and 50% of those hating comments are from spoiled kids who don't have any basis to judge an interesting (or a wrong) "only on paper" artwork on their own (lack of thought suggestions is the proof) but demand to decide everything.
People who don't know anything about stupid clients (Lionsgate?) requests and choices or about the bloody approval steps. I'm pretty sure lot of guys here didn't even know that was an original portrait from Frank Miller's comic.

I'm not crazy about it, but it's surely something different and with the right improvements, the revealed back and a good finish this will be nice at the end.
Probably I won't buy it, but i always prefer suggesting and solving "problems" than crying&bitching ;)

and yet.... it's still ugly as hell

:ass::ass::dunno:Every frickin time a director or actor has input into choice of steelbook art we end up with a bloody disaster, (eg machete kills, only god forgives etc. )Proves that directors should stick to directing as they seem to know jack about steelbook design! !!!!!!!!!

Do you actually think though they spend time looking through designs, I just think the people who are making/selling them put that on the front when they are doing a steelbook which design has been picked not because of the good design but how much money they'll save on printing.

Take Only God Forgives for example, there were some fantastic artworks, especially the bright neon pink ones, very artistic and matched the style of the film perfectly but in the end we get a very dull steelbook, with faint colours and a one with hardly any art on it. It's obvious the brighter, more colourful ones were going to cost more to print so they went with the cheapest option. I just found it funny how the winning design was a re-designed artwork the guy did for ANOTHER competition (or in his spare time, not sure) for a poster of the film.

It's like they expect negative reactions to the steelbook so they do the whole "Approved by the director" talk for it.

To be fair, they don't even know a steelbook is in the works. He simply authorized the art as it is recycled art from a comic book. That is why it is labled as director approved art in the OP. In other words its very little meaning at all to this steel.

Easy way to find out, tweet Robert. He replies to fans comments all the time.

I could but then again this is to sell a film he's made, the quicker these things sell then a little bit of money goes in his pocket I'm assuming so I doubt he would say something like...

"No I didn't spend ages looking through designs I just picked the one they suggested so it would bring in a better profit for them/us"

He'll most likely just tell us what we want to hear

forgive me if this has been answered already but do we know if this release will contain both discs or just one like the bestbuy edition? I know the description on zavvi says 1 but we obviously can't go by that info all the time...

thanks

You're in the wrong hobby if you dont care how the "case" looks

Nope, just think people are going a tad overboard, someone said something like this make him want to get rid of his entire collection??? Overreacting?? I have already said I like it and prefer it to the one i got from amazon Canada, but that maybe because I'm more of a comic lover than I steelbook lover, and I understand people have differing tastes, so all the anger I am finding directed at this steelbook I just find a wee bit strange.

I think it's a little naive to think that a director would sit and look through designs for any kind of promotional artwork, but i'm sure the studio does require approval sometimes even if it just a formality.

As for why it is used, I guess it is a bit of a gimmick. I don't know about the whole saving money on printing argument though. How much can really be saved by using black and white artwork instead of regular art with colour? In another thread it was stated that Scanavo charge €2 per Steelbook manufactured, so the difference in cost must be very small if anything at all.

My god, you'd think somebody had shot the pope, get a grip, it's only a case that holds a film

If it's ONLY a case that holds a film then we would all just get a standard DVD/Blu Ray copy.

A main feature for Steelbooks is their unique appearance, which comes down to the artwork. If it's a great film but has crap artwork then why pay extra money for it when you can get the standard version cheaper in stores.

Dont forget FDTD. Salma had to Ok that one and that turned out great

Maybe it's less problematic for them to produce, just like matte steels are less of a problem.

We're not 100% sure yet. Hopefully one of the admins (we're looking at you DB :naughty:) can find out for us before release.

The crop is terrible and the image is too big..if they cropped it right and reduced the size and added a title to the front, it could be the greatest art of the year; but its really bad in the form it is in
