Word of caution from an UK HDN Member about HMV (thanks VRob98)

HMV now in administration said:
People should just be aware of 2 things:
1) If you receive a damaged or faulty copy from now on, you will not receive a replacement or refund
2) If they charge your card and are then unable to fulfil your order, you will not be refunded.

The way a company operates whilst under administration is quite different to how it operates normally, and certain consumer rights are suspended. If anything goes wrong you would have to apply to the administrator or claim against your credit card issuer.

I'd encourage everyone who has orders in with HMV to consider the above, as I'd hate to see anyone here lose their money in all of this.

Is it possible that Amazon UK sourced the US pressing? I know it doesn't say "import", but judging by the "NTSC" they just moght be.

The Blu-ray disc is 100% identical to the US version bit-by-bit (as per BDInfo) but looks like the replication facility included the NTSC DVDs by mistake instead of the PAL counterparts. IMO, Fox should have recalled the whole batch as this is a serious error but it never happened.

I just contacted them if this is the same version as they had before (since I received 1 copy with a blue line, I was wondering if I could replace that one now - they initially gave me a £2.27 refund on it) and they replied with the following:

Due to the huge demand for this item there is a fluctuation in the availability of this item. I've placed a new order for the same item and it'll be sent as soon as possible to the same address. I see that we have refunded you £2.27. As we have already requested the refund we are unable to recharge your cards hence, please feel the refund as our compliments.

When sending a replacement for an damaged item, we usually request that you return the original. However, as the cost of returning this parcel will be prohibitively expensive, please keep the original item with our compliments. Perhaps you'd like to donate it to a charity, if you feel it would be appropriate to do so. There'll be no additional charge for the replacement order.

So they just sent me another copy with no extra charge while allowing me to keep the previous one, which I had already gotten a 15% refund for. Thus it appears this is the same Skyfall-version as the version that was listed before.

Talking about some extraordinary service :scat:!

do you live in the UK they normally do this to people who live abroad

Ultimately they an almost infinite number of discs. It's just how and where the Steel is made, the BR and DVD are paired up and the slip put on. Fox have slipped up big time here, so imo this is going to be like some of those early UK Steels which have only just gone OOS.

well i just spoke to the chat guys at amazon i live in the UK and they just replaced mine should be with me by the 8th March and they dont want the fault one back

Maybe so but they cant show it as £14.99 and then charge you £17.99 on checkout.

Well they can and they have. The listing now shows £17.99 anyway, so there's nothing dodgy going on.

After providing them with a screenshot of the screen price and what i actually paid i got this email back from them just now:

"Hello,

Thank you for providing us with the order details.

I can confirm that there was a technical issue with our website and we will be happy to refund you the difference in cost.

As soon as your order is dispatched I will issue a refund for GPB 6.00 back on to your payment card.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Did I solve your problem?"

:)

The Amazon sites often use each other's data feeds. Could be nothing more than some error in the merge of data to create that catalog listing. Has someone checked their 'DVD' disc included to see if it's NTSC instead of Pal?

i just got an email saying to return the faulty one through a certain link so i dont get to keep faulty box she never mentioned it in chat but tbh its what i expected

I don't live in the UK, no. Still, Amazon has some warehouses all over Europe, including the Netherlands (where I live), which they use for returns. When I order something from Amazon.de and I want to return it, they want me to ship it to the Dutch warehouse at no cost.

This is exerpt from website as of posting time:

Format: Letterboxed, NTSC
Language: English
Subtitles For The Hearing Impaired: English
Audio Description: English
Region: Region B/2

Hey surf-yeah saw that. It's why I mentioned that the title may just be wrong. Or have people actually received NTSC discs when ordering this?

Both of mine have NTSC 2 on the slip but I haven't yet opened so cannot confirm actual discs.

As an aside it's interesting to see the comments on their "Customer Discussions" about it too. :)

Yeah, often Amazon merges info and reviews for different editions together, unfortunately (one of the major complaints about Amazon's review/rating system), so it's not even clear what edition people are commenting on. However, I saw one person saying that their disc says 'NTSC 2' which is either a labeling error, or there is an actual error somewhere else in the package. The DVD disc technically should be 'PAL' and Region 2, for the UK if it continues the usual pattern for releases. I won't be getting this at all, but hopefully someone who opens their Steelbooks can chime in, or we'll get more info from other sources as we move on.

I'm pretty sure the disc is NTSC and it was an error (or a cost saving measure) to include it in this package.
