Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition Content Coming to North America and Europe
Hi Everyone,

You can try to forget the fear but it will never go away…

Following the announcement of Resident Evil 5: The Alternative Edition by Capcom Japan at the 2009 Tokyo Game Show, Capcom’s North American and European community sites decided to post polls and determine how fans in the pan-western regions would like the new Resident Evil 5 content delivered to them. The surveys asked the Capcom community to state their preference- either a hard disc with the new content included or as downloadable content. Based on the results of the polls, Capcom is pleased to announce that new downloadable content will be available for Resident Evil 5 owners this spring via XBOX Live and PlayStation Network.

For more information on Resident Evil 5, please visit the official Capcom press center at ...

Thanks,
The Capcom PR Team

Capcom reveals Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition

Capcom has confirmed that its forthcoming Resident Evil 5 downloadable content will be receiving a physical release after all, under the moniker of RE5: Gold Edition.

Due out in North America and Europe in March 2010, Gold Edition throws in the original game, all existing downloadable content, fresh costumes, plus two new playable episodes and the Mercenaries Reunion mode, which features eight additional playable characters. Gold Edition will set you back USD $49.99.

Alternatively, Capcom will be unleashing the new content in downloadable form as previously announced, with the first, Lost in Nightmares & Costume Pack 1, arriving on February 18th for the PS3.

The next batch, which features an as-of-yet-untitled playable episode and Costume Pack 2, will arrive on March 4 for the PS3. No word yet as to whether or not the content will support the PS3’s wand as showcased at TGS (known in Japan as RE5: Alternative Edition), though we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any developments.

A lot of people - including us - are excited about the prospect of the Resident Evil franchise returning to its roots this coming March, as they head back to the mansion in the first of two add-on episodes, Lost in Nightmares.

Capcom recently released their latest trailer that looks at both episodes and our excitement has just been raised a notch. Not long left to wait now.

Lost in Nightmares will be available February 18th and Desperate Escapes will be available March 4th. If you're waiting for the disc version, the Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition will be available on March 9th in North America and March 12th in Europe.

New Resident Evil 5 mercenaries character revealed

Capcom has lifted the curtains on a new playable character to be featured in the ‘Mercenaries: Reunion’ mini-game in Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition.

The character in question is none other than sultry Tricell bigwig Excella Gionne, who works alongside blonde bad guy Albert Wesker in the main story. Judging by the screenshots released, her weapon of choice appears to be a modified handgun and also appears to wield a syringe in what we assume is part of a proximity attack.

Watch RE5: Gold Edition's Excella and Josh in action

Capcom has served up a fresh batch of Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition videos focusing on Mercenaries: Reunion newcomers Excella Gionne and Josh Stone.

Given the whole ‘Reunion’ subtitle for the kill ‘em all mini-game, we were rather hoping that old faces Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers would show up to join existing playable characters Wesker, Chris and Jill to complete the original S.T.A.R.S line-up, but alas this seems not to be the case.

Anyway, for those of you who are excited over the prospect of killing infected villagers in a white dress or just love beating enemies to a bloody pulp, check out the footage below.

The final two characters of Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition for both PlayStation 3 were finally revealed. Joining the character lineup of the Mercenaries Reunion Mode, are Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers. Both characters appeared in the original Resident Evil as part of the S.T.A.R.S team sent to investigate the Spencer Mansion in Raccoon Forest. Burton assisted Jill Valentine, while Chambers partnered with Chris Redfield.

Let’s take a look on the screenshots of Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers in action. Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition is slated to come out next month in both North America and Japan.

"Deperate Escape" DLC for Resident Evil 5 available tomorrow

The next DLC episode for Resident Evil 5, Desperate Escape, is heading to the PlayStation Network tomorrow. This DLC pairs Jill Valentine and Josh Stone in a new chapter to the RE5 story. The pair will work together to escape the Tricell facility under the darkness of night. You’ll fight unrelenting waves of enemies in heart pumping action, as Jill and Josh race to assist Chris and Sheva in their final bout with Albert Wesker.

You can also pick up new costumes for use in the RE5 campaign. Costumes will be visible during gameplay and cut scenes. Costume Pack 2 will include Chris Redfield’s “Heavy Metal” costume and Sheva Alomar in her new “Business” outfit.

If you pick up both DLC packs, you will get the remaining four of eight characters for The Mercenaries Reunion. Desperate Escape will include Rebecca Chambers and Josh Stone; while Costume pack 2 includes Chris and Sheva’s new costumes for the main storyline, and they will also be playable characters in The Mercenaries Reunion. All characters will have their own unique weapon load outs.

But don’t forget that Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition will be available on March 9 for $49.99 USD, and it will include the original game plus all DLC content on a single Blu-ray disc.

You know those Resident Evil 5 episodes and two costume packs that have just launched on the PlayStation Store? Well they've been bundled together into one big bundle with a discounted price slapped on it.

From today, you can now get your gnarled zombie hands on Lost in Nightmares, Desperate Escape and Costume Packs 1 and 2 (featuring four character costumes) in one downloadable shot for €11.25/£10.49 where the indivdual packs would have previously set you back rather more than that.

Resident Evil Move patch dated and detailed

A patch for Resident Evil 5 will add support for the PlayStation Move. Capcom has confirmed that the patch will be available on Sept. 19.

It should be noted, again, that the patch will only work for the Gold Edition of the game. Capcom has said there are technical issues preventing the addition of Move to the standard version of the game.

The problem is some countries never got the Gold Edition. Capcom will release a Move Edition of the game for the countries without the Gold Edition. So, if you own the standard version of Resident Evil 5 and you want to try it with Move support, looks like you’ll have to drop your version off in the used game section of your local shop and buy the Gold Edition.

Which I believe translates into.. We want to screw you, our loyal customers, for more money because we're corporate pigs.
