it will be literally the only marvel blufans im missing but i cant bring myself to pay that much so will probaly never own it
I think your in a common position and that epitomises why it's worth so much.
That for many it's not just about owning one nice double lenticular, it's about completing the collection. And in the larger scheme of things, evidently many can justify that.

There will always be those with insane amounts of expendable income.

No steelbook is worth £717 to me

Not even a one click. People are idiots. That’s all there is to it

I’ve had so many bargains from eBay (ask @Noodles) and mostly due to patience and bidding on every version of that edition you want that comes available (providing its mint or sealed). Some have taken me a few years to get (and this isn’t just premiums) and there are still 3 or 4 still on my list to get which I’ve been trying for, for years now but adamant I’ll get lucky one day. But I refuse to pay stupid stupid stupid prices.

Obviously with this there is only 250 copies so I expect this to be higher than original asking price but I’ve only ever paid over the original retail/ asking price on 2 items. (Well technically 4 but 3 of those 4 are the zeta dark knight trilogy and were never priced individually so really the member who helped me, sold them at cost and it was just the shipping on top which was still a great price)

I don't think £717 is out of the realm of possibility for this release.

They've sold for a few hundred less before and the more it rises, the more it will continue to do so. 300 one day, 550 the next, 700 now? Maybe one day it'll be worth 2k and 700 will look cheap in retrospect.

It's sold for around 600 before, so perhaps every bidder was expecting to be paying more than that - it being the only on worldwide ebay at the same time as Far From Home is released, maybe something fishy has occurred but I wouldn't be surprised if the next authentic auction settles for around the same price if not more.

Do you not find it odd that there was one for £375 that noone has touched since it was listed and while dares copy was bidded to over £500?

It was then the £375 UK seller changed it to £495, then after seeing it end for over £700 has now matched that price.

Just seems pretty fake to me.

And the £600 listing you mention the seller left negative feedback for cancelling the sale lol.

ive paid hundreds of $$ for other blufans like doctor strange etc and even then i thought that was alot but this is just a whole other level man., $900 is just crazy talk

Most of the auctions were pretty straightforward what you expected. I expected wolf to reach a bit more and AOU to reach less. Drs Bs went for a little more than I thought but the Spidey auction is rediculous. The UK one sat for £375 and two watches which pretty much indicated zero interests. Even for being 4K more sought version.

Don’t tell me @matthewtheunicorn you own this and love to hype it up? Lol

I'm one of those who won a couple of listings from this guy (no, I didn't buy either this edition nor the nova ultron set, those prices are crazy)

I wrote him to send me the price without shipping and I have no answer either at the moment. I don't know what to do now. I do not want to pay the shipping costs, in the ads he promised to send for free, and he confirmed it to me by private message. I thought he'd just be busy, but reading all this, I'm worried now.

He’s not responding to my messages either and I’ve waiting for an invoice. The stuff that I paid for and has been refunded so forget about it. I wouldn’t pay for anything right now.

I agree for the most part Matthew. It's not so much that it happened, but how it happened.
One day, maybe soon, it will worth those 717 and more.

I agree with you, no steelbook to me either is worth that price, and i'll go one better... not even half of that price!

I don't think idiocy comes into it though, unless you are an absolute moron who panic buys or bids not knowing what they are doing.

The huge majority of people know exactly what they are doing in this game, both buyer and seller, and that's why between trades and money exchange
these steelbooks stay at the top of the game when it comes to price. They float around between eBay, forums and Facebook platforms and go back and forth between collectors.
People spend to their means and so where a £700 steelbook isn't affordable and certainly not worth the price tag to you and I, it may very well be to somebody else who earns double our wages for example.
In fact, that particular steelbook may indeed be affordable to you or I, but we are savvy enough to know in our own minds it's not realistic or worth it for the price presented to us when we have seen it for £45 once upon a time.

Within that you will have serious buyers who absolutely must have it for their collection and are happy to pay the prices because it's affordable to them, and then you will have those who buy to then sell on again
in hope of making even more on it knowing it's still floating around at those crazy prices and keeping it there.

