so this is high praise from me.

Great and engaging from start to finish with great performances across the board and a unique commentary of our world now. If you're interested in this movie, you'd be best served staying away from the trailer as it does spoiler key moments. But this is highly recommended and will make my Top 10 list of the year on the upper half.
Just watched this myself last night and couldn't agree more with everything you said. :thumbs:

Thankfully, I'd not really seen many people talking about it until the past day or so (they were basically just saying that it's an incredible film), nor had I seen the trailer... I didn't even read the synopsis lol. I think all that helped improve the enjoyment for me, as I went in completely blind and had no clue what the film was about. It certainly wasn't what I was expecting after seeing the poster right before I sat down to watch it - a great example of why you shouldn't judge a film by its poster.

I'm usually the same when it comes to kids in movies, especially nowadays, as they always seem to cast the most annoying little brats to play important roles. But they 100% made the right decision to cast Jacob Tremblay here... the guy deserves an Oscar for his performance, and I'm sure he'll go on to even greater things after this.

The film isn't in cinemas until January 15th here in the UK, but I know for a fact that it'll remain in my Top 10 of 2016... I already can't wait to rewatch it! :D

I didn’t see a specific movie thread for this, so I’ll include my thoughts here. Great performances from Redmayne and he will definitely get an Oscar nomination. A very subtle, gentle performances that excludes the inner turmoil of an identity struggle. While Redmayne will is great, it is also because Alicia Vikander was just as amazing. Her character’s struggle, pain and frustration are portrayed excellently. Beautifully shot movie with great set pieces and designs; which does not surprise me given Tom Hooper’s other films (Les Mis, King’s Speech).

My issue with the film is that the turn to Lilly was a bit too quick to me. It’s not as quick as Anakin’s turn to the Dark Side, but I definitely think they either rushed it, or they did not provide enough back story hints to show Lilly was truly always on the verge of coming out. The hints for the attraction for men was apparent, but Lilly’s struggle was not just to be with men, but be a real woman. And while Alicia’s performance was great, her character made very questionable decisions that seemed to go directly against what she wanted. I understand that conflict is huge part of this story, but there are better ways to depict this without making the characters seem naïve. The movie provides good insight into the struggles of the transpopulation but actual story could have used some work to make everything seem more organic and realistic. An overall good movie, with nominations for performances all but locked, but not quite good enough to rank with other Best Picture contenders

Not very good, but if you love stupid action movies, this is passable. More thoughts in the detailed movie thread.

An amazing experience, unbelievably nice to look at. Another visual masterpiece from Inarritu and definitely another Oscar for best cinematography. A bit long, but hell... that tension came out of nowhere (at least 3 or 4 times).

Always fun to watch Jackie Chan fight, although the film itself is from time to time quite ridiculous (not the way I loved in Jackie's old movies).

A film that I'm sure will remain in my Top 10 of 2016. Seriously, give that kid (Jacob Tremblay) an Oscar!

JURASSIC WORLD
Very entertaining, if nothing else. Some nice nods to the original in there, and I love how the film itself even admits that Jurassic Park is still king by letting a certain dino win over the other.

THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT
I couldn't help but feel that they could have gone further with this idea, but the fact that it was based on a true story obviously held them back from doing so. It would've been interesting to see the prisoners and guards switch roles after so long to stir things up even more.

CHAPPIE
This certainly has Neill Blomkamp written all over it, because one thing's for sure... he's picked his own unique style and stuck with it. Never have I cared about a robot as much as I did Chappie.

LOVE & MERCY
I've never been a big fan of Cusack, but this film alone made me question my dislike for him, so that just goes to show how much I enjoyed it. I may have also fallen in love with The Beach Boys album Pet Sounds after seeing the film.

THE REVENANT
With so many raw (in more ways than one... bison liver!?) and intense moments, and the breathtaking cinematography that looks as if it's been taken straight out of an episode of Planet Earth, the only thing I feel is missing is David Attenborough's commentary.

Sicario -:thumbs::thumbs:(n)
I thought this movie would be more awesome than it was but i was wrong.The Male leads were on point but Emily Blunt was weird and awkward in her role and felt like she didn't belong.Movie would have been way better without her IMO.

The Martian -:woot::woot::woot::woot:
Epic space movie with an epic cast.I loved Matt Damon in this movie;he was actually entertaining.Wish We had gotten more Chastain, though.

The secret Life Of Walter Mitty -:woot::woot::woot:
Decent movie with a small cast that get's it point across.Ben stiller was great in this role and played the character well.I would like to see him doing more serious stuff than just comedy.

1n-png.127234
- I'm trying to be nice and not compare to the source material. Even then it's a below average action flick. If I compared to the source, it would've gotten 0.5/5. Seriously (n). Agent 47 is known for his STEALTH! Not a gun-blazing idiot.

rating, good decent action but for such a long film it whizzes past pretty quickly. Would have loved to see more from Christoph Waltz as I felt he was just that little bit underdeveloped (hoping he reappears) and watching big Dave B as a pretty decent henchman.

Even better news, I'm now fully booked up for the 2016 Glasgow Frightfest which includes such delights as "SPL II: A Time for Consequences", "Martyrs" (the new reimagined version) and the WORLD PREMIERE of Stephen King's "Cell"
