I don't know what to say about this film. It's fine. It's a perfectly harmless and inoffensive film.
It's entertaining enough- it's as well written as the material demands of it- and it's entirely predictable.

Why this suddenly became such a big thing in Japan confounds me... it's like saying that James Cameron's Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time... my brain can't quantify it.

An interesting experiment- but overall, an unfocused film. The film attempts to combine the nuance and intrigue of a spy film, with the gritty- fast paced action seen from John Wick a-la Director David Leitch. While the action is good- such action set pieces are too few and far between to qualify the film as an action film- and the pacing of The Atomic Blonde does not lend itself to an action premise in the same ways that John Wick did. Likewise, the spy elements of the film were not nearly as engaging as the film like to think that they are... as the dialogue in the film feels more dull and dry than it does seem intriguing.

The overall product seems like a watered down spy film crossed with a slow (but well executed) action film. Had the film leaned in either action or espionage aspect- it would have been better- but the final product just seems so intensely mediocre.

Still- the film is dripping with 80's style. If you like that, there it is. If you think it's becoming somewhat overused in Hollywood, well... there it ALSO is.

Despite some fun scene-chewing from Matthew McConaughey- the film is incredibly bland.
Idris Elba is lacking his usual charisma- and the story feels so hollow and played out that it's just not enjoyable to watch.

The fact that the movie looks super cheap as well doesn't help. The movie strives to have the enjoyment and scale of something like The Avengers but feels more along the lines of Ben Affleck's Daredevil.

But there are some fun moments in the film that are SUPPOSED to be serious that end up being hilarious... so... that's fun, I guess.

Kong Skull Island 2016
Really enjoyed this one. Wasn't expecting too but it surprised me. Good fun popcorn movie and a nice few surprises along the way. The special effects were awesome and the Ape was amazing and we got to see it from the start. No crappy built up to it. That was nice. And I liked the ending. No trying to do anything clever. Made a nice change.

I'm probably one of a few who enjoyed this more than the anime... the original lost me a few times to be honest.