Somebody somewhere once upon a time made up a secondary price on every sought after steelbook and for some reason it has stuck and then grew even more in price the more people want it.
Tie into that the limited print run and the continual social media hype over a release and it's "rare", " super rare", "grail", "OOP" tags and there is your outcome on the continued success of ebay sellers.

They're not idiots, quite the opposite, but yes I completely agree that as much as we love collecting, these are simply not worth these prices.

But that’s the point. People do panic buy. We’ve most likely all been there. Not just steels that is. I defo have (not in the sense of paying well over but the fear of selling out or extremely limited etc)

And yeah, value (of anything) is literally because someone once said “well I’ll pay X for that”. And snow ball effect comes into play.

Some people have more money than sense. So for someone who is loaded (and I’m talking minted) who can’t be arsed to wait etc will always pay a high price because it’s easy for them. I have a friend, he’s a millionaire. He don’t collect anything like this but I’ve seen the way he is with other things purely because it’s hassle free and we’ll because he can.

The way I see it, if he’s like it, then so are another people with a lot of dough.
Fair play to them and if I was minted I’d of bought the Blufans thor by now hahaha but I’d also be a bit of a idiot to pay that price regardless of my mulla situation.

But each to their own, everyone has a price. It makes the world go round

You need to get yours on eBay, subtle photos, and not mention the clipped wings on the rear!

It's out there now so if there are buyers on here who go looking they will want to inspect lol.

But... I don't expect you'll be selling anyway unless you can be smart enough to get rid of yours at a higher price than it would cost to buy one back without the clipped wings. Probably not worth the risk lol. :naughty:

Ah no I won’t be selling and it’s no biggie. Is what it is

If at any point I have to sell up I’d still probably keep all my marvel’s. WWA & WEAs.

Only marvel I ever sold was my FAC deadpool lenti slip. The one where he’s in front of the taxi. Was awful. Hated it.

Oh and I sold the U.K. guardians vol 1 wwa when I got the nova choice lenti. Didn’t need 2 steels of the same. Partly why I sold the fac deadpool too. Already had the steel with the first manta full slip

The question is : Has Spidey OAB surpassed red Thor 1 as the new Holy Grail of steelbook collecting?? Or does red Thor still hold the keys to the Throne.....

The question is : Has Spidey OAB surpassed red Thor 1 as the new Holy Grail of steelbook collecting?? Or does red Thor still hold the keys to the Throne.....

The original grail was a sealed mint John Rambo with stickers Amazon.de vs Iron Man FS sealed with stickers. They both had their good battles but have had their days now. A sealed one with stickers still around £400-£500 approx so not cheap at all but they aren’t the today’s grails.

Wolf FAC is the most expensive single steelbook right now.

Boxset is the Age of Ultron.

But not by much... Just by 171 pounds. That's only one extra bid on Spidey for it to reign supreme.

Wolf sold for £1500 on auction from a genuine seller. It’s hit nearly £1k many times. All you’ve done is seen one silly listing sell for £720 and there was one in the UK sat there for weeks with no interests...at £375...

Don’t take everything face value from one silly auction. Wolf selling at £888 is expected. BvS selling for £500 and Drs at £500 is expected but went to £680.
AASB selling for £650 with amaray was expected give or take.

AOU I expected around £700-£800 tops but not surprised it hit £1k. Their FS singles the Iron Man and CA can sell up to £300 each.

But this auction is just plain dumb at £720 and anyone paying for this needs to be shot. It’s probably two bidders jacking up the price deliberately to hype their own copies for sale. If it goes on auction many more times and it sold for similar price and appears to be legitimate with feedback left from genuine sellers then I guess I’m proved wrong!

Consistently is what you need to consider of what something is worth.

I have a slightly different viewpoint.
Most people who are wealthy enough to spend an astonishing 700£ on a steelbook won't actually spend that amount unless they inherited their money and didn't work for it.
People usually become wealthy by being sensible and prudent with their spending and hate spending over the odds. They know only too well the value of their hard earned cash.
Spending extravagant amounts usually indicates bad judgement and lack of self discipline and usually not a sign of huge disposable income. This is why people get into financial difficulty and debt.
