Word of caution from an UK HDN Member about HMV (thanks VRob98)

HMV now in administration said:
People should just be aware of 2 things:
1) If you receive a damaged or faulty copy from now on, you will not receive a replacement or refund
2) If they charge your card and are then unable to fulfil your order, you will not be refunded.

The way a company operates whilst under administration is quite different to how it operates normally, and certain consumer rights are suspended. If anything goes wrong you would have to apply to the administrator or claim against your credit card issuer.

I'd encourage everyone who has orders in with HMV to consider the above, as I'd hate to see anyone here lose their money in all of this.

Amazon is taking business away from everyone. Amazon is just to smart and they have very little overhead. They got the distribution centers all over the world in strategic locations. Best Buy in the U.S. is going to be out of business in the near future just like Circuit City.

well, its looking unlikely this will be released now (unless amazon pick it up)
i suppose the website may carry on, but thats not to say they will get any more exclusives. the deal may be hinged on high street stores for all we know.
worst possible start to the year.
2012 was an absolute shocker of a year for me and everyone close to me.
2013 has started out in the same way, my 2 favourite retailers going.
they might as well shut ebay and cex too, finish me off.
if theres no steelbooks, then i dont see much point going to work anymore.
we can get enough cash for free by being work-shy dole dossers to live comfortably.
if my hobbies are dissapearing why bother.

+1 Terrible start to 2013........

Absolutely tragic, although HMV have done well to last this long.

Have been in deep **** for a few years now.

Play.com going is the real killer.

The Sky's Falling in on UK steelbook collecting!

Am seriously contemplating packing in collecting UK steels sadly.

Amazon is taking business away from everyone. Amazon is just to smart and they have very little overhead.

They've killed everyone mate.

Even retailers are selling their stock on Amazon (e.g. Zavvi) and they are getting a cut in their fees. EEK!

if hmv go down too i think i'l just stick with ordering from amazon fr and amazon de, at least u know what ur getting with them and hopefully the uk will get back on its feet again.

well, looks like they have gone already.
they will continue to trade whilst they try to find a buyer...so fingers crossed they will stay in limbo long enough to release those steels.
id say theres no chance of any more exclusive steels after those ones though.

I really can't see the studio handing these over to a Company in administration without upfront payment first. More likely that HMV fulfill all current orders (and as no payments from customers have been taken, then pay direct for whatever is on the books) and the remainder being given over to other retailers, as with the Play exclusives recently.

Wow another shocker, first Play.com and now HMV, really sad news for all those staff that will be losing their jobs, 2013 is set off with a bad start, here we are talking about missing out on exclusive steels where people's life are at stake :ugh:

I've cancelled my pre-order for this (and Looper) as HMV will not be replacing or refunding any damaged steels.

This really needs to go in the opening post.

I would advise everyone to do the same otherwise you could be throwing away your hard earned money.

Best thing I can advise is to pick it up from store. I will pick up as many as I can and will help out others, especially overseas members.

That's awesome of you, I think I might need to stalk you then for awhile LOL hope you don't mind a stalker

I really was hoping this would be an easy steel to get, I have found UK steels very hard to come by and only have 5 because of this just lots of logistics for me and they have to be something I really want, just a lot more hassle then trying to get a US or Canadian steel (my sister lives in Canada). But it was totally worth me jumping through hoops for it since I am a huge Bond fan.

Hi Mr T.

can you shed any light as to where you got this drastic info from ??

I am sure that it needs posting on every HMV Thread from now on If there is any Merit in it ??

I did read about the profit . well lack of Profit !!

but nothing about replacement steelz EEK!

Without straying too far off topic, I think HMV will continue to trade online, it'll be the high street stores that'll close down

Well I just got an email from HMV advertising this steelbook saying "only at hmv". It also mentions their other exclusives (Taken 2, Resident Evil, Looper etc). :dunno:

Because releasing this title will be a source of revenue for the HMV Group, I would assume that administrator Deloitte will still allow it to be distributed and sold. Unless there are huge costs still to be incurred in bringing it to market, it makes more sense to release it, as they will likely sell every copy. It really depends on the current situation between HMV and the manufacturer though, i.e. whether the order has actually been produced yet and how much the manufacturer is owed.
