Additional info from Noodles

Just been chatting to Elliot Cardona (the guy who designed the artwork) and he confirmed that this has "a matte finish with a Pantone red and embossed lettering." Shame it's not gloss, but I can live with it being matte because I like the artwork so much. Can't wait for this one!

Just received my eBay purchased copy and it has a few small scratches through to the steel on the back.

The steelbook was in its j card and packed well. There is no damage to the box or jcard so can only assume that it occurred prior to packing.

Not normally so pernickety but given its price a bit annoyed.

Just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation and the best way to resolve?

If this post is not suitable here apologies!

That sucks!
I'm not sure what you can do, it's always a gamble removing the packaging.
That's why I prefer to buy unsealed steelbooks if it's from ebay, and sealed from a retailer.

Sorry maybe wasn't very clear. It was an unsealed copy described as in perfect condition with no dings or marks.

That's happened to the best of us. Unfortunately you sometimes have to take the rough with the smooth.
If it was sealed when you bought it then there is no way of knowing whats under the J card unless its a MASSIVE dent then you should feel it. If you had bought it from a retailer then you would be able to send it back, but seeing as you bought it from e-bay then you may just have to take it on the chin. Unless you file a complaint via paypal your item isn't as described but the chances are the item was exactly as described as I said before you never know whats lurking behind a J card.

Oh, then this is shouldn't be too difficult to resolve.
Just raise a case with ebay, they should side with you as they tend to favour a buyer more.

Is partial refunding an option or is it better to steer clear of this as it wouldn't be directly through eBay?

Gone totally off topic there but appreciate all the advice.

thinking outside the box why not contact the seller 1st before opening a claim -

Always makes me  when people bypass me for ebay if I sell something

Correct. Always contact the seller first which is the right thing to do but what will the seller do if the scratches were on the back. Sometimes if you have a big dent on the back, you can detect it by pressing the steel but scratches, it is impossible to detect.

If you get no joy with the seller directly
file an "item not as described" claim and ebay will get you refunded straight away.
Buyers have more rights these days and as it happens sellers can't even leave bad feedback on a buyer either so you should have no problems there.

Definitely right and have already done so. The person has impeccable feedback and I am more than willing to put this down to an oversight. Emailing him photos now to see what arrangement we can come to.

The scratches are small (located two more within the black detailing on the rear) but obvious enough to have been noticed if checked prior to packing.

As it was region B only and (in my opinion) a boring looking steelbook I passed on this. I had a momentary regret when it sold out. But now Italy have a great looking Rush steelbook I'm happy I didn't buy this. I'll put a region A disc in mine and sell off the B.
